Just have to say I prefer Phish to Ween, but both are great bands. This version by some a-hole who threw Lil' Wayne's name on it is awful. I wouldnt say phish's version is better, it's slightly different as is most covers. It comes down to preference and opinion. And I know improvisation, I play jazz. Personally, If I want to hear improvisation I'll listen to Coltrane or Monk. But that's just me. Don't make it sound like the only facet of musicianship is improvisation. Song writing is equally if not more important.
