  • Went to Sawtelle for 12 years since I was seven and achieved my Shodan there.

Mr. and Mrs. Osugi and Maeda, Sensei Kenji, Sensei Cliff, and Sensei Eindhardt Arigatou Gosaimas!

  • I attended sawtelle Dojo in the early 80's now in washington state but will never forget you sensei Osugi. Thank you for everything...Morgan

  • Dear All Sensei:

I am happy to be a student of this school for a few classes... although the time I stayed was not long, I really appreciated the instruction of many different sensei(s). Perhaps no one remembers me? :)

    Really Nice Video!!

  • i just saw this...Derek Alef showed me, this is great nostalgia! Heather as a kid, and to see my head instructor during my time, Kawasaki sensei as well as Kenji Osugi and his father, really brought back good memories. I'm glad that Sawtelle judo is still alive and kicking!! Good job to the Osugi's and the Maeda's. Thank you.

To whom ever wants to know about Heather, should contact her brother Derek, he'll be happy to help you out.

  • I went to this dojo when in 1970 when I was 12years old. I had done Judo in S.F. for one year and loved it. I found this school by myself. No parents, just me taking the bus with my gi looking for some Judo. I was the only non Japanese there. They beat me mercilessly. Even the big guys and adults. It was not just a tough workout. They did not want a non Japanese doing Judo. Very racist. Looks like they have changed and I still do Judo. Maybe I will go back. Should be fun.
