I want to make YouTube song covers. Record vocals separately and then record guitar seperately, put it together and then add the audio track of the song I'm doing. Saw them live in San Diego 2 days after this show was filmed & Tom said that he had gotten the flu and his voice was messed up. He was a little bit off pitch at the show but when you love AVA, these little indiscretions are easily overlooked!

Tom didnt't mess up at all in my opinion. Yes, he did start the chorus wrong but he fell into the beat and saved the whole performance without blinking. The performance is good enough to be a live version either way.
I love the way how just after blink got back together, his voice was a bit shit but for AvA it was good. Now it has been 3 years, it has reversed. He seems better in blink and a little shakey in AvA.

@lindsayaes actually that's a common misconception on the records he uses a vocal effect called "chorus". its really common. Not autotune though. He uses it on the bridge of "up all night" too.

@lindsayaes I'm a producer myself, I do know about autotuning. There is a big difference in live performing and studio recording you know. When you are in the studio you have time to record your voice over and over again til you like it, just because it sounds good on the album, it's not autotuned. You have no idea what it is. Auto-tune dosent change his voice itself, it changes the key/tone, and can add fx, nothing more.

@kgregg97 thats where your wrong. It's not occasional. I have seen him live many times over the past 15 years and he has always been a crappy singer. I do admit his is an amazing songwriter, his voice is just no good live. He also always forgets his lyrics cuz he's so wasted.

@lindsayaes it's not "auto-tuned" when they record he can relax, even sit down, and take as many takes as he wants for every single line of the song. Live he gets one shot to get through the whole song. I agree, he could be way better, but you live with what you've got, right? Also he had cancer, so we're just lucky he's still here. @lindsayaes actually that's a common misconception on the records he uses a vocal effect called "chorus". its really common. Not autotune though. He uses it on the bridge of "up all night" too.

@lindsayaes I'm a producer myself, I do know about autotuning. There is a big difference in live performing and studio recording you know. When you are in the studio you have time to record your voice over and over again til you like it, just because it sounds good on the album, it's not autotuned. You have no idea what it is. Auto-tune dosent change his voice itself, it changes the key/tone, and can add fx, nothing more.

for everyone who thinks Tom messed up, you must not be a big AVA fan. When he starts the chorus at 2:18, he is supposed to sing it twice. Go ahead and listen to the song and you will see. Here, he only sings it once and covered nicely though. I don't know who messed up but the song has him singing it twice.
