1. Netscape is out of business.

2. You are right...nothing has changed because MS won the appeal after the republicans switched the judge and decided not to pursue further.

3. There is another anti-trust case going on in Europe from Opera against MS.

1st of all you need to define 'copy' vs 'clone'. A clone is an exact duplicate while a copy can deviate from the orginal and still be considered the same. Like cars for example..they are copies of the 1st car brought here. I have no doubts that M$ reverse engineer other software and changes teh code and adds more features. uh yeah, of course it was integrated into windows. the Web browser was a paradigm shift, a major change in the use of the internet. It was evolution that it became part of the OS. but even today, I know many people who use firefox and netscape, and never even know IE exists on their XP or Vista, so integration hasnt hurt firefox or netscape.

If you think it is ok to integrate applications into the OS, then I suggest MS should integrate all their products into the OS like Excel. The European Union just ruled against MS for their illegal anti-competive business practices (or as you put it "paradigm shift"). In this case, MS had bundled their media player into the os to kill off Real player. In our conversation, it was about integrating the browser to kill off Netscape. first of all . realplaer sucks!, they give you a free version and then harras you with popups for the next two years to BUY their paid version, they sneak install all this other stuff into your PC, AND they have a PROPRIETARY format, call rm files. proprietary sucks!

no, doc and xls can be opened by ANY word processor and spreadsheet program, its the evil PDF that requires a special program. (and you cant even cut and paste!) Media Player plays mpg, avi, shoutcast, mp3's and mp4's , ALL FOR FREE, no pestering you to BUY the upgrade every 7 days.

of course the EU did. Microsoft is an American company, and they want MONEY! winamp, realplayer, itunes, VLC and about 100 other media players can be installed on Windows, and once they take over the mp3 file association, you'll never see media player again! It's ridiculous!

I agree with everything you've said Tim...you can choose to use any other software that does whatever the progs builtin Windows. u dont have to use IE...or WMP...and firefox runs on linux so u dont evev have to use the OS.

microsoft didnt copy netscape! IE was out before nutscrape, and was licensed from mosaic. when web servers becoming popular, MS had to make a browser, so people could view them, AND they put a link to netscape on the win95/98 desktop! this way users had a choice

what are you talking about? Netscape was released Nov 14, 1994. IE was released August 1995. You are correct that there was a link to Netscape but what Ellison is talking about is the fact that IE was INTEGRATED into the windows.

Moreover it doesnt surprise me too that microsoft is good in introducing the failure products and then raisising money from their customer's pocket mercilessly. What Larry didn't mention is that Netscape invented Javascript. When Microsoft integrated IE into the OS, that was the end of Netscape and that hurts innovation.
