Well we used to play Pogs like this:

Pogs are stacked. another Pog is used to hit the top of the pile. The ones that fell upside down are claimed by the hitter.

We didn't use Pog arenas. Sometimes we just drew a circle on the ground using chalk for boundary.

All joking aside this really was and is a great game. If we look beyond the contemporary brands/ads printed on them this kind of game has existed for hundreds of years. According to Wikipedia a Japanese card game very similar to Pogs has been in existence since the 17th century. Maybe not quite the classic that tic tac toe or chess has become but close enough :)

Lol, I remember having like 4, 1 foot tubes full of pogs when I was 10. Nothing fancy, not to expensive to buy like games today. It was just something to play with, the raw essence of childhood, play time. Pogs were so unique compared to the Japanese monster card games that replaced them on the school playgrounds. Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh are alright in themselves but you rely on the game's sole producer to make the cards and when they quite supporting them, you're screwed. While Pogs were available about everywhere, even for free, and the designs were limitless. I wish they'd come back into mainstream gaming.
