@dominata808 hi,my r/t catfish feeds very well,i do find that he loves garden worms and small fish(if you can find them)you can feed prawns, hope this helps !!
Some pet stores call them upside down cats. They are a type of synodontis catfish, just upside down catfish is an easier name to remember, so pet stores use it more often.
To any dimwit who said they weren't upside down catfish they are. I have one that looks exactly the same just a bit larger and fatter. I also have a catfish like ur redtail there except he is very old 10 I think and he is not red tailed
@BrittanyPeckCanada -- Sorry but these are "Synodontis eupterus" - AKA Featherfin Squeakers. They are cousins of the "Synodontis nigriventris" AKA upside down catfish. They look alike but are quite different in size and behavior --- Be sure you have your ducks in a row before you start calling people dimwits. --- Try Google on both to see the difference. I've seen petshops mislabel them since they do look so similar and maybe they sold you a featherfin and called it upside down...
@pete3867 agree with what your saying dude, this was taken well over a year ago, since then the rt has been moved as hes about 2 1/2 ft long, the others are all well, liveing in a show take in london, this was just a hold tank,
thankyou for your reply , and sorry I jumped to a conclusion ....they are lovely fish if I had a tank big enough I would have some with my smaller syno nigriventus... in some books eupterus are listed as upside down cats , and really I think its a sort of umbrella term for both species , as like you say they do swim upside down , mine look like a smaller version of those ... how big do they get?
@pete3867 hi,the two cats i think are a breeding pair, they would grow to about 8/10 "at the mo they are moveing the bottom about alot,so hopefuly soon they might breed,if not there just messing the tank up , lol..good luke with yours, its a great hobby to have..
I have two upside down cats ... and they look nothing like those ..as someone said they are sino eupterus ... I think the real ones are called synodontis nigriventus....nice fish though , and they look very happy
hi,its hard to say if any thing is wrong,if the fish is swimming and eating ok,then it might be ok,i do know that some fish mostly cold water fish suffer from Swim Bladder Disease, but im pritty sure your fish has not got this, maybe worth feeding abit less, like once aweek,if she is pregnent good luck, let me know how you get along !!!!!!!
Yup - they're synodontis eupterus - the featherfin catfish. They are mislabelled as juveniles as they look similar to the synodontis nigriventis and swim in a similar fashion.
I have a featherfin syno myself - they're known for being far more aggressive than upside down catfish. But as you say, your redtail keeps them in check.
it will be a good size too start with but will grow to a large size within 1-2 years if fed right , good luck with your rtc ,they are great to keep !!!
How long did you have the Upside Down Catfish because i had one for like 6 years and it never got larger than like 2 and a half inches. I just figured something was wrong with it. And your Bala Sharks are peaceful. Mine was always so skidish and large that it would get scared and hurt itself on things
The Synodontis that is usually sold as an "Upside-down Catfish" is Synodontis nigriventris, which only grow to around 3". The Synodnotis in this video don't look like nigriventris. Your fish were fine.
these are no upside down catfish i seen 1 of these last week in the store and it was a type of synodontis,i was going to get it but had already purchased my 2 clown knifefish( which ive found out to be abino reticulated knifefish) and my tiger shovelnose
I have two of them. One about 5 inches and the other is about an inch long. My older one will sometimes rest in the upside down postion but it's straight upside down. He swims also on his back. They are neat too watch.
very nice bala shark i have to say...and magma oscar (its what i call them) i have 2 small catfish 1 goldfish 1 peacock eal and 1 tigerfish im about to get a bala shark but yea ^^
if your thinking about getting these great fish, the upside down catfish(BILL N BEN) are very bizzy and will use all of the tank, all the fish in this tank get on at the mo,but when the red tail(CLIVE)gets bigger he will be moved...
what do u feed a catfish when they get big?

yeah! I've got one too, he looks exactly the same as the fish with the round "nose"
mine is really big, 15 centimetres or something. I suppose that's normal...(I only got small fish around him, like tetra's and guppy's and so on)
ps. mine swims upside down almost all the time, he really deserves his name, hehe!

if your thinking about keeping redtail catfish you need to get rid of everyone else.
