  • Extreme like. Told buds years ago it was all bass/kick. Thanks.

  • hey can someone write what he said the pattern was, im having trouble understanding it

  • im learning it from you

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • Solid! I think you broke this down really well! There are several others on YouTube but I think you take on this classic is spot on!

  • Geat demo! I laugh and scoff at people saying that the intro sounds like mayhem on drums, I hear (as well as many other people), a superblown Hemi engine that's ready to tear appart 402 meters of tarmac , and also great intricate technical drumming. Koodos to you for breaking it down! Thanx!

  • when we have drummers making solos and intros out of this much pure genius in the world, why is it we continue to use drum machines for all the popular stuff? fuck what are they thinking up at those corporations, are they actually stupid or just born that way. Good drumming comes from someone taking the greatest years of their lives to LEARN this stuff, not just pre-recording five different beats and throwing it all together without ever actually doing the full thing themselves

  • I didn't knew that Ian Somerhalder could play drums! Cool vid!

  • The ploy-rhythm action is what makes this song so tricky visually and near-impossible and intimidating without the visual, like hearing it on record. Thank You for breaking it down and more importantly PLAYING. IT. SLOWLY. STEP. BY. STEP. Especially, the high tom accents.

  • well done, you made it look easy!!!

  • thanks for making this video now i can show my brother up in front of his girlfriend

  • A+, nice!

  • Whenever I hear that intro I remeber popcorn popping O_o

  • dude, that is freaking awesome. you're how old if I may ask? Best detail I've seen of this song.

  • sounds good, but it doesn't help me play it when you don't slow it down. and you said theres a variation at the beginning... what is the variation?

  • very excellent work!.... Alex Van Halen

  • Geezuz ! you made that seem way to easy ! Great stuff

  • You do It just like I Do

  • wow wicked explanation.. the intro always awe me!

  • the best break down I've ever seen for this song!

  • thanks that helps a lot!

  • hahaha for the past 30000 years I thought it was a kick pattern at the beginning, which is terrifying to think..... floor tom huh? Thanks for clearing that up. I feel better.

Not knocking an excellent tutorial, but maybe next time, could you duct tape those floor toms, or put a small book on them to kill the overtones? That would clear the overlaying drum ringing. Aside from that I give u a thumbs up good sir.

  • This song has baffled me for years. Nice!

    Thanks amillion!

  • the sound he makes when he's adjusting the camera.. LOL!!

  • badass dude sounded almost like alex van halen does

  • It's hard to tell the difference between the floor Tom and the bass drum. You can play it really well, but you explain it too fast.

  • Fantastic breakdown. I gave up on that intro a long time ago. :)

  • Very nice job. Enjoyed this.

  • you saved my life!

  • Great job bro. you should teach...

  • anyone notice that the pattern he showed at the beginning (RLR-L) is the bass drum pattern used for the beginning of the song Bleed by Meshuggah?

  • @Cryptotherium hell yeah it is dude. love that song

  • @Cryptotherium

when i was trying to cover this song i actually was trying to do the messhuggah double bass instead of hiting the floor tom, right now i feel stupid cus i told a lot of people that this drum solo was so fucking difficult and its so fucking easy, dude that happens to me becouse of trying to cover the song without watching a video lol

  • @Cryptotherium It's called a "herta". Just saying.

  • @Cryptotherium It's just a poly rhythm, only in bleed the drummer does them on the bass drums, which is SO hard!

  • @Cryptotherium It's called a herta my friend...

  • you rock dude!

  • dude i never seen a drum tutorial and when i clicked on it i didnt think it was going to be good but this is amazing!!!! great job this deseves a thumbs up!!!!!

  • great job,

  • Nice French grip man!

  • Gotta say it again. Props man, you taught me how to play it lol. Deffinately the best video ive seen of it anywhere on the web of the intro with instructions. Thanks again

  • amaizingggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u rok

  • Damn bro nice tutorial got the first part down after watching twice but you're nasty for sure man

  • Good intro cover it was almost perfect keep drumming

  • awesome.

  • Not sure how anyone can "thumbs down" this video....best tutorial for this song on YT by far.......well done!

  • Dude this is great, i just wish you had mics or something

  • Right on!!

  • ive been tryin for years to figure it out and here you do it like its nothin!!!!!! very glad i found your video!!!!!

  • Fuck'n A

  • do many people posts tutorials on the intro but this my friend is far the best it helped me out a lot!!!!!! keep it up ps i dont have a double kick do you think i can do it with one until i get the money?

  • @MrAwesomenss it'd be tough to do it without a double pedal, but not impossible. To do it, you're basically just gonna have to have a wicked fast foot. Good luck dude!

  • @MrAwesomenss or there is a technique to doing a doubl bass with one foot. look it up. it is pretty simple.

  • @MrAwesomenss just use 2 single pedals thats what i do

  • people are such jack asses this sounds really good for not having the same equipment that alex van halen used

  • MAN YOU ARE AWESOME. YOU ARE A GOOD DRUMMER I CAN SEE THAT YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT.

  • Great video. I found it very helpful.Thank you. The double bass sounds wicked on here. Kudos!!!

  • Wow dude, awesome work! The sound is a touch off, but the rhythm (aka, the important part, for all the haters) is fucking money.

  • I wonder if this bambiepumba guy has a secret life under all that mediocre drumming.

  • Great job! I would just suggest getting some moon gels for your top drum heads to killl some of that ring and your sound will be even better. Again, great job!

  • Hey... I use those drumsticks! Epic Instruct-o-intro thanks!

  • fucking scrub, get some e-rings or pad those damn toms.

  • Thy was epic

  • @Megadurk unplugged sounds nothing like plugged dipshit

  • @abmiepumb ya this guy is a douche man, you have this down perfect, just another asshole talking tough shit over the internet

  • nice man

  • Now I'm definitely hot for teacher...

  • 0:48 jajajajajajajajajajaja

  • Awesome vid dude. It got me going in the right direction. Only thing I do different is double stick the right hand on the low tom and keep the left hand single sticking on the high tom. It works for me that way. And I have always heard rumors about AVH using overdubs but now that I've seen you play it and now that I can play it, I don't think he overdubbed at all. Thanks again man. Great vid.

  • Good aid...Gracias

  • 0:48 listen to his voice

  • must have been in marching band

  • what exercice can i do to play like that?

  • What is you china?? Love the sound!!

  • @Nightmare3x3 16" wuhan china. They're legit cymbals for an awesome price.

  • Fuck dude you are amazing! Perfect teacher too. More vids! lol....awesome job...could never get this down....now at least there's hope :-)

  • i think its like the best instructive video for the intro on this song.... i like it a lot.... though its hard to understand sometimes...

loved the video... u are an awesome drummer...

is there a way to grow arm/wrist/finger speed for drumming easily??

  • @alfredbarra no.

  • @alfredbarra play with rice tips, ALOT.

  • @alfredbarra practice.

  • @alfredbarra Don't worry thats not how its played and it's actually very easy to play the intro to Hot For Teacher.

  • @alfredbarra Rudiments rudiments rudiments. speed can be increased substanialy by practicing your rudiments and using those patterns in your drumming.

  • anyone notice that at 1:24 sounds like Battles-Atlas?

  • when its slower it kind of sounds like the beautiful people

  • WOW dude r u a lefty?

  • @Thebeatles10940 Seeing as he's not using a lefty drum set, I'd say no

  • @asdfcrow thanks for clarifying on that :)

  • damn you're good. its fun to watch so it must be a blast to perform. i love that beat.

  • Hey dude thanks for putting this up! I've been jamming this intro for a few weeks and couldn't figure some it of it out but you nailed it! Thanks for the help!

  • Hey dude thanks for putting this up! I've been jamming this intro for a few weeks and couldn't figure some it of it out but you nailed it! Thanks for the help!

  • Pink floyd

  • Hey brother...excellent job....this took a lot of time and thought to figure it out. Plus it is extraordinarily accurate. Keep it up...ya sound great.

  • Awesome taught me well haha and why do like 80 drums show up at the top in like the last milisecond? Lawl

  • Fantastic! You are a great teacher of drumming! Really enjoyed, Thanks.

  • Thanks dude this cleared up allot about how that song is played.. i could never get that floor thingy down, but now i know how it works :D

  • Good shit man

  • Cool man... best thing I can say about you is that you have a real relaxed personality and the fact you can take negative comments from people on YouTube who probably cant play it themselves shows that you are confident with a high level of maturity.

Fuck the rest of them man. Great vid.

  • why do ppl have 2 snares.....waste of money

  • This is one of the hardest riffs to play.

  • THE ABSOLUTE BEST version on youtube!:D 5 STARS! thank you soo much!

  • never seen anyone with 3 floor toms and 2 snares

  • nice job

  • not bad kid not bad at all. slowing it down after playing it at speed is accually harder cause your ears and brain know what its supposed to sound like now you have to think about how you made it sound like this. i been playing about 13 years how bout you

  • at 1:30 it reinded me of Battles-Atlas<£

  • almost as good as me.......... almost

  • nice technique........ :/

  • Wanna trade hands?

  • that's about as good as I've heard it besides the origional.I always thought there were overdubs, but you proved it's live and not memorex

  • Its really easy the first part you just hit your left hand in a continuous beat without changing the pattern then with your right like you go ba dum like really fast and in between the "ba"and"dum" you wood hit he drum with your ledt hand, still going in hat continuos pattern

  • WAAAAAAAAAAH i want to learn that

but im still to slow, any tips to go that fast ?

  • @axxo798 practice rudiments.

  • @abmiepumb i applaud you for trying to get people to practice rudiments. ive been taking drum lessons for almost two years now and i love playing my rudiments. then i go out and meet other drummers and they say that rudiments are useless! i hate it!! they build up technique and speed!

  • The only reason ppl say this sux is cuz they think theyre good at drums wen theyre not this is a really nice lesson thanx

  • its fuckin all good dude

  • im so confused ... this guy is godd wtf is wrong with you people ..?? wow

  • @kcbszone I know right and i know you can play something like this cuz ive seen you in concert and im your stage crew bahaha

  • @wannabedrummerlol really max .....

  • Good job, man!

  • PINK FLOYD!

ROGER WATERS THE WALL WAS EPIC!!!

(btw nice playing dude, i did the same thing, but i did shuffles on the double bass but a bit slower so you can hear it clearly, its better a bit slower, just saying lol)

  • Lousy at best. Sorry...

  • @2drumdrumdrum Wow...that's harsh 2drum. Although the sound quality of his unmic'ed kit might not be that great, He's the only guy on youtube who sounds like he's got it right.

  • @2drumdrumdrum You're an idiot at best. Sorry...

  • @2drumdrumdrum I'll agree that the sound quality is lousy at best. I bought some new pretty good mics a little while back, tho, so when I make another vid, it'll be better. Thanks for your criticism.

  • @2drumdrumdrum I looked all over for your cover where you completely ACE the intro, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I assume you'll share the link once you complete your recording.

  • Nice job!

  • dude your nasty! and nice job on getting somany views too

  • Man, this guy is lame. I could drum circles around him with one hand!

  • @Chinniciuni Video or stfu.

  • @Chinniciuni At least he's not putting other people's drumming skills down on youtube behind his computer screen like a little bitch!

  • @bma852 Lol. Lmao. Rotflol. I lean like a cholo. @abmiepumb

  • @Chinniciuni do it then

  • @Chinniciuni also keep in mind this lesson is for beginners, if your an expert go learn something complicated and go be an up yourself twat elsewhere

  • Great playing & teaching bra!!

  • Great Video!!! Note for note it is the best How-to and Play I've seen on an acoustic set for this song...

  • @batmanrb89 Also, Alex Over Dubbed with the recording of this song....So he never actually played it in full this way that anybody has seen.....

  • Great and simple.

  • @AirborneSquadron not really, i mean i can do that i just need a slight work on the high tom accents. all i do when i come to that part is i slow it down a smidgion, (if that's how you spell it), but hey. i wouldnt have been able to do it correctly if it weren't for this guy. thanks abmiepumb. and i have a suggestion of a song full cover: Psychosocial by Slipknot

  • This is by far the best cover. All the others on YouTube suck. Nice job man

  • what leg do you start the double bass shuffle on?

  • Good job man...NOW DO IT ON GUITAR!!!

  • @Blackened4everPS3 i usually start off on the right, mainly cuz im a righty drummer lol

  • I'm pretty sure that Alex Van Halen puts in a few slurred heratas or puddatas (sp?) after his first 5 or 6 straight hertatas according to the recorded version. But you still did a great job on this video!

  • Can you post a cover of the whole song.. PLEAASEEEEEE!

  • Solid man!!!

  • thats nuts man!!

  • You look like Blindzor .-.

  • FUCKIN AMAZIN BRO!

  • Sweet set up

  • Amazing!!!!

  • That was phenomenal dude! Very nice!

  • nice dude your fucking good

  • You are a god

  • this has helped alot :) cheers dude

    subscribed

  • nice job man!

  • Excellent job man, makes more sense when you explained it like that. Ive been playing for almost 30 years (Bill Ward fanatic) and I learned alot. Well done...

  • Very good job. I don't like anything but this impressed me.

  • Dude that's rad I'm trying to figure it out right now

  • stop with the gay sound effects

  • @tonymlg91 mkay then cutie.

  • nice shirt...

  • Well, just to let that one dude know that said it was on double bass, listen to the intro closer!!! It's definitely on the floor tom because you can hear his sticks clicking.

  • @KH2Finatix dude, speaking from a drummer's perspective, the drum intro would be completely pointless if it was JUST double kicks the whole time.

the toms are what makes the drumming part of the intro interesting.

  • @Intuision i understand, but hes playing the background part, which is on the double bass, on the toms, so in a way, its hurting the actual tom part

  • i hope you know that the high tom accents are overdubbed on the recording. Just thought id let you know

  • at first ithought u werent playin it right cause u were playin it slow then when u speed it up it sounded right lolbamazing video anyhow

  • lol at 0:51 "rip" HAHAH

  • Very good young man!!! I like that.

  • ZOMG

    Beast :D

    Loved it

    Oh, and BTW

    You owned(:

and the video really helped me learn the intro. Thanks(:

  • @abmiepumb yyoutube.com/watch?v=hX5OQWXX8i8

  • Holyyy. You can play man.

    You should make more vids.
