you do not need firewire to do this. I just use an old capture card i found and it works fine. Just plug in the capture card, hook it up to the camera with the cable that allows you to view you're pictures or videos on the T.V. Then Download Manycam which is free, open it up, select your capture card, and voila. Works with Skype,Stickcam, U stream, Youtube, Yahoo, MSN, AIM, Tiny chat, ETC. Just make sure you're camera has an AV in port, and not an AV out.

I have the Kodak play sport. It is like the Flip camera but this one is waterproof and I just liked it better. It uses no tapes or anything. So how do I connect to my computer and use on something like skype? I am unable to use this on skype because skype cannot detect a camera. Any ideas?

hi chris.. is there a way to daisy chain (or cluster if you will) 2 or more computers? im running ableton live 7 from my desktop.. but i cant make full use of it since my desktop isnt that powerful enough.. is there a way to bring in my laptop power into the desktop? i need to feed in more tracks into the program.. currently there are 14 tracks.. i need to fit in 8 more (at least).. powerful studio computers can fit in up to 52 recording tracks!

Chris you could use a screencasting program with a DV camera in Ubuntu Linux, hint run Kino and gtk-recordmydesktop. I do it in this video: "100% Ubuntu Linux : Using a DV Camcorder with Kino via a Firewire Connection".

i think this idea is easier

as an example, i dont have a webcam, but i have the camera icon on msn, if i click it the other person will watch tv (i could also mess with the msn audio config and route the line-in to send that audio so thay can actually watch tv on my msn window)

for this you could plug a camcorder to the s-video and route it, or you could get an old vcr or something and route both the video and audio from the camera.

To clear this up, Firewire is simply an extremely fast version of USB

Use transfers at 300MBPS

Firewire transfers at 700MBPS

It is used for media and data transfer.

Many PC's dont have them but because macs are for media and design you will find that all of them have got a firewire input.

My pc has a firewire input but my pc is fucking awesome...
