  • This Song Loch Lomond is sung every year @ Mckay Graduation. Its a traditional to the Royal Scots.

  • Wow, brilliant! These guys actually sound scottish, which I always thought was hard for Americans to pull off (compliment not insult). Brilliant job!

  • I love this song. We did this song my senior year for contest (: the balance isn't the best, but overall good.

  • @greendayrulz86 Thanks for your comments. I really love this song too!

  • why do jews have so strong and nice voice?

  • @straightway85 They're not Jewish lol. They're just a Christian Private School. I know this because I use to go here until I moved. :S Go Crusaders ;)

  • The Chamber Choir at my school is singing this for our Winter Fine Arts Night. And we sound the same except the second solo is sang by a Soprano I... but good job

  • klasse Chor! Das Stück habt ihr wunderbar gesungen. Danke - thanks

  • yeah, main guy sounds pop not folk ...good otherwise though

  • My school's chamber choir sang this song. Our male solo was amazing!!! :)

    We ♥ him!

  • I LOVE this arrangement! im in the Notre Dame Glee Club, and we will be doing the all male version of this next year. i cant wait!

  • A beautifull song.done justice by an awesome choir.

  • this is a canadian arrangement!!! jonathan quick. :)

I agree with other commentators. too pop-y. and it really should be lohmond. (guys. first verse. taller vowels)

nooo! you didn't do the turn on "neeever meet again"! :P

  • the sopranos were piercing and it made the balance feel off...plus, the soloist was super pop-ish and scooped on basically every note

  • Glad you enjoyed it! ^U^

  • @randycarruthers LOL kill him with kindness

  • @famoussomeday i agree!

  • @famoussomeday pretty sure i've been singing for years and they did not "scoop", the song is meant to be sung with an accent.

  • were do i find the baritone version for this? i need it

  • they could have sung this a little louder and make their vowels taller

  • my school's choir sang this for our graduation ceremony. I have never really been one for choir music but there is something about this song that is quite simply awesome.

  • Well done , loved the use of the Scottish language in this version .. Duncan .

  • i like how the soloist sang it

  • i lost the sopranos a few times. also, there were a few breaths i heard that weren't supposed to be taken. other than that, good job.

  • It's nice. But is there meant to be a big breath in the middle of the word "Scot-land"? It's definately not 'technically' correct in sense of choral singing but I'm guessing it's to keep the 'true'/original style of the song? And also from "before ye" at 53 seconds and about 10 seconds onwards the baritone are searching for notes haha. OTHERWISE. I like :)

  • really well done, but the tenor solo was very pop-style. not at all how i prefer it. but the voices had a nice blend and very nice feel.

  • They sang it well...

    I love it!!

  • the harmonies are excellent, and the soloist is quite good. Well done.

  • Thank you Kaitlyn for your nice comment! I watched a couple of your videos and you have a mighty pretty voice! Thank you for sharing it!

  • I can't hear the 2nd sops.

  • this is one of my favorite pieces of music.

  • Also, the soprano's need to remember their notes!

  • I think that the soloist has a great voice, but should really learn to NOT sing through his nose. It would have been incredible.

  • Agree! The choir learned this in one week. Check the latest version on my youtube site, Loch Lomond 2 25 09. In my videos, click on "see all." Let me know what you think. :-)

  • I don't mean to bring up an argument, but the first time I did this song, it was for the Maine State Honours Choir, and we only had 48 hours to lean it; but then again, it was MSHC.

  • It sounds so much better with a scottish accent and in a men's choir.

  • The Feestate Men's Choir is really awesome! Yes, the authentic Scottish accent makes it special! The SA kids are working on that! :-)

  • So Fast!! But a good performance overall. A bit of work needed on the vowels. Arranged by my cousin!

  • Thanks for your comment! Arranged by your cousin! Awesome! We sang this again a couple of weeks ago at a choral festival. It's a bit slower. You can check it out elsewhere on my site. Thanks!

  • i love this song! my choir is currently learning this song... i just love it!

  • Thank you for your comment!

  • Amazing song, the whole performance could use a bit of movement though... A good choir is determined by it's sound and if it feels the music. For example, in soul songs you need to be moving or else it is a boring presentation. Even little bits of head bobbing and small movements like moving into crescendos and such makes the performance that much better.

  • Overall it was good. The soloist in the beginning could have done a bit better job with his vowels, but in the scope of the song, it's irrelevant. Good job.

  • One second thought, it's probably because he lacks the accent, which is no fault of his, so I take it back. Great job.

  • Thank you for your much appreciated comment!

  • No beatbox? 1/10

    jk =) great job

  • Yeah I hope my choir can sing it as good as they did lol yeah as you can tell me and taneshab34 go to the same school lol

  • They are really good. :D my choir at my school are singing it for st. patricks day. Our concert should be good, lol well i at least hope so.

  • I'm from south salem high school and my choir and I sang this song for one of our concerts. Me and a friend are actually scottish and we tried to teach the choir the accent but we didn't do as good as Salem Academy. The audience still liked it tho. But this is a beautiful song!

  • the first soloist was great!!

i love this and it makes me tearful listening to it.

    so beuatiful

    x

  • Thanks Emma for your nice comment. God bless you there in England (my forebears came from Scotland :-)

  • wow.you are the first person that has actually called me emma!

    yey

    thank you!

  • no disrespect, good effort but sadly only scottish people have the right voice for this great song.sorry

  • No offense taken! I think they got the accent fairly close considering they are from Oregon! I think it is still very much an acceptable and beautiful rendition.

  • yeah,im scottish and my brother sounds good at it

    yet my american cousin dusnt

you have a good point there

  • The soloist is far too poppy for this style of music, and I think it detracts from the authentic effect of the arrangement. No offense to the soloist -- you've got a great voice, really strong and clear register! -- just not how I'd direct if I were conducting.

Also the dai-dais have a tendency to rush. But when I sang this back in high school we had the same problem.

Anyway, I nitpick because overall it's really solid. Great video, great performance, GREAT arrangement! Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for your comments and glad you enjoyed it!

  • However, the bass 2's should, if you do in fact do this again, sing out more, especially at the beginning. Not even so much more in terms of volume, but more intensity. Also, people should really dig into the text and try to put themselves in the situation of the song, especially the women talking about the last time they saw their love, and really dig into the crescendo's up to the top there and back away in both tension and volume, and let the vibrato out as they grow into the top notes.

  • (cont)

be quited down to match the choir, he has a very beautiful voice. The basses should also really watch the internal pulse on the Dai's, and the rest of the choir should make sure to listen to them to keep from rushing. Keep in mind i'm a bit hypercritical, but i think in general a choir knows what is done well, and knowing what to fix is important. I personally performed this peice in Honors Chorus though, and that sound is very tough to match, though i think the males got close.

  • the second to last "oo" at the start is a bit out of tune for the bass 2's, other than that, its good there except i think there can be a bit more crescendo on the descent and decrescendo on the last "oo". Also, the females should look for a more mature sound. The males have such a deep and rich sound and then when the SSA comes the feel is almost ruined. I feel like if they tried to be more mournful there the problems with matury would be fixed. The last note of the second solo should also

  • Thank you for your comment! :-)

  • oh, and the men need to be louder and the altos need to be quieter. we overpower them...haha, that's what happens when you have twice as many girls as boys....

mrs. c. got a little excited at one point and made us go a little fast...haha, or we got excited and sped up ourselves. oh well, we learned it in a week, we rock.

  • i am so glad that we are doing this again this year...we really need to perfect it. but i'll be really happy if and when bradley does the solo....ah, his voice makes my heart melt!!!!! tim vandegriend made my heart melt too. oh, and ewan mcgregor in moulin rouge. that is some serious heart melting there.

  • We are sooo good. =]

  • An undoubtedly brilliant rendition of the song. Absolutely love it :)

  • Well done!

  • Very impressive, Janet. You are quite the director.

Your balance between the low and high male voices is PERFECT!!!!!!!!

Thanks Randy for putting these on You tube
