@Travhouse I believe it's 89+ Ford Vermillion Red, but with a heavy coat of brown primer underneath to give it a almost purplish hue (instead of the typical gray). I loved the six in mine, but I decided to go a different direction after the cylinder head took a crap (it's ridiculous trying to find a decent machine shop anymore.).
@1983F100 At this stage I had a custom exhaust on it, header, Offy intake, 4bbl, 268H cam in it, and also swapped out the stock converter for a 1800 stall (stock V8 converter, made a huge difference). Six is long gone though; currently building up a big block 429 for it and restoring the interior.
You have a nice truck there buddy. Love those Flaresides.
Dam sweet step side, i've been itching to build up a 300, something like swapping to a 240 head, put a bigger cam, put one of those niffty offy intakes put a 2 barrel carb on it. That all i can think of doing. What all had you done with your 300? wish i had a stepside like that was it an 81?
@Nfordmann It's got a good rumble to it, way better in person. It IS just a six cylinder; you're not going to get big block sound from it. I also wasn't going to put Super 44's on something I drive long distances. :)
I was pondering getting a 268 duration 0.456 lift cam and running headers on my '84 4X4 with a 300 I6. I have already converted it to a Ford Duraspark, using a GM HEI ignition module; awesome mod. Ford nuts should consider this mod, as my truck runs so much better now! Plus, it is so much easier to carry a little module, versus, a big box. I am also considering getting an Offy 4V intake and using a 500cfm Holly carburetor. Yeah, I know that it is cheaper to do a V8, but I want to be different.
@kc8ntp The cam I had in this was a 268H Comp Cam. Great cam in my opinion. With what you listed for specs you have a rockin' 300 in progress, but if I were to do it again, I'd swap a 240 head on for higher compression and port the hell out of it. Just remember, different is often expensive; but it's very satisfying to build something nobody else has. :)
Its a beauty.. I got a 300 in my 95 f-150 and i absolutely LOVE that engine.. Fords bringing back the 302 (5.0) I think they should bring back the ol workhorse engine too (300)!!!
did the cam provide a good amount of power? my 91 efi 300 is such a slug its annoying. i got custom twin intakes which helped an dual exhaust which also helped but i want more
All over... Some stuff I got locally off of Craigslist, some of it custom ordered at the local NAPA, but the majority of the stuff was purchased from Summit Racing.
hey do you know the color code for that truck? nice truck nice color ive got a 77 f100 with a turboed inline 6 great trucks
