The TV spot is only for southern Cyprus, the internationally recognized republic of Cyprus under ethnic Greeks, but the Northern Republic of Cyprus under ethnic Turks remains not recognized by the world community. The two halves had a civil war from independence in 1960 to a ceasefire in 1993. Turkish troops invaded Cyprus in 1973 to protect the northern half & a decade later, made a new country for Cypriot Turks. When Cyprus joined in 2004, the North refused both to unify & EU membership. +
@demikede1 The european union recognizes the whole island as "the republic of cyprus" and thus when Cyprus joined the EU the whole island joined the EU. There is no recognized north republic of whatever u call it .. and Turkish troops invaded Cyprus on July 1974. Know your facts.
