In the same way, a lot of french parents lost their adopted children with the earthquake because their files were not completely close and they don't have the possibility to reach the kids out of Haiti.
If they were already set to be adopted then I understand, but if this is a because of the earthquake then this is a knee jerk reaction that is not taking into consideration if the wannabe parent really want kids or the fact that your taking kids from their home land and sending them to another hemisphere into another culture.
The definition of orphans in Haiti is not the same in many other. In other countries orphans means there parents no longer want them, in Haiti because of poverty many parents place their children with people or orphanages that are capable of taking care of their kids since they are unable to, they are not necessarily giving up their parental rights.
Also this rush on Haitian kids is not taking into consideration that there maybe relative who want to take care of them but in this confusion after the quake have not been located. Emotions are high right now and people do want to do the right thing with out considering the long term effects on the child or themselves, they are not puppies you get from the pound and when things dont work out you can send them back with no consequences on the mental health of the child.
