@MESSier1188 if you're the first arriving officer, you always do a 360 prior to making entry...exposures, egress, utilities, etc. depending on the # of stories, i'll carry a ladder to throw up in case the seat is on another story...driving up, you normally only see 3 sides, you NEED to get the whole picture, especially for other arriving companies...in this case i would've gotten the second due to jump in for a primary and after the 360 grabbed a nozzle...that is, unless another company arrived
@johnskibs i guess us new yorkers have a different way of fighting it. the truck officer goes in with the can man and irons man. the OV and/or roof man throws the ladders and does the 360 and gives their report from the outside. just wanted to know why since we have an aggressive interior approach. thanks brother
Perfect job guys. A garabage man doesn't get excited when he turns the corner and sees garabage, we should be the same with fire. You guys really showed professionalism on that job. Great Communication, great safety, good tactics, good size up, Great driving. I'll be showing this video to the guys at my station tomorrow. A lot to learn from here.
Wonderful safe job! Assessments were well made and directions well given! I would like to point out, When you where on route to the scene, one thing that really impressed me, was your safe and thoughtful driving!! excellent video and department by far! Keep doing a good job and stay safe!
very smooth. not rushing and taking time to make sure everything is set. everyone has a job and knows what they have to do ahead of time. well executed. our department is horrible at this!
Wannabe firefighter here, can some one tell me the purpose of the second ladder, n why u vent the roof. Doesnt that feed the fire? Or is it to let the house clear for people to go in? Thanks
@DevinWhiteman venting the roof prevents smoke and heat from building up as much inside. Second ladder on the roof gives them something to stand on, so they don't slip off the snow covered roof.
Whoever is wearing this helmet cam has his stuff together. However, why are you doing all of the work? You had to make several trips back to the Truck for ladders and tools. Are you just a two-man truck company? No disrespect, just wondering if there is only two due to cutbacks. You did a great job telling the troops what to do. Your ventilation could have been alot faster if you had more help with you. Everyone went home safe. Nice job!
Jeez guys, good job but speed it up a little bit. The second we are on scene the stick goes up to the roof and people start working. It took like 5 minutes once you guys were on scene to go in and was there a primary search at all once you arrived? I did skip around in the video so i may have missed something....
@Blahboy68 Are truckies there to search? No. That's what a Wagon crew does. It's better for the truckies to immediately start venting so visibility is better for the interior crew. I'm sure you'd appreciate it if you were going in there
@301whitehall What? Engine crews are there for fire attack and search as they go...Truck companies should be handling ground ladders, ventilation, and search/rescue. Don't know where you're from, but that's a pretty darn consistent way of doing it.
@78ntm the fire will follow wereever the air is coming from..if u vent from the roof, the fire goes uppwards instead of spreading vertically and it also releives the heat because heat rises, allowing the interior crew to advance. When you vent horizontally, you also releive some heat and smoke but te fire will follow wereever you vented from, in the case you probably wouldnt have broken a window on the un involved side of the house, since it was a 1 sty building, venting from the roof was easier
@xXBirDEXx125 Do you love what you do as an explorer? If you do, then you'll love firefighting. Trust me. Love the simple things and your love for the job as a whole will increase tenfold so the answer to your question is yes, it is a good career to follow.
@xXBirDEXx125 When combined the correct way with fire attack, ventilation can help the interior crews see and attack the fire more effectively. As you may also see, ventilation is messed up a lot by crews who don't know what they're doing, and the ventilation causes the fire to grow very rapidly before fire attack crews are in place.
well i like the idea of doin a 360 before goin interior or to the roof, but i have to say it took quite awhile for you to do either of those things. a lot of repeating yourself and nonsense. that was a bit frustrating to watch. and the cutman kept letting the saw go back to idle while cutting which in heavy fire conditions can kill the saw. other than that it seemed well coordinated and a good stop.
Im not sure if i agree with this guy walking around the house alone, but otherwise good job! just to elaborate on my comment, if this guy wouldve went down and needed immediate attention he couldve layed there awhile
This is how it is done guys, great communication, teamwork and this firefighter really shows his experience by how calm & composed he is. I've been a volunteer for three years and start as a career fighter march 1st and I can vouch for alot of guys/girls out there that it is hard to keep calm when you are staring down the mouth of the bitch.I like to call it organized chaos! Thumbs up for the great video, keep em comming.
@j3r3mysk8 Kid i wasnt talking about that its cool how they bring a camera into a firetruck if you dont know what that is search it... And then upload to You Tube

alsowhat does venting do? wont that just add more oxygen making the fire burn faster??
xXBirDEXx125 10 months ago
@xXBirDEXx125 yes venting adds oxygen, but it removes smoke and improves firefighters' ability to work inside.
