a couple months ago, i caught one of those but it was huge! i caught it at the ozarks, my line was really deep so i couldnt really bring it up as good. it was about 10 lbs. my biggest catch ever!
@apathy25tx they get worms after 18" or somewhere around that range. thats why alot of people prefer not to eat them. but i also read that the worms in the flesh are not harmful to people. i know my brother-in-law caught a good 30incher and they took it home and cooked n ate it. i agree with you. They ARE good eatin! :)
We eat them here in South Texas. We actually have fish fries on the jetties dureing the "Drum Run" here on South Padre Island. I dont recommend eating the larger ones.
Actually I disagree with the "Not a good eating fish" remark. That may be the case with those 15 pound plus whoppers shown here but the smaller black drum make for a good fish fry here in South Texas...P.S. Make sure and fry up the throats on these bad boys instead of throwing them away.
Damn! I couldn't explain it any better. The 5-7 lbs are the best. The throat is excellent if prepared right. I use the rest of the scrap as fertilizers or crab bait.
Why hook it if you throw it back??? That's not right

black drum is good eating! We had some in the 28" range and they tasted great baked with some seasoning, garlic and onion.

Taste like its cousin...the redfish. The smaller ones got better texture. But you're better off filleting spec trout.
