Dirk wrote all of his bass lines. He even wrote most of the guitar parts for Morning View as well as a lot of Incubus' hit singles. He left/was kicked out of Incubus during the writing of A.C.L.O.T.M. due to differences in song writing. That's why every album since Dirk's departure sounds so different than every other Incubus album.
Perhaps you need to re-listen to "science" and then "morning view" to see how incubus' evolves. aclotm and MV are not the first albums to sound very different. I also don't think you're in a band based on your lack of knowledge of "chemistry." each band member brings a very specific sound to the band. since each member goes off the next, changing one can completely transform a band. incubus did not choose ben kenney because he could replicate dirks licks, i'm sure. You should think first.

I liked alex (aka Dirk) more, mainly because he was one of the founding members of incubus and he had some amazing bass lines. its just not the same seeing the band without him.....but dont get me wrong, i think ben is the perfect replacement for dirk. he added a new style to the band and not to mention, he is a very good bass player.....thats my opinion anyway.peace.

ben is a complete musician, and hes far better that dirk, Dirk mostly played roots, and OK, he had great basslines, but Ben's are far more creative
