  • An 11 yr old 1st degree black belt? So you are so awesome you can positively beat any bully? I think not. At 11 I would bet on any untrained adult. The adult will always win against a child. A child does not have the physical strength to hurt or defeat any adult male.

  • @OkinawanTemple Well, he did say "junior" black belt - admittedly, it was a marketing creation for the Western public: otherwise, they'd follow Japanese tradition and not get to brag about their kids being a black belt until 15 or later. The parents may not want to pay the money to keep their kids at the dojo if it takes as long as it should to reach what Shihan calls "beginning" black belt (the literal translation of sho dan).

  • I have to learn this and create a kama kata in 4 days... oh joy

  • @AlyxFisher Go to Shihan's "Ni Cho Gama kata" and use what you can absorb - there are a lot of moves and you might not need to be that complicated to impress a shinzaka, plus trying to get the *whole* kata learned effectively would be "herculean" in 4d days unless you are experienced in all of the hojoundo. Please share a video if you feel confident enough! Gambatte, kudasai!

  • I will be getting my kamas in a week

I'm 11 and a first degree junior black blt

  • Both these men are masters in my eyes

  • And when should you? We do over an hour of work-out at each class, starting with joint exercises, followed by push-ups, sit-ups and legs exercises, and ending with stretching. When you have teachers that are in great shape after more than half a century of strenuous exercises, you don't question their routines.

  • Wow, this will come in use for when I begin my training with Kamas, this summer i will do this every morning. 2 questions though, is there a specific name for Kama fighting or is it just called Kama Fighting? Next, does anybody know where you could get Kama fighting lessons from?

  • You wouldn't take just kama training, it's an element of kobudo, including bo, nunchaku, tonfa, and others. Couldn't tell you where true Okinawan-style dojos are. You can find these tools in Japan and Okinawa in the hardware stores - used in gardens all over the country, not for fighting! Gambatte!

  • k thanx :)

  • I use something called the Gerber Brush Thinner. It is similar in size, design and function to a Kama. It works great in the woods and garden for chopping brush and small to medium branches. So Kama techniques can be applied and used in modern times very well. The same moves used for cutting a human work well on trees and shrubs too ;-) I like it old school, train with what we normally use in our daily lives. Great video!

  • Thank you for very kind interpretation.

  • grow up -.-'

  • thanks for the knowledge

  • Is there anything this guy can't do

  • I watched Sensei Shihan sit cross legged beneath a rope of some 6 meters, walked up the rope with his arms still cross legged turned around at the top and came back down head first. He was 58 at the time I believe... I was in the children's class at the time so we spent 75% of the time exercising...and 25% San Chi=)

  • Thanks very much for posting this!

  • many thanks for all the stuff ;)
