  • A few of the GW stores have good customers service and such. But the ones I seem to hit are the ones which they'll slap a price tag on the tiem, even if it's junk and hope some fool buys it. I have even seen CRACKED bicycle helmets for sale at GW Now if that's legal for them to do, theh they DESERVE to get GARBAGE

  • Goodwill is not run by any religious organization. You may be thinking of Salvation army. The money generated at Goodwill stores puts A LOT of people to work that would otherwise not have an opportunity to do so and I don't just mean in the stores.

  • I don't know what part of the country this goodwill is in. MERS Goodwill in the St. Louis area is happy to accept old TV's working or not. The working ones are happily sold to happy buyers and the non working ones are recycled. I just used happy way too many times. I am not going to change it.

  • In the UK we're going through the digital switchover as well. Charity shops and Cash Generator won't take them because they can't sell them. Though here you can buy the converter boxes (or Freeview boxes) seperately.

  • Mine sells all kinds of old tv's and shit!

  • good will has always been a thrift store. Go to saint Vincent Depaul and support them . They help 100% over expensenses and is not controlled by the church but by retired individuals who in their heart believe in the cause to help the poor

  • I like how the anchorman had to basically contradict everything that the Goodwill rep was implying... shoddy journalism at its best!

  • The anchorman was right; I thought the Goodwill guy was trying to put lipstick on a pig with that "going green" statement. He should have just said "we can't get rid of that many TVs". I've seen what look like perfectly good TVs out in the rain, waiting for the trash collectors, for the past 2 years. I offered to help my friend fix his 13 year old Panasonic with a jittery picture; no dice; he's hoping it will die completely so he can get a new one. I'm happy with the converters myself.

  • I get TV's all day, everyday...at Goodwill in GA. Just keep dropping them off.

  • years ago when talk of TV going digital first came around, they were telling everyone that analogue TVs will be 100% useless no matter what. At least they offer converter boxes so you can still use them though.

But if you ask me, I think this whole digital conversion is nothing but a huge moneymaking scam by the electronic companies, so they can sell more of their cheap low quality flat screen TVs.

But at least here in Canada, they're not raping us of analogue TV until 2011.

  • Another thing. I was watching a segment on the news the other day about lead paint, and slumlords when i saw one of those 1990's Zeniths in the background with a green screen. The woman in the segment was low income, and i bet she got the set for free. With the bad economy i still believe their will always be a need for used sets. That is where Value Village comes in.

  • Yep, I'll be hitting the Value villages more often now. I have been going to the Goodwill for years and it did use to be more modest. They used to be on 52nd street in Kenosha in a plain metal building with a brick front located across from Shopko. Now, they built some expensive monstrosity with what looks like wings on the roof located on Hwy 50 just before Green Bay. They are defnitely faggy now. I have found many great tvs there over the years. But not now.

  • At least around here, Goodwills are disorganized, overpriced, and always have old, slow, crabby people working there. I dunno about "faggy", though... I haven't had any luck finding a boyfriend at one! :-P

  • Mark i like when you ranted the word "BULLSHIT!" LOL!!! I myself think that the Goodwill chain is turning into glorified pampered faggy thrift shops. Cudahy used to have a Goodwill years ago which was nothing compared to the ones out there now. It was more like a Value Village, and had no regulations of what was sold.
