It's great to see some of the members are still making music... After discovering Mel's (the drummer) new solo effort CALL ME DAVE (worth a listen). I found this fun piece. It's a shame this excellent band never became as big as Joe Jackson.
Compare the first line of the chorus "A simple life is all I need" to the first line of the chorus to EC's "Two Little Hitlers" (from a year earlier) "A simple game of self-respect". They're identical.
Very cool.........just youtubing some old 45(s) I have.......before I discard them :(
luckily........I am able to find alot of what I purchased throughout the years but due to lack of storage :( I have to get rid of my precious.......precious 45s ....albums......... and cassettes........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
This is like the end of the world for me......and.......thank god for cds!!! ;)
Of course......now I know why I liked this tune......catchy and elvis costello ish..
Any Trouble the classic band that never made it. They looked so ordinary their songs didn't frighten or challenge but so what. Clive & the guys looked like the loser males( myself included that followed them) Their songs chronicled our lives.I take back the opening statement Any Trouble The Classic Band.
Thanks for posting!!! Listen to one of their albums and you sit and wonder why 4 or 5 songs weren't at the top of the charts. Definitely my most under rated band of the 80's.
How did these guys not make it big?? I can ony assume Clive's looks were a factor. He didnt' have classic front man looks. But he sure could write good pop songs! What a shame.
I saw them so many times in London in the 80's...they were fantastic in the pubs and clubs and I agree so much...they really really deserved so much more credit..thanks for posting this...
Bought the album in 1981... saw them live in 1983, Providence, RI. Just as goofy as I remember them. But a GREAT record! (love their cover of Name of the Game)

Clive Gregson has one of the most underrated voices in popular music. It's amazing!

It's taken me 29 or 30 years to see this again. Thanks for posting. Great times, when MTV was about music.

It's stuff like this that makes me miss 80s and 90s-era MTV. :(

Starting at 1:42, watch over the bass player's right shoulder to see the roach crawling down the curtain!

@WhopBobbaLuBop Actually the "roach" is there throughout the video! Cool custom Strat.

My Dad used to be in Any Trouble before they were famous(ish) so we followed them from being small. Extremely underrated as this was great pop music!

@SarahJones3105 Is your dad in the video?

@redD4Dworld My Grandad isn't in the video (my Auntie mistakenly commented using my youtube account...!).

Does anyone have a video with their Abba cover The Name Of The Game? I saw them playing that song in the Netherlands and I loved it.

Classic pop. Music should be about songs, not looks. If it was, these guys would have been huge.
Thanks for posting.

Sounds a lot like "Living in Paradise" by Costello., especially the last part of the 1st verse.
DrGrumbles612 1 year ago
In this video, there is a vague Costello similarity (maybe its a 1980 new wave image thing?)

If the charts weren't full of hype at the time - this would have been a top ten single.
