I wrote an article post on "How to Build Your Own Virtual World" using the Diva Distribution Standalone Hypergrid version of Opensim. It gives detailed instructions for setting up on a Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 and can be found at rocketvirtual
I have downloded it, but i dont know how to intall it can you please help me explainig me step by step how to install it once that I have uncompressed it because the file was in .zip
@Rocky1138 - I only wish that I could have something like that! The technique for getting Google Earth-like data into OpenSim is somewhat painful and tedious, using commercial off-the-shelf ESRI ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine to get it all done. If I'd written something to bring Earth into OpenSim, I could be proud. As it is, I'm just tired!
Hey, Iamjust starting m7y adventures with OpenSim, is there a way i can get a copy of this UC Berkley campus to run on my machine locally? i want to see all the full renderings and test how they run locally on my machine.
This would give me an idea of how my world will run when I finish building my virtual world for my in house home network.
Thanks, it really is cool to have a real-world based virtual world, mirroring a familiar space (at some scale) on what is basically a good workstation-class machine.

Have you released the source to allow you to easily pull in Google Earth data to OpenSim? It'd be awesome to play with!
