  • Beautiful, excellent. This was my favorite childhood book growing up. It's even better with sound and motion.

    Thanks!!!!

  • wtf

  • @tigre1354

It teaches children not to be bad. If Titus hadn't been curious about that box, he wouldn't have been exploded.

  • hmm...the bus should a' been here by now....

  • wow.

  • voices and sounds are awful and not funny!

What a waste of your time!

  • oh my god

  • This is weirdly hilarious.

  • The animation, music and sound effects were great. I would only suggest one thing. You need a narrator actually reading the book while the scenes play out. Other than that, great.

  • I think I liked H... I feel like an awful person.

  • I love the fact that you added the sound effects! To riff on what people mentioned earlier about this being monty python-esque and not macabre enough, I think that may be what E.G. was striving for, something a little tongue-in-cheek that many people would not get, with a little hilarity thrown in. Whenever I look at his work, I want to laugh at the impropriety if it. Beautiful.

  • sound effects ruined it for me. you get an A for effort though

  • LOL this is absolutely funny

  • This is it!? This is what I have for the rest of my life!?" my favorite part :)

  • I always liked my fairy tales Grimm, but I think Gorey nursery rhymes may be just as good.

  • Love the animation, appreciate the effort....BUT the extra sound effects put me off...sorry. Instead of a stoic Gorey piece, it comes off like a Monty Python-esque comedy bit, like someone mentioned earlier. Good try and thanks for the effort.

  • I´m a fan super!!!

  • By far the best rendition of the Gashlycrumb Tinies I've seen. You've somehow managed to bring them all back to life! E.G. would be proud! Well done :)

  • this must have been the inspiration for a gorey demise by creature feature

  • very monty python!

  • Wow, that was really good! My favourite part was the axe and the sound it made as it ran away.

  • Love it, love it, love it! I laugh far too much at certain Tinies' demises.

  • Beautiful :D

  • Excellent work!

  • haha lovely soundeffects!

  • This animation leaves nothing to the imagination; making it quite dull.

  • Jesus the still pictures are actually way more disturbing than the animations. Aslo i can now see one of david firths major influences

  • so........swallow tacks = attacked by toilet? and lmao at ennui kid and invisible werewolf with axe :)

  • That axe will haunt my dreams for a dozen nights to come... O__O

  • The classic version of Happy Tree Friends.

  • Incredibly crude and for that reason in bad taste

  • My teacher showed the whole class this. It's her favorite poem. She said the author was a nice person but something was not right in his brain. (: Lol, I don't find this funny but the ways they die are weird.

  • i liked Q

  • 27 Brits reacted to 'Fanny sucked dry by a leech'

  • very very close to monty python stuff.

  • Children dying shouldn't be this funny!

  • LOVED THIS. This is my favorite poem ever.

Neville, Prue, Titus and Susan had to be my favorites, and Kate's axe was SCARY.

    "This is IT?"

There needs to be a like Squared button.

  • like!

  • I just love how the skeleton guy says Edward Gorey, and then his jaw falls off. XD

  • 'Gorey' but great!

  • gay.

  • You've done a terrific Job - did you send it to Mr. Gorey?

    Great Stuff - thanks

  • @brixtonbluebeat Gorey's been dead for years.

  • @ethanwc yes, but only 10 years. I wasn't sure when this animation of yours was made. I am sure he would have approved - it's horribly good.

  • how does the L animation work ?

by "taking lye by mistake" means that he drank lye which is a strong solution of sodium or potassium hydroxide which means he was poisoned

  • I loved Clara *arm falls off* "That wasn't supposed to happen." HAHAHA. Great animation!

  • ok...

  • HAHAHA!!

  • This is totally like the Creature Feature song "A Gorey Demise"

  • @ultamatebeatlefan Thats because Creature Feature based that song off of this story.

  • BRILLIANT WORK @AkiraTakahara BRAVO!!

    CONGRATULATIONS! !

  • lol. pretty funny

  • That was so... disturbing @.@

  • bwhaha I just thought that same thing about the toilet! where are the tack? he should be projectile vomiting them. :P~

  • was una taken by samara morgan?

  • A very good adaptation of Gorey's work. Lol.

  • GREAT JOB!!!

  • SO AWESOME!

  • I love it. ;D

  • Columbia University just received Edward Gorey's works as a donation to the Rare Books Archive at Butler Library. This is an animated version of Gorey's Gashlycrumb Tinies...a darker take on the alphabet.

  • Only one bit of feedback: Titus's bomb should have been ticking. Because you know all old-school package bombs ticked ;)

But no, that was awesome. Great job. I loved Kate and the killer axe.

  • some of the scenes are really good! and funnyxd poor children, this is weird, but awesome! i didn't see sth like this, some kind of a animated horror sneces? i luvvv horrors ;> what a shame it's not a film ;p

  • i'd be doubly amazed if Mr. Gorey was still alive AND mastering Java and Flash, though i'm sure this is exactly as he saw it in his brilliant, peculiar head!

  • so fuckin' weird.

  • What-The-Hell :\

  • Siobhan Magnus will love this lol

  • Kinda frightening, but so Tim Burton-ish! I really like this type of animation.

  • ABC ;D

  • ABC ;D

  • umm so?

  • so?

  • so?

  • not dark enough to silly

  • ok the fire one freaked me out

  • nice :3

  • Great work!

  • Fucking sex.

  • I loled at Kate being hit by the axe and Prue being trampled by the huge mob lol.

  • So wait....did Gorey animate it all or did you?

'Cause the thing with the Toilet (Mr. Potty) was kind of a WTF moment (what does it have to do with swallowing tacks???)

  • @AkiraTakahara I animated it all, but the toliet was added as I was trying to think of a painful way to relieve the tacks from out of the body. it's not a very good joke but it was all I could come up with haha

  • @him6661 What you did was you worked with the existing animation/drawings.

  • @AkiraTakahara

USE YOUR IMAGINATION, PLZ. it's got something to doo-doo with it.

  • @icebatski

    Hurrhurr

  • Mwahahahahahaha I love this...

  • Wickedly Awesome! :D I love it<3

  • Earnest, George, Prue, and Quintin were absolutely hysterical!!!

  • fantabulous. great job.

  • Excellent work! It kind of feels like "The Gashlycrumb Tinies", as done by Terry Gilliam (Monty Python).

Some of the sequences were laugh-out-loud funny, esp. Victor being squashed not once, but twice by the train. XD Yorick's demise made me LOL too.

  • Now this is what i call Morbid Humor.

  • Brilliant. I think Edward Gorey would have loved it. Happy Birthday Mr. Gorey...

  • this remind any one else of the song "a gorey demise" by creature feature

  • very monty pythonish. i love it

  • Comment removed

  • I LIKE IT!

    Prue is the best one

  • I've always loved this 'poem'. The animation is quite clever, nut I think some of the attempts at humour get in the way of the macabre original. Still, well done in many respects.

  • I loved Clara when she said "damn that wasn't supposed to happen" lol

  • Kinda Creeps Me Out but its Cool (:

I Only know of it because my english teacher has each page from the book laminated and hungup on his wall.

N is for Neville, Who died of Ennui.

the only reason i knew what that word meant was because of this (:

Haha, his last name is Gorey,

and so i guess he's like

    'thee Addams Family'..

funny how things workout like that sometimes,....

  • Awesome job.. I think Gorey would have loved it. You kept his sense of humor intact.

  • This is excellently made, I love the voices

  • As tSIX put it, this is really MATT-astic !!!!!

Although there are many YT-videos for the 'tinies', you created the ultimate version to which any other has to stand comparison.

Even if I shouldn't accentuate one single letter, but you killed me with Victor, when the train came a second time :)

Each second of your work was worth the effort. Brilliant, hats off for you ...

  • Brilliant!

  • Wow! Brilliant work!

  • Found this while searching for the original animation from around the early 80's that sometimes showed during "Mystery!". Freaked me out as a kid but I can't find it anywhere...

  • Brilliant.

  • now thats scary

  • that....was....fucking....Mattastic!!!XD!!!!

  • This is absoulutley amazing. I love it lots.

The first time I heard of Edward Gorey was when I bought a tin lunchbox at the dollor store, thinking it was cute (and evil XD). I've become a fan now. :3

    Great work! <3

  • Really great.

  • I love it!

  • pretty disturbing

  • reminds me of Tim Burton. good job.

  • Omg who would every read this to there kid.....well I guess if your really angery and is like " C'mere Little Johnny , I WaNNA SCAR YOU FOR FREAKIN LIFE!"

  • I always thought fits referred to a seizure

  • It does, but this is funnier.

  • oh my. O.o

  • I LOVE IT! It has a weird python-esque feeling towards it

  • what the fuck!?!?

  • This is quite good. Personally, I would love to hear a narrator with an appropriately morbid voice reading the a-z while the animation plays. But great job here.

  • rofl. nice job. i have the book and i'm planning on reading it to my future children ^_^

  • love it!

  • O .O

    Dean Worthy 821

  • sOOO many ways to die, soo many ways to become enlightened.

  • ha fucking funny

  • lol i loved it

  • u jsut reuined the scaryness off the book

  • i saw it on myspace and i laughed on a emo girls page

  • I was intreged by the book, and thought it cute, but putting it to words and moving pictures, I do see the morbidness,. I know this had to have taken alot of time, thank you for this. I shall show everyone I know.

  • I thought some of those were really funny, though they shouldn't have been, but the Axe and a few others kind of upset me.

  • that was done pretty well and seamlessly with the originals, but honestly, i like the simplicity and mystery to not seeing what's implied. it was a little cheesy in parts.

    love gorey!

  • EXCELLENT!
