Im only 20 years old and this is one of my favorite songs.. If my friends heard me listening to this i would get flak like crazy.. But they can listen to their horrible mainstream music. I'll keep my soft cell thank you.
@Zachbro39 I was around 15 when this was released, I couldnt stand Soft Cell and hated everything about them! Funny now though, I cant get enough of this track. Say Hello, Wave Goodbye is another top tune.
@D000BY Haha for some reason i always rember hearing this song and flock of seaguls "I ran." Along with Sweet dreams from Eurythmics. Its so reminiscent of my younger days haha. And Say hello wave goodbye is deffinetly a good one.
Reminds me of me as a young man. This was a hit back then (81?) at this popular club here in Chicago which incredibly enough IS STILL THERE! Neo's. Anyone remember it? I can still recall as if it were yesterday going there during hot steamy summer Chicago nights and going into the nice cool A/C, grabbing a rum and coke (my favorite then) and dancing the night away with my friends. Those were the days...
This song was way ahead of it's time. When I found out that it was from 1981 i couldn't believe it. I always thought that this song was from the 90's. Anyways great song. I first heard it in 1997.
I heard this song today at around 6 AM, completely dark, as I was driving fast down an empty street; it was very fitting; when I got home I looked it up.
To all you people who say you never hear this version on the radio: This is the ONLY one I hear on the radio. I never hear the short one. Then again, this could be because where I live there's about four 80s radio stations. They all play extended versions of everything.
love this version of the song, i can watch it on youtube, rarely radio stations play this version because it's a full nine minutes, but this version is definitely the best!!!
fond memories, this cut and many more at the premier psychadelic subteranian club-"the groovey cellar" burlington arcade london.bless their pointed little heads!
I remember this in the clubs when the transition between the two songs came, the entire building would shake. Everyone loved this song, totally hypnotic.
Did anyone see the movie "Cone Heads" where the daughter and one of her friends are singing this song in the car - Badly? That's all I can think of when I hear this great tune!!
@jwdub75 This song is bloody older than those two daft-warkers this ole tune would kick their stuffs ass anyday happy XXXth tainted love may those two get attacked by a pack of "SEX DWARFS"!!!
@jwdub75 Probably has something to do with the fact that this song came out in 1981, This song was uploaded in 2007, and Lady Gaga and Bieber's albums have both come out since then. If the internet existed and was accessible in 1981 as it is today, it would likely have over 300mil votes.
@jwdub75 because not everyone has our taste of music. I am happy to live in a society where people can choose what they want to hear, and apparently more people want to hear those types of music more than these (not including justin bieber, since most of his views are from people who don't like hime, but thats an exception). Views are not a representation of how good something is, but of how many people want to see it. if you want to know how good something is, look at the like bar, not views.
@abagail4me-- Ahhh, sweetheart; Neo Romantic is the correct term and spelling. Neo means "new". Late 1970's , early 80's post punk era. Puffed up hair, puffy white shirts, and brocade jackets, etc. Nothing worse than correcting someone when you're wrong, "dude".
This is the BEST sound of any posting on here! This is how I remember it in the clubs, and when it came on, the floor would be absolutely packed. A HUGE hit at the time. And it still sounds SO amazing, thanks for posting!!!! The so-called neo-romantic era.
@quadralerium I have several times in the past blasted this out of my dad's huge old stereo speakers to the point where it can be heard through the whole house (and possibly the whole neighborhood)! Sounds great, and like you said, this particular video is as close as you can get to raw hq digital audio on youtube.
It makes me laugh when people call their decade's music shitty because they're stupid and only look on the radio. There are TONS of great artists out there .
I still remember the first time I heard this song back in '82...was watching "The Beast Must Die" on a lazy saturday afternoon and this was playing in the background on the kitchen radio...forever linked into my memory til the day I die -
