  • Too big toot fail !

I saw them in Brussels a few days later after that gig for the french TV...

What a band ! The most violent in rock'and roll history, I think.

  • Exce-fuckin-lent ! One of my favourite all-time bands ever! Great performance all round. I couldn't help but notice how busy Jet Black was on the drums. Wicked playing!

  • Great!

  • like the bit when JJ throws the water into the crowd

  • FIRST SEEN THIS BAND CITY HALLS CANDLERIGGS GLASGOW 1977

    MY LIFE CHANGED THAT NIGHT

  • Oh well, that happened many years after this great performance. Matters came to a head in 1990, but the seeds of dissatisfaction spawned sometime before then.

There was always some tension between Hugh and JJ, both in personal and artistic ways. Just read Hugh's bio called "A Multitude Of Sins" and you'll know more about that.

  • @Hwral It's my view that Hugh felt intimidated by JJ. There's a reference in Hugh's book about an incident where JJ physically attacked him and is referenced again by both in David Buckleys book, "No Mercy". I reckon Hugh had had enough of JJ's volatile temperament and decided to leave. Although he makes no mention of this in his book it's clear to me that was the primary reason he quit. A pity they couldn't work things out. The Stranglers with Hugh involved were brilliant.

  • brilliant...what happened, why fall out n stuff?

  • just mint, cannot be beaten, consummate playing esp by jjb.

  • Gotta love Hugh's guitar playing and solos - no gaudy effects pedals, just cool notes, served up raw and edgy

  • @jimioutback Except the distortion, and delay...

  • @Lastaccountgothacked There doesn't appear to be any distortion and delay on the solo of this version of Hangin' Around. Quite a clean sound in fact. Should have been louder in my view.

  • @strangled09

surely not, why should i, you get better through life with a little hypocricy and flattering ))

  • We are now in the Realm of the Stranglers . A Realm like no other .

  • Greatest of all rock songs.

  • i bought this Paris dvd off car boot for a £1 what a bargain

  • Awesome vid thanks for posting...as good as the studio version, for sure. Too bad about the credits at the end....

  • Top mark for coming up with these vids by the way!

  • Great version

  • He spits that fuckin' song out so good !

  • the way cornwell sings this really makes me wanna smash him in the mug! --- why just can´t he do it normally?

he did that to some other songs, too, -- nevertheless, the stranglers concert i saw in 88 was the best live act i ever witnessed

  • What are you talking about? Cornwell always sang it like this live. He liked to put some feeling and expression into his singing - which is what live music is all about. If you want to hear it the same way every time just listen to records and don't bother going to gigs.

  • still hanging around
