@jambolli Wrong! The Forerunners created 12 to destroy everything but the flood (their food). The forerunners contained some in library's and shield worlds, as seen in the games. Some of them broke out, like the ones on delta HALO, creating a gravemind. Get your facts straight.
@Mikturok117 acually the rings were created to destroy the flood but one single flood surve the rings AFTER they were activated. The rrings are all the way throught the galaxy and there is some stories that sugest further as well.
@Jambolli 12 Halos were made to destroy all organic except those held on shield worlds like The Ark and Onyx and stuff. 5 of them were used my Mendicant Bias in an assault on the Forerunner home world which resulted in it's destruction (hence there are only 7 Halos in the games.). Shortly afterwards, in coordination with the Flood, Mendicant Bias led over 5 million Forerunner battleships in an attack on the Maginot sphere which was destroyed. Forerunner knew they were screwed. Funnily enough, the Humans had developed a cure to the Flood plague but in their anger and hate for the Forerunner, they destroyed it. CONTINUED...

To be honest, I was kind of disappointed with Halo: Reach in some ways. It just didn't have the feel that Halo 3 had, and I think if you guys think about it, you'll know what I'm talking about. The storyline to Halo 3 was just so much better, and the soundtrack too (especially). Don't get me wrong, Halo: Reach is a fantastic game, I just wish the campaign had the same feel as H3. Anyone agree?
No Gaming franchise has ever truly deserved the tile of "Epic" save for Halo. It is the only game that conjures larger than life images with just it's music alone.
I sincerely hope this plays when the world does end, whether is happens now or in the future, but when it does, such a event deserves nothing but the greatest music to herald it into the present.

@deuceyboy96 the books series explains everything, I felt the same way but after reading the books 95% of my questions were answered, and the Halo animated movie explains a lot about the forerunners
To understand pre-Halo, read Contact Harvest and Fall of Reach. To understand Halo 1, but The Flood. There's another pre-Halo book called Cole Protocol which I havn't read. There are a few other Halo novels but to understand the setting, read those first three I mentioned.

@deuceyboy96, i can sum it up. Humanity was attacked at Harvest by a brute ship (forgot name) while they were looking for relics. Humanity's only victories were on the ground, in space they lost at a rate of one cov ship for every 4 of theirs. One by one, the outer colanies were massacured, until only Reach, Earth, and several other colanies remained. When reach was mostly glasses, leaving only he Piller Of Autuem was left, where it fled to a random location to start halo 1. go to halopedia.

@merchent343 accually, the war was started when a jackel ship attacked a UNSC ship near Harvest space, and then a large fleet of covenant ships suddenly attacked Harvest cutting UNSC communication with Harvest. After the planet was glassed the UNSC reseaved a message from the prophet of truth saying "Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument!" and thus begins the human-covenant war. I hope that cleared some things up for everyone. Message me for any more information.

In the year 2552, the Pillar of Autumn has just exited slipspace jump onto a random location. The location was in fact Instillation 04, one of the Halo rings. The covenant (enemies of the humans and a combination of several alien races) have found the Autumn and initiated an attack on the vessel. Less than a quarter of the Marines on board made it out. Spartan 117 was one of those humans.

The Chief and the other marines rescued the captain from the Covenant cruiser Truth and Reconcilliation. Of course, they left with special data about the ring.

With the map, he also learned were Halo's main launch center was. There he travelled and liberated the center. He implanted Cortana into the mainframe after she told him of a distress signal sent by Captain Keyes. In the boggy swamps of Shal' Kohleen', the spartan found more than he bargained for. The parasite species known as The Flood.

The monitor of the ring, 343 guilty spark, teleported the spartan to the ancient realm of The Library. This is where the device needed to activate the ring, The index, was located. Unfortunately, the flood was located there as well. Having barely survived the fight, Spartan 117 was the teleported with the index in hand, back to the control room where a AI construct was waiting with rage.
@morganzy98 Cortana explained that the monitor had used him. The ring wipes out the food source of the flood, not the flood itself. Any thing with a mind, or a sentient piece of life was food. The ring would wipe out basically all life. The flood would starve to death. 343 guilty spark, in a fit of rage, journeyed towards the crashed Pillar of Autumn, leaving his robotic guards and the flood, along with the covenant to deal with the Spartan. Now he had to destroy generators to prevent buy time.
@morganzy98 The spartan destroyed several generators, which then halted the firing of the ring for now. Then had cortana picked up another signal from the captain. Just one problem. He was on board the Truth and Reconciliation and the ship was overun with flood. After braving more swamps, he reached the captain, only to find that the flood had begun the process of turning the captain into the gravemind. The hive mind for the flood. The spartan then ended the captains suffering.
@morganzy98 He retrieved the Pillar of Autumns pass key. The spartan had intended to detonate the Pillar of Autumns reactors, and would produce a Thermo-bombaric explosion which would result in destroying the ring. This was only possible with the pass key. After a long journey, the spartan reached the Autumn and met the monitor, trying with all his efforts to stop their plan. The spartan destroyed the reactor and then ensued in a warthog to reach the hangar and save himself.
@morganzy98 The spartan reached the hangar, with a few spare seconds, left in a UNSC Longsword fighter and the Autumn detonated, ripping the ring apart and destroying the threat of the flood. The spartan cut off the engines to save on fuel, and drifted among space in wait of rescue. With cortana saying its over. Master Chief (spartan 117) replied with "No. I think were are just getting started". And then teased the gamer by taking of his helmet, but then the camera shifting away.

I sincerely hope this plays when the world does end, whether is happens now or in the future, but when it does, such a event deserves nothing but the greatest music to herald it into the present.

ppl if halo was real im pretty sure our whole planet would be dea as halo takes place in the future and our technology is even less advanced now compared to the covenant plus the covenant have killed a lot mre ppl than the population of earth, atleast thats whats the most likely scenario

@thecopykidofthestarz You should be happy Bungie isn't going to sit there and milk the Halo franchise! But now Microsoft is taking over production of future Halo games, so there still will be more Halo games being released. I don't think they will be very good, though.

To understand pre-Halo, read Contact Harvest and Fall of Reach. To understand Halo 1, but The Flood. There's another pre-Halo book called Cole Protocol which I havn't read. There are a few other Halo novels but to understand the setting, read those first three I mentioned.

the humans where attacked by the Elites cause they where told to look for the halo rings, in there search they attack and kill thousands of humans and destroy alot or earths colonie's (halo wars) halo ODST takes palce somehwere along halo 3, long story short the Elites killd the humans cause they where told to
then the Elites rebeld and join the humans after they realize the great journy was a fake so its like a civil war between the covaneant and the humans

@deuceyboy96, i can sum it up. Humanity was attacked at Harvest by a brute ship (forgot name) while they were looking for relics. Humanity's only victories were on the ground, in space they lost at a rate of one cov ship for every 4 of theirs. One by one, the outer colanies were massacured, until only Reach, Earth, and several other colanies remained. When reach was mostly glasses, leaving only he Piller Of Autuem was left, where it fled to a random location to start halo 1. go to halopedia.

I can't believe I forgot!! The battle of the Unamed Star System!! It is more commonly know as "the package" in Halo:Legends,which is canonical.It is a battle in space, taking place in and against covenant ships!! Omg I know a lot of useless knowledge, but i cant believe i forgot an awesome piece! It ends with the "Packaged" retrieved and only one dead. You dont mess with the chief. Even in space ur not safe!

@merchent343 accually, the war was started when a jackel ship attacked a UNSC ship near Harvest space, and then a large fleet of covenant ships suddenly attacked Harvest cutting UNSC communication with Harvest. After the planet was glassed the UNSC reseaved a message from the prophet of truth saying "Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument!" and thus begins the human-covenant war. I hope that cleared some things up for everyone. Message me for any more information.

@banditblade4, i know all of this. halo contact harvest. only in fall of reach it says that when the UNSC sent in a fleet to investigate, they were attacked and a shangheli commander said that to them.

In the year 2552, the Pillar of Autumn has just exited slipspace jump onto a random location. The location was in fact Instillation 04, one of the Halo rings. The covenant (enemies of the humans and a combination of several alien races) have found the Autumn and initiated an attack on the vessel. Less than a quarter of the Marines on board made it out. Spartan 117 was one of those humans.

@deuceyboy96 The spartan and some marines began to enter the atmosphere of the ring and the crew except Spartan 117 died on impact. For the next several hours (with the help of the AI construct Cortana) Chief rescued several other suvivors. The Autumn crashed on the ring on an unknown location and the Captain was captured by the covenant. The Chief and the other marines rescued the captain from the Covenant cruiser Truth and Reconcilliation. Of course, they left with special data about the ring.

@deuceyboy96 The silent cortagropher is a detailed map of the Ring. The spartan reached the cortagropher to learn of its deadly secret. The ring is a weapon. With the map, he also learned were Halo's main launch center was. There he travelled and liberated the center. He implanted Cortana into the mainframe after she told him of a distress signal sent by Captain Keyes. In the boggy swamps of Shal' Kohleen', the spartan found more than he bargained for. The parasite species known as The Flood.

@morganzy98 Spartan 117 fought back the flood and escaped the forerunner construct without the captain. The monitor of the ring, 343 guilty spark, teleported the spartan to the ancient realm of The Library. This is where the device needed to activate the ring, The index, was located. Unfortunately, the flood was located there as well. Having barely survived the fight, Spartan 117 was the teleported with the index in hand, back to the control room where a AI construct was waiting with rage.

@morganzy98 Cortana explained that the monitor had used him. The ring wipes out the food source of the flood, not the flood itself. Any thing with a mind, or a sentient piece of life was food. The ring would wipe out basically all life. The flood would starve to death. 343 guilty spark, in a fit of rage, journeyed towards the crashed Pillar of Autumn, leaving his robotic guards and the flood, along with the covenant to deal with the Spartan. Now he had to destroy generators to prevent buy time.

@morganzy98 The spartan destroyed several generators, which then halted the firing of the ring for now. Then had cortana picked up another signal from the captain. Just one problem. He was on board the Truth and Reconciliation and the ship was overun with flood. After braving more swamps, he reached the captain, only to find that the flood had begun the process of turning the captain into the gravemind. The hive mind for the flood. The spartan then ended the captains suffering.

@morganzy98 He retrieved the Pillar of Autumns pass key. The spartan had intended to detonate the Pillar of Autumns reactors, and would produce a Thermo-bombaric explosion which would result in destroying the ring. This was only possible with the pass key. After a long journey, the spartan reached the Autumn and met the monitor, trying with all his efforts to stop their plan. The spartan destroyed the reactor and then ensued in a warthog to reach the hangar and save himself.

@morganzy98 The spartan reached the hangar, with a few spare seconds, left in a UNSC Longsword fighter and the Autumn detonated, ripping the ring apart and destroying the threat of the flood. The spartan cut off the engines to save on fuel, and drifted among space in wait of rescue. With cortana saying its over. Master Chief (spartan 117) replied with "No. I think were are just getting started". And then teased the gamer by taking of his helmet, but then the camera shifting away.
