  • Paul

Your music is classic but your words and production show talent in time. You do not live in captivity - but you know that. My greatest passion was music. I gave it to my boys. And I love your talent and music. Best wishes for 2012 mate

    Thanks Paul

  • A hidden treasure of a song. Love it

  • Apparently i heard Steph was offered a spot in Courtney Love's band Hole

  • Does any one know of a good tab of this song online ? Would appreciate your nuts forever

  • the 8 people who dislike need to fuck right off lol

  • Thank you

  • Hate to sound emo but this song defines me and my problems.

  • Lead singer's my cousin! :) Miss him since he moved to Australia from Ireland! He's such an inspiration <3

  • @TheLouMalone You're very lucky ;)

  • great song, great band, great lyricist.

  • I was lucky enough to realise how good SFK was about a decade ago and went to four small venue concerts that I'll never forget. Their music still sends a shiver down my spine.

  • WHAT ARE THEY RUNNING FROM!? DAMN THE SUSPENSE! I love this song though...

  • Aren't they just so freaking great? Rhetorical question folks, of course they are great, makes me feel so entirely untalented listening to their songs lol

  • Not sure i understand it entirely, But damn if i don't like the song.

  • awesome song, band so underatted ihear ya paul demons, fallen angels mate &lucifer control this excistence for now!but there is something else !!!peace dazzao

  • I love SFK so much. Paul Dempsey!!

  • this is better than all other popular post-grunge bands out there are still making music

  • 5 people were eaten by the monsters.

  • And the monsters looked like man, and walked among us, yet they were not us. they sought to control us, to keep us as slaves, and they invented things that would bind mortal man, and he turned to be as sheep they fed upon, and we live as such to this day, and forever more. Don't live with Apathy, fight the Shackles which bind you to all these lies and demeanor.

  • @deankyrwood man i dont know any aust idol winners. i dont watch commercial tv. just abc... the only one i know is lisa mitchell and she didnt even win. and thats cos of the wonderful programming on triple j :)

  • Life changing tune. Thanks Paul for SFK.

  • it is kind of embarrasing for everyone that is abusing cgedwards3369 (eg. stephoccor1990) because if you actually were capable of reading you would realise that he is deriding "shit-pop" like what is produced by australian idol; he agrees that something for kate are good. so yeah, definitely reflects badly on you when you get angry at someone who shares your sentiments haha

  • hehehehehehe! am on the giggle at edwards' comment cause thats what it deserves! How wrong can one eddie be, hmmm? What is so appealing about SFK is not only their excellent Songwriting skills and Musical Talent, but also, that they aren't amongst the mainstream radio blurb. SFK are apart of the other side of Oz Music which doesn't allow their music to be manipulated by corporate cronies. So Eddie.......... Chill out Big Fella, get off the Couch and go see some live Aussie Music!

  • sound better every time i hear this... and top shelf lyrics...

  • Why cant i find one clear crisp video of Electricity anywhere but youku ! ????? SFK are uo there with You Am I and many others

  • AWESOME BAND&DIDNOT GET THE CREDIT THEY DESERVED!!MAYBE THEY DIDNT WORSHIP SATAN!!!!PEACE DAZZAO

  • Better than average

  • In 20 years time Echolalia will probably be listed in some sort of classic Aussie albums. SFK were bloody great group who never got the credit they deserved!!!

  • this is a good song!

  • He looks like an old Justin Beiber.

  • *Obligatory Justin Beiber comment*

  • God, the late 90's and early 00's were just awesome for Australian rock.

  • hanging upside down from the overpass, waiting to discover something about the world, i couldn't get with the program, i couldn't listen to them, it was like trying to think in reverse.

    <3

and i've heard nothing more beautiful or more apt since.

  • his voice sounds so much like hunters and collectors song cut

  • Were all not that bad!

  • trying to be 20000 years younger so i could excuse myself from human kind. heavy shit man

  • Sorry to all SFK fans (like myself) for any misinterpretation that you may have made about my comments. SFK is the exact opposite of the 'tweeny, soul-less, advertorial-driven shit-pop...etc' that I was talking about. I was commenting on a comment made by someone else, but you probably all knew that...except for @LetBulletsRain.

  • @LetBulletsRain - read the comment @Deankrwood. I was commenting on that you git. I wasn't saying that stuff about Monsters. I'm also sorry that I might have used a word or two that has more that three syllables. I thought SFK fans would understand, but it seems that there may be a dipshit amongst us.

  • @cgedwards3369 Sorry. I put the video up. I didn't realise it was @ anybody, since it obviously doesn't come up in the email when you write something insulting to another person on my video's page. Gfy, buddy.

  • @cgedwards3369

This song came out in 2001. To my knowledge it wasn't even streamed on mainstream radio. What nerve have you got commenting on this video? To look superior? Take your psuedo-intellectual bullshit elsewhere.

  • @LetBulletsRain

it got plenty of play on triple m in sydney. not much anywhere else though. brilliant song still to this day...

  • Comment removed

  • @cgedwards3369 Hahaha... You're a fag.

  • best i've heard for a while and good video ,never heard of band though

  • my FAVE, FAVE, FAVE part of this song is when the female voice is doing the harmonies 'shut me out..' at the end... Is it Stephanie?

  • @LidGorgeous no the female vocals at the end aren't Steph haha. She refuses to sing on anything, sticks to bass : )

  • Im Irish and I love the Aussie bands. Especially Something for Kate.

  • i love these guys!

  • paul dempsey has one of my favourite voices to listen to.

    it's so lovely. massive love

  • @z9gzag Im into more heavy stuff but unlike you I can appreciate a great song as well and this is an awesome song and you like all of those kinda new age bands that have absolutely ruined music forever so if you don't like a song then don't come on here and complain about it. @LetBulletsRain Thanks for the upload god some people are f wits aye haha

  • so lucky to of stumbled on this band on my travels through australia....

seems best music ive come across internationally is from australia...

john butler ... sfk... superjesus.... big love from Ireland

  • hey!

i recorded a cover of Something for Kate's 'mental note'...

please check it out if you have some spare time....

new album 'tangent - the origin' is Available Now!

  • This song reminds me of living in Melbourne, not the place to be,a shit hole in fact made up of monsters, thanks but no thanks.

  • @rraddles1 bitter,oh so bitter.

  • One of my favourite songs to listen to when I'm in a nostalgic mood... Has a very melancholic effect on me though, makes me think about how fast the last ten years have went by

  • he's sooo cute is Paul.

  • I discovered this band recently thanks to my girlfriend who's from Australia. Such a shame I hadn't heard them before as, growing up in the nineties and being a child of grunge, I love music like this. Echolalia is a f**king awesome album.

  • wow i got the 70000th view

kinda sad really it should have had alot more by now

    the band is so underated

  • This deserves a comment for the song lyric. " yeah, i was hiding away under water, waiting for distance and buying some time. trying to be 200,000 years younger so i could excuse myself from human kind." and on the 3dimensions song with, "your not the first to think that everything has been thought before.

  • Brilliant.

  • The chorus has a nice rhythm, and it flows well.. I like it.

  • these guys are depressing fuckers

  • Simply superb.

One of the greatest Aussie bands ever 4 mine, right up there with Midnight Oil, the lyrics of this song are wonderous, a work of genius.

Never more topical than today, as mental illness flourishes unrecognised and unaddresed, like the black plague, through our population. Are YOU listening KEVIN?

  • I love Something For Kate. Paul Dempsey is a god. One query though, must every film clip be in slow motion? Scan through others, you'll see what I mean.

  • SFK needs more love <333. Incredibly underrated, but they're still my favourite band ever.

  • @IdrilCelebrindal01 I'm from the U.K. and i reckon SFK could wipe the floor with the majority of british acts no sweat. Is THAT international enough for ya? :)

  • Comment removed

  • this film clip is a lot like de ja vu... just sayin. but they both great.

i also think its gret that paul dempsey is nominated for an aria

  • i guess u could say u had a case of 'deja vu' watching this clip then

  • hahah, lame but nice call. :L :P

  • Definately my favorite S4K song.

I gotta live version, not best quality, but check it out if ya wanna. From Gold Coast BDO.

  • SFK is so good... shuld hav gone international

  • @gemmi1994 well I'm from Spain and I love this, counts as international? ;)

  • @gemmi1994 I am glad they did not so we get to see them more here in Australia. Although, I do not feel fame would change them in any way as they are all very nice people to talk to.

  • Yet another aussie band that should be classed as one of the best..Just like "The Badloves"

.Ask the majority of the population, they won't know who either of them are...its a joke ...Ask them to name 3 australian idol winners and grrr.......

  • ahh so true! i hate aus idol so freaking much! why is it more popular then good music?!?

  • @deankyrwood Most Gen Y and younger Gen X aussies should have at least heard of SFK...

  • "and i *WILL NOT* slide into apathy"

"and i *WILL NOT* die in captivity"

    ...

"but these monsters follow me round.."

    * = edit

    Fuck You Monsters

  • they should of been the biggest band in aus.

  • SFK needs to come to the U.S.

  • i want these to release in the uk!!

  • you can get all their stuff here in the uk, been listening to them for a few years now, regularly wishing they'd come play in the uk

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll never fathom why SFK never broke out outside of Australia. They're one of the best bands I've ever heard in my life, their work has been consistently good and improving with each album. (Though Echolalia is by far my favourite.)

  • As good as they are they don't really have an image or musical style that caters to the majority of the population.

  • What's a "musical style that caters to (sic) the majority of the population"? Who has it? Michael Jackson?

  • I've been a massive fan since Echolalia when I was in secondary school and it kills me that they're not big here! I don't geddit.

  • My guess is that they never bothered much. When you think of the numerous Aussie acts that broke out throughout the years both in the UK and in the US, there's really no other reason they never achieved at least the level of success of, say, Silverchair.

  • mate i know how you feel though i am australian, take another band theory of a deadman or staind there massive in the states but will never play in aus even though theres a massive following for them.

  • omg i live in australia and love theory of a deadman too! i thought i was the only one!!!!

  • yes!

  • I think Paul D is a musical genius- so underrated in Australian music. This is a shame but at the same time i think their music speaks for itself. They've had a few 'hits' but have got nowhere near the commercial recognition their music deserves. Their songs have such amazing lyrics and melodies. I love this band.

  • @waz684 Dempsey musically reminds me of The Oils Jim Moginie. Chord patterns and structures. Lyrics are not so cause conscious though

  • It's so refreshing and nostalgic to listen to this again after a few years. Excellent.

  • If the video has been slowed down, how do you expect their lips to be in sync?

  • this band is awsum....wheres ur sister?

  • ha my sister is in this vid ohhhhh tis band is tehhhhhhhhhhhhhh besttttttt this is what real music is something for kate something that has real meaning behind the music best band evaaaa nd deserve much more than they have recieved

  • hehe - know a couple people in this vid.

  • BRILLIANT!!!!

  • im a metal fan but i absolutly love this song (Y)

  • Australian Day 2008

    Lovely concert with EVERMORE

  • Shut me out ( I was hiding away under water)..

  • uwielbiam! zespol raczej malo znany w polsce ale mi sie bardzo podoba:) a ta piosenka zwlaszcza!

  • Lyrics are amazing. Great song.

  • top shit. i dont want to be a container

  • it was played on video hits today...

  • the greatest band off all time.i hope they read this.the song writing with music production,no one comes close.something for kate;forever

  • Hey! where can i post a comment for this video?

  • Dam what a great line..'trying to be 200,000 years younger so I could excuse myself from humankind'..goose bumps from me anyway..love it

  • Echolalia is a masterpiece. One of the best aussie albums ever.

  • agree all the way. The official Fiction is also awesome.

  • the guy who does the audio preview on youtube sounds like stephen hawking. except it sounds like he has never been laid

  • this has to be the best SFK song

is this the original version of the song? cause i noticed on murmurs that it sounds different to this. suppose it proves the point that i should get echolalia

  • slightly different...little more acoustic in sound. this was the main radio version. the album one was different... i remember being slightly dissapointed when i got the album due to this :)

  • I love SFK!!

Did you know that the writer of The Book Thief and I Am the Messenger, Markus Zusak, who is of course an Aussie too, looooves SFK and listens to them when he writes his books? It's awesome!! That is how I heard of them, exchanging e-mails with him. <3 <3 Awesome!!!

I love their music! If I take a trip to Australia next summer as a student ambassador, I am aaabsolutely going to buy a CD or two of theirs there!!

  • i love markus zusak

the messenger was like the best book i ever read

actually might read it again thnx!!

  • i love the book theif, my fav book!

  • do you want one of us to send you one??? ive been trying to get 'myslovitz' from poland for a while....if only i knew someone who could just send the damn thing!!!!

  • triple j had a memorable competition a few years ago when listeners would send in their remixes of this song

  • Echolalia is an initial symptom of Autism many clever artists, scientists, inventors have and or have this.Check out you tube clip on what famous people have Autism. You will be suprised.Infact the person who invented the computer had it.Bill Gates has it.The list goes on and on

  • You are insane.

  • sorry spectrum

  • What exactly leads you to make such a leap, other than an arguably symbolic reference to a related symptom? A non-literal interpretation of the song could be that, seeing as Echolalia is a compulsion to mimic, it encapsualates the post-modern belief that nothing is new, ideas are recycled, and everything is imbued with pre-established meaning/codes of reference. Another symptom of autism is a difficulty in grasping figurative language, which Paul obviously has no trouble with as a lyricist.

  • Aspergers is on the autism specrum disorder, and echolalaia is a symptom of ASD.I suspect Paul may have this

  • Where the hell do you get this garbage from? Paul Dempsey has never been a heroine addict but he does suffer from depression. Wouldn't a more reasonable interpretation be that he is singing about depression, and being stuck in a rut? Dempsey was low, had writer's block, the band bought themselves a trip to Thailand where the album 'Echolalia' was written. And no, he doesn't have autism. You're thinking of the lead singer of The Vines, and he has ASPERGERS.

  • it'd be funny if paul did a liking to the white dragon... but im pretty sure clint stole his stash and then sold it for weed.

  • Does Paul Dempsey have autism?

  • didnt need a program when its time to stop ya stop or die, i choose life , it worked for me, good luck great song righton ^5

  • there's something honest about the expression on Paul Dempsey's face, almost humorous.

  • it took me a long time to find anything good about kate... but i'm glad i persisted now

  • excellent song! Loved these guys from way back

  • that is the kind of music that makes me want to get into a nice warm bathtub......and slit my wrists! totally morose. it would be hard to dance to now wouldnt it?

  • fantastic song... why haven't i heard this before??

  • album version much better. LOVE THIS BAND

  • Saw Paul solo at the Corner hotel in Richmond, Melbourne Australia. Fantastic

artist - love S4K and this is one of my fave

tracks - my all time fave S4K songs are Max Planck and Light At the End of The Tunnel

  • Paul Dempsey is just... Amazing.

    This song gives me chills.

  • great band , post what ya want, i say.

  • To answer your question jesseatkins123456... for me, it came at a time in my life that I was frightened of becoming 'a bastard with a ten page disclaimer' with due cause... I think if you live this song you can understand it.. if you haven't then you won't.

  • To me it sounds like the monsters represent depression - not wanting to "slide into apathy" and "die in captivity" to these monsters. However you intepret this song, its awesome. I love a song that many different people seem to relate to.

  • yeah.. its about heroin addiction... kinda plain when you think about it.

  • Paul Dempsey also does a really awesome duet with kate miller heidke. It's on youtube somewhere. Well worth a look at. Btw what meaning do most people take from this song?

  • I think the song represents Paul Dempsey's disallusionment with modern life, the 40-hour work week, the homogenisation of human existance and so on. I really identify with his desire not to be caged or tied down in living his life.

That's what I take from this song, anyway.

  • Love it!!!

    Waters

  • Great song, what more need be said.

  • Your opinion is void (because obviously you have no knowledge of the band or it's history)you are truly incapabable of appreciating music for what it is (degrading music because you believe that your opinion over-rides all those people who actually appreciate this song)You're right though, it is 90's rock (much better than 90's POP.) Oh, and another thing: use your SPACEBAR instead of "....." you beligerant moron.

  • Well Said!

  • You are a complete asswipe....u listen to corporate America rock, which is totally void of anything original and cutting edge..i pity losers like yourself.

  • if you dont like music like this you have extremely bad taste

  • Cool, thanks for posting this. Always loved this song.

  • Wonderful song, lyrics, film clip

  • definitely has a video... i remember seeing it... and i'm pretty sure it was actually off The Answer to Both Your Questions EP... reappeared on Dean Martin... ta anyway.

  • Ah. Sorry mate. It's pretty rare if it is out there somewhere. Cheers anyway.

  • has anyone got the video for 'subject to change'? Was one of the songs that defined my youth I guess... superb, superb track. their best by far. i remember first seeing it on Red in the late 90's, and it just had me hooked..

  • I don't think there is a video for subject to change. It's off the Q and A with Dean Martin, so it's a bit older than the new albums and therefore probably doesn't have a video. It's not on "A Diversion" and I haven't seen it on any CD's. Have a look around the internet, someone might have one.

  • Hell of old comments I''m replying to, but yeah, there was a filmclip for 'Subject to Change', it was played when they hosted Rage one time.

  • I wanna see what he sees................

  • one of the most chilling songs i've ever heard.

  • what a great song....what a great band.....what a great clip!!!!

  • Love this band!

Am i the only fan in the uk?!! lol

  • Not at all - I used to work with Paul's sister and she got me onto them - loved 'em ever since!!!!

  • thanks for posting! this video made me fall in love with SFK

  • excellent song

  • Somebody please post 3 dimensions!

  • If you can tell me how to get videos off DVD's then I'll post 3 dimensions. :)

  • Well, I can't, but if you could send me the vids I'd be forever greatful... :)

  • Fantastic!

  • great band... i love the voice of vocal....
