Your music is classic but your words and production show talent in time. You do not live in captivity - but you know that. My greatest passion was music. I gave it to my boys. And I love your talent and music. Best wishes for 2012 mate
I was lucky enough to realise how good SFK was about a decade ago and went to four small venue concerts that I'll never forget. Their music still sends a shiver down my spine.
Aren't they just so freaking great? Rhetorical question folks, of course they are great, makes me feel so entirely untalented listening to their songs lol
awesome song, band so underatted ihear ya paul demons, fallen angels mate &lucifer control this excistence for now!but there is something else !!!peace dazzao
And the monsters looked like man, and walked among us, yet they were not us. they sought to control us, to keep us as slaves, and they invented things that would bind mortal man, and he turned to be as sheep they fed upon, and we live as such to this day, and forever more. Don't live with Apathy, fight the Shackles which bind you to all these lies and demeanor.
@deankyrwood man i dont know any aust idol winners. i dont watch commercial tv. just abc... the only one i know is lisa mitchell and she didnt even win. and thats cos of the wonderful programming on triple j :)
it is kind of embarrasing for everyone that is abusing cgedwards3369 (eg. stephoccor1990) because if you actually were capable of reading you would realise that he is deriding "shit-pop" like what is produced by australian idol; he agrees that something for kate are good. so yeah, definitely reflects badly on you when you get angry at someone who shares your sentiments haha
hehehehehehe! am on the giggle at edwards' comment cause thats what it deserves! How wrong can one eddie be, hmmm? What is so appealing about SFK is not only their excellent Songwriting skills and Musical Talent, but also, that they aren't amongst the mainstream radio blurb. SFK are apart of the other side of Oz Music which doesn't allow their music to be manipulated by corporate cronies. So Eddie.......... Chill out Big Fella, get off the Couch and go see some live Aussie Music!
In 20 years time Echolalia will probably be listed in some sort of classic Aussie albums. SFK were bloody great group who never got the credit they deserved!!!

Sorry to all SFK fans (like myself) for any misinterpretation that you may have made about my comments. SFK is the exact opposite of the 'tweeny, soul-less, advertorial-driven shit-pop...etc' that I was talking about. I was commenting on a comment made by someone else, but you probably all knew that...except for @LetBulletsRain.
@LetBulletsRain - read the comment @Deankrwood. I was commenting on that you git. I wasn't saying that stuff about Monsters. I'm also sorry that I might have used a word or two that has more that three syllables. I thought SFK fans would understand, but it seems that there may be a dipshit amongst us.
@cgedwards3369 Sorry. I put the video up. I didn't realise it was @ anybody, since it obviously doesn't come up in the email when you write something insulting to another person on my video's page. Gfy, buddy.
@Deankrwood. Perfectly articulating Australia's tweeny, soul-less, advertorial-driven shit-pop that is infiltrating all radio that charges exorbitant fees for their lame advert financed playlists,
This song came out in 2001. To my knowledge it wasn't even streamed on mainstream radio. What nerve have you got commenting on this video? To look superior? Take your psuedo-intellectual bullshit elsewhere.
@z9gzag Im into more heavy stuff but unlike you I can appreciate a great song as well and this is an awesome song and you like all of those kinda new age bands that have absolutely ruined music forever so if you don't like a song then don't come on here and complain about it. @LetBulletsRain Thanks for the upload god some people are f wits aye haha
One of my favourite songs to listen to when I'm in a nostalgic mood... Has a very melancholic effect on me though, makes me think about how fast the last ten years have went by
I discovered this band recently thanks to my girlfriend who's from Australia. Such a shame I hadn't heard them before as, growing up in the nineties and being a child of grunge, I love music like this. Echolalia is a f**king awesome album.
This deserves a comment for the song lyric. " yeah, i was hiding away under water, waiting for distance and buying some time. trying to be 200,000 years younger so i could excuse myself from human kind." and on the 3dimensions song with, "your not the first to think that everything has been thought before.
One of the greatest Aussie bands ever 4 mine, right up there with Midnight Oil, the lyrics of this song are wonderous, a work of genius.
Never more topical than today, as mental illness flourishes unrecognised and unaddresed, like the black plague, through our population. Are YOU listening KEVIN?
I love Something For Kate. Paul Dempsey is a god. One query though, must every film clip be in slow motion? Scan through others, you'll see what I mean.
@IdrilCelebrindal01 I'm from the U.K. and i reckon SFK could wipe the floor with the majority of british acts no sweat. Is THAT international enough for ya? :)
@gemmi1994 I am glad they did not so we get to see them more here in Australia. Although, I do not feel fame would change them in any way as they are all very nice people to talk to.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll never fathom why SFK never broke out outside of Australia. They're one of the best bands I've ever heard in my life, their work has been consistently good and improving with each album. (Though Echolalia is by far my favourite.)
My guess is that they never bothered much. When you think of the numerous Aussie acts that broke out throughout the years both in the UK and in the US, there's really no other reason they never achieved at least the level of success of, say, Silverchair.
mate i know how you feel though i am australian, take another band theory of a deadman or staind there massive in the states but will never play in aus even though theres a massive following for them.
I think Paul D is a musical genius- so underrated in Australian music. This is a shame but at the same time i think their music speaks for itself. They've had a few 'hits' but have got nowhere near the commercial recognition their music deserves. Their songs have such amazing lyrics and melodies. I love this band.

Echolalia is an initial symptom of Autism many clever artists, scientists, inventors have and or have this.Check out you tube clip on what famous people have Autism. You will be suprised.Infact the person who invented the computer had it.Bill Gates has it.The list goes on and on
What exactly leads you to make such a leap, other than an arguably symbolic reference to a related symptom? A non-literal interpretation of the song could be that, seeing as Echolalia is a compulsion to mimic, it encapsualates the post-modern belief that nothing is new, ideas are recycled, and everything is imbued with pre-established meaning/codes of reference. Another symptom of autism is a difficulty in grasping figurative language, which Paul obviously has no trouble with as a lyricist.
Where the hell do you get this garbage from? Paul Dempsey has never been a heroine addict but he does suffer from depression. Wouldn't a more reasonable interpretation be that he is singing about depression, and being stuck in a rut? Dempsey was low, had writer's block, the band bought themselves a trip to Thailand where the album 'Echolalia' was written. And no, he doesn't have autism. You're thinking of the lead singer of The Vines, and he has ASPERGERS.
that is the kind of music that makes me want to get into a nice warm bathtub......and slit my wrists! totally morose. it would be hard to dance to now wouldnt it?
To answer your question jesseatkins123456... for me, it came at a time in my life that I was frightened of becoming 'a bastard with a ten page disclaimer' with due cause... I think if you live this song you can understand it.. if you haven't then you won't.
To me it sounds like the monsters represent depression - not wanting to "slide into apathy" and "die in captivity" to these monsters. However you intepret this song, its awesome. I love a song that many different people seem to relate to.
Paul Dempsey also does a really awesome duet with kate miller heidke. It's on youtube somewhere. Well worth a look at. Btw what meaning do most people take from this song?
I think the song represents Paul Dempsey's disallusionment with modern life, the 40-hour work week, the homogenisation of human existance and so on. I really identify with his desire not to be caged or tied down in living his life.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this sounds just like vertical horizon....in other words it sucks.....crappy pop rock with no balls......and lame hooks.....sounds like mid-90's American rock that got force fed down everyones throat......im more interested in bands that try new things.....i.g The Mars Volta, The Joggers, The Oranges Band, The Natural History....this is boring.
Your opinion is void (because obviously you have no knowledge of the band or it's history)you are truly incapabable of appreciating music for what it is (degrading music because you believe that your opinion over-rides all those people who actually appreciate this song)You're right though, it is 90's rock (much better than 90's POP.) Oh, and another thing: use your SPACEBAR instead of "....." you beligerant moron.
You are a complete asswipe....u listen to corporate America rock, which is totally void of anything original and cutting edge..i pity losers like yourself.
definitely has a video... i remember seeing it... and i'm pretty sure it was actually off The Answer to Both Your Questions EP... reappeared on Dean Martin... ta anyway.
has anyone got the video for 'subject to change'? Was one of the songs that defined my youth I guess... superb, superb track. their best by far. i remember first seeing it on Red in the late 90's, and it just had me hooked..
I don't think there is a video for subject to change. It's off the Q and A with Dean Martin, so it's a bit older than the new albums and therefore probably doesn't have a video. It's not on "A Diversion" and I haven't seen it on any CD's. Have a look around the internet, someone might have one.
Paul

Aspergers is on the autism specrum disorder, and echolalaia is a symptom of ASD.I suspect Paul may have this

You're thinking of the lead singer of The Vines, and he has ASPERGERS.

it'd be funny if paul did a liking to the white dragon... but im pretty sure clint stole his stash and then sold it for weed.

there's something honest about the expression on Paul Dempsey's face, almost humorous.

I love a song that many different people seem to relate to.

yeah.. its about heroin addiction... kinda plain when you think about it.

Paul Dempsey also does a really awesome duet with kate miller heidke. It's on youtube somewhere. Well worth a look at. Btw what meaning do most people take from this song?
jesseatkins123456 4 years ago
I think the song represents Paul Dempsey's disallusionment with modern life, the 40-hour work week, the homogenisation of human existance and so on. I really identify with his desire not to be caged or tied down in living his life.
That's what I take from this song, anyway.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this sounds just like vertical horizon....in other words it sucks.....crappy pop rock with no balls......and lame hooks.....sounds like mid-90's American rock that got force fed down everyones throat......im more interested in bands that try new things.....i.g The Mars Volta, The Joggers, The Oranges Band, The Natural History....this is boring.

Your opinion is void (because obviously you have no knowledge of the band or it's history)you are truly incapabable of appreciating music for what it is (degrading music because you believe that your opinion over-rides all those people who actually appreciate this song)You're right though, it is 90's rock (much better than 90's POP.) Oh, and another thing: use your SPACEBAR instead of "....." you beligerant moron.

has anyone got the video for 'subject to change'? Was one of the songs that defined my youth I guess... superb, superb track. their best by far. i remember first seeing it on Red in the late 90's, and it just had me hooked..
JDRA31 4 years ago
I don't think there is a video for subject to change. It's off the Q and A with Dean Martin, so it's a bit older than the new albums and therefore probably doesn't have a video. It's not on "A Diversion" and I haven't seen it on any CD's. Have a look around the internet, someone might have one.

Hell of old comments I''m replying to, but yeah, there was a filmclip for 'Subject to Change', it was played when they hosted Rage one time.
