  • Nov 6 (NS) Lawlessness on the rise - Dayasiri Jayasekera. “A situation has been created where a section of people closely connected to the government could escape from the clutches of the law after earning enormous amounts of money through illegal means. • Good people live shorter. Bharatha, a minister killed by another MP Duminda in Mulleriyawa Sri Lanka. Govt spoke-person Dallas Allahappruma said that the shooting incident that took place in the Mulleriyawa was a "wake up call" for the party. People wonder whether the government of Sri Lanka was sleeping when thugs were ruling the country despite continuous call by people, media and members of parliament to take preventive measures to stop ongoing crimes by underworld and political armed gangs?

  • People need government to maintain law and order in a consistent way. Country is free of terror. People want to replace expensive military escort for politicians by 5 police officers. Politicians are highly guarded themselves and intimidate, murder unarmed civilians. The law that was used to imprison General Sarath Fonseka should be applied to rest of government officials who involved in politics violating code of conduct or release General Fonseka as terrorists are freed, reinstate his ranks.

  • Oct 10 (Island) "It was around 3.30 p.m. that we arrived at the Walpola Junction. There was very little time left for the polling to finish. Bharatha Mahaththaya wanted to visit some of the polling booths before the end of the polling. Duminda Silva arrived in three Prado Jeeps. They stopped and parked their jeeps crossing our paths Duminda Silva carried a pistol as he got down from the Jeep, insulting everybody there as he walked forward. Then, Bharatha Mahattaya also got down from the Jeep.

  • Oct 10 (Island) both of them exchanged insults which was followed by Duminda Silva slapping Bharatha Mahattaya hard on his cheek kncking him to the ground. • Keep right when it is right put it right when it wrong. I support Mahinda Rajapaksa govt but not his poor governance. If "ayathana sangarahaya" (code of conduct for civil servant 3:46 says no politics for government servants, it should be respected by all. General Fonseka was imprisoned for his involvement in politics while on duty 7:04 but Def Secretary Gotabaya involved in politics as a government servant but brother president Rajapaksa take no actions. Is nt it hypocritic? double standards?

  • It is worth to publish the transcription of Dayasiri's speech in English but no journalist / newspaper cared to publish his speech. not even in Sinhala. that is irresponsibility and negligence of journalism, isnt it? All take blind eye ignoring what MP Dayasiri said in Sri Lanka parliament. Abuse, corruption and crimes are so deeply embedded in culture that society accept at every levels. what should have done was to probe on those issues by govt and journalists should digg them and follow up.

  • Well fair enough. This guy took too much time. The EXACT SAME THING happens here in Australia. If you take too much time to deliver your speech, and if you keep going you are suspended from parliament. What misleading title.

  • @Tilan123 Well I dont think interrupting or removal of MP was fair. It is even worse when such allegations were ignored by the government and representatives of people who were appointed to speak on behalf people and salaries are paid by public tax money, should seek solutions to problems. If law of the country is abused by anyone as legislators MPs are answerable to people in parliament. For that matter time is less important. Australian politicians wont behave like Sri Lankan politicians.

  • @NoEalamInSL No matter what they are talking about, there are acts where politicians can talk about a certain matter for a limited amount of time. The same thing goes on here at LEAST once a month (I see it on TV quite a lot). I don't see how people continue to criticize the Sri Lankan government when Sri Lanka is developing like it has never done before and got rid of the war. It's like people want Sri Lanka to look like a dump again. If there are rules, there are rules.

  • @Tilan123, We cant ignore politicians taking law into hands and abuse people by giving hopes of development. Government is commended for winning war and development but corruption, crimes, democracy and freedom of people cant be neglected at the cost of development. When right keep it right, when wrong put it right. Be fair without defending colour of your political party. I support Mahinda Rajapaksa govt but not his poor governance.

  • @NoEalamInSL Of course. Every country is corrupt. I admit that Sri Lanka is very corrupt. But isn't it ironic that people care about corruption most when a government is doing better than it ever has?

  • @Tilan123, I support Mahinda Rajapaksa government but not his poor governance, corruption, crimes. If book says no politics for government servants it should be respected by all. General Fonseka was imprisoned for his involvement in politics while on duty 7:04 but Def Secretary Gotabaya involved in politics as a government servant but brother president Rajapaksa take no actions.
