The part of the song that goes, "Every day I keep pushing; keep trying to move forward, but something is driving me ooohh oooh back.." Is how I feel sometimes when I'm trying so hard and everything goes all wrong. Does anyone know who wrote Work Me Lord? It's so realistic.
@zdiversable Per Wikipedia: Nick "The Greek" Gravenites and Gravy, is a blues, rock and folk singer–songwriter, and is best known for his work w/ Janis Joplin, Mike Bloomfield & several influential bands springing from the 60s & 70s.
"Work Me, Lord" is a song from Janis Joplin's 'I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! ' album, her first after departing the Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was a part of Joplin's set at Woodstock Festival in 1969. Written for Janis by Nick.
God I love this sooooong!!! And Janice sings it like she really feels the words. In real life she never found love and took drugs because of her lonliness. It makes me cry for her. She died too soon. Whenever I listen to this song, I say softly, "Poor Janice, you just didn't stick around long enough to find that special someone and God did work you. Your music will live forever!"
How cute in the beginning when she asks if everyone is ok? "Staying stoned? Got enough water and a place to sleep?" An endearing squeak of laughter and she rips the lid off that amazing voice. (smile)
If you think this is a great song you should look up Sumertime by Janis here on youtube it will give you true shivers up and down your spine over and over
Il discorso iniziale è una bomba!!! Sto facendo una tesina su di lei : ) Mi manca, la sua voce è una delle poche che mi fa vibrare letteralmente l'anima!
@armjoint1 You're right... but it was her own choice and her way of life. So yes - I'm sorry about she has died so young and that she couldn't do more music but... as I said, it was her way of life and I think this way of life (including drugs) made her able to do such a good music...
I can appreciate Janis but can't listen to her for an extended amount of time - just too much. By the end of this song I was not relaxed or "getting it". legend? maybe - if a great singer = from the heart then what if I scream from the heart? just trying to keep it real, not everyone has to love Janis because everyone says they do...ye ol bandwagon.

You'll never get back that time. It was the phantastic time. And Janis was the best of her genre. She lived her songs, her songs were here live, her live was her songs
Having to wait 10 hours to go onstage she was pretty loaded by the time she did this. Janis you never failed us with your beautiful, haunting voice and cheerful laugh.....I am so sorry we failed you. You deserved so much better. Thank you....your love will endure all things.
Loved that cackle she had. Didn't see her when I went to Woodstock. But did see a concert after she left Big Brother and the Holding Company. She was an electric performer.
Love that cackle she had. Didn't see her when I was at Woodstock. I did hear her at a concert after she left Big Brother and the Holding Company. She was an electric performer.
If we let go of her full tilt boogie or hard rock songs and we stop to hear her sing a Rodger's and Hart song like "Little Girl Blue", it is then that we marvel in her lyrical, sentimental Broadway tunes which are as lovely and polished as Ethel Merman or Joel Gray...Brava Diva Janis!
I can't listen to a note she ever sang without having tears come to my eyes. We were lucky to have her in this world for the time we did. God bless you Janis. I love you.

With those key changes, was she off even once with her scat vocals? A tonal genius, but even had she lived, her voice would have crashed. Ten more years, and she would have sounded like Tom Waits
Please dont you leave me, I feel so useless down here..With no one to loveeee Though Ive looked everywhere And I cant find me anybody to love To feel my care.."
