  • Honeycomb interface? it's just a collection of widgets and icons...

This is the real honeycomb UI:

    youtube.com/watch?v=2GE1lvRirIg

    youtube.com/watch?v=LFlDJdphyt4

  • BusinessWeek reports that Google will not be releasing the source code for Android Honeycomb 'for the foreseeable future.' Android lead Andy Rubin is quoted, stating that if Google were to release the source for Honeycomb, Google would be unable to prevent it from being installed on mobile phones and 'creating a really bad user experience

  • is this coming to galaxy tab ?

  • Does anyone know what the song that's used is called?

  • Honeycomb downright beats iOS. Honeycomb's widgets are specially designed to make use of the big screen space that tablets have, adding to its functionality, while the Apple simply dumps the only iOS (which was designed with Iphone in mind) into all its touchscreen devices. Sure, there are apps which are specially designed for the Ipad (so does honeycomb), but other than that, the home screen is almost the same as the Iphone. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a tablet?

  • check this:

  • I love how Google creates a version of Android specified just for tablets instead of Apple which just uses the same iOS it uses on all their devices.

  • @Anoush13 Having one version for all devices is IMHO a better solution. Besides Google already announced that they will eventually merge branches 3.x and 2.x together.

  • @poe8989 Tablets have existed for years! Don't think iPad is something new and fresh! iPad is just an over sized, HD version of the iPod Touch! That's not innovative at all! Sure Google made it to compete with the iPad, but atleast Google is trying innovative instead of the iPad!

And I would disagree with Apple being the standard and leader! I have a wonderful Sony VAIO with Windows 7 and I can say it's as good as any Mac, or better! I love my Android device over any iPhone!

  • I like Android it's sooooo dellliiiissssccccccccioooooooozzzzzzzz :D

Apple's can rot but a robot is fixable :D

  • @MrFantaX clever ;)

  • Apple iPad, that must hurt!!!

    VIVA ANDROID!!!

  • @atz1forever there silly apps on iPhones too. Ios is not Perfect.

  • what is this? can you get it on HTC Desire?

  • @azt1forever Your wrong. Because there is a new API for Honeycomb to run all android apps (older ones & existing ones) so shut up apple faggot. When that number beats that Ishit pad, you won't be laughing & you will regret buying that shit ishit tablet. Ignorant idiot. Steve Jobs is your gay idol.

  • OH REALLY WAIT UNTIL LATE 2011 & EARLY 2012. YOU WON'T BE LAUGHING APPLE IGNORANT FAGGOT. THERE'S A NEW ANDROID APP API FOR ANDROID HONEYCOMB THERE LETS RUN ANDROID APPS (EXISTING & OLDER) APPS ON THE HONEYCOMB TABLET. IGNORANT (NUMBERS TO YOU). IT'S ABOUT FUNCTIONALITY NOT JUST APPS. IGNORANT IDOT. @azt1forever

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP. THERES A NEW API FOR ANDROID 3.0 EXISTING ANDROID PHONE APPS & OLDER ONES ARE NOW OPTIMZED FOR HONEYCOMB. SHUT UP IGNORANT IDOT. @azt1forever

  • Android - Apple

    There problem solve :)

  • @2point6x4 I never liked the iPad when it introduced & came out. It wasn't the "coolest thing!" I never wanted one. I don't have one.

  • TRON

  • FUCKING TROLLS & FUCKING APPLE Faggots.

  • @biggerben2010 if not Apple you wouldn't see this video at all :p

  • WRONG. @ShadowriverUB

  • @biggerben2010 Oh i remember how apple haters was saying the idea of iPad is stupid.... now look on that video android have own tablet to and android fanboys love :p

  • IPad 2 is going to have 4.3. I saw 4.3 it is crap.

  • Everyone who thinks this is a copy of some other pad OS know: You are wrong! Honeycomb is unique, elegant and compatible pad OS with multiple features. I would like to get my hands on some pad with this OS.

  • a impressão de manusear um android é a mesma coisa de manusear um IOS melhorado

    ou seja...cópia

  • Honeycomb wins this round. :)

  • any of you droid fans seen some of the ipad specs? lol sry but apple wins this round.

  • @suicidalsmurf55 er no. Android beats iPad to the ground. IPad specs are shit & slow. Powerful Honeycomb ftw. Apple faggot.

  • @biggerben2010 lol like i said you havent if you say they are shit. go find some specs on the ipad TWO and come back and give me just ONE spec that android beats it in JUST ONE.

  • @suicidalsmurf55 Vice versa dude, name one spec that the iPad beats Android with. Cause the only one I see is a bigger app store, which is about to change.

  • Specs rarely have anything to do with performance. Honeycomb is bloated and sluggish on the Xoom. The iPad is faster and more responsive (scrolling, pinch/zooming) due in part to a highly optimized OS running on Apple's custom silicon.

  • @candyforchris I have both, I don't know wtf you're talking about. And the new ipad2 is just going to have minor updates.

  • Your iPad is a big ugly ipod touch with no webcam & no HD & crappy single core proccesor with pre installed farting app. Apple faggot. Sucking your Steve jobs penis candy. @candyforchris

  • @biggerben2010 Yeah but when the first GEN iPad came out You probably thought it was the COOLEST THING! and you wanted one, so you went and got one right?

  • Specs rarely have anything to do with performance. Honeycomb is bloated and sluggish on the Xoom. The iPad is faster and more responsive (inertial scrolling, pinch/zooming) due in part to a highly optimized OS running on Apple's custom silicon.

I've yet to see android run on anything without stuttering or seizing.

  • Shut up apple faggot. Your useless iPad. Don't have flash, it has 4.3 beta that is slow & buggy & unresponsive. Your piece out shit can't match Honeycomb. Honeycomb beats your useless shitty iPad. OK. Fag.@candyforchris

  • @techh10 *1989, GRiDPad

  • youtube.com/watch?v=pIS8Kann7QY Android 2.4 DOWNLOAD NEW + Tutorial :) No problem!

  • Apple, THIS is what a real tablet looks like. The iPad just got owned.

  • @ThugRangles first, I was only saying the truth... although this looks way cooler (dont get me wrong) but Apple is like a trend right now, so when the iPad 2nd gen comes with a camera, legit processor, possible retina display, a sd card slot, iPad is more likely to win.. srry android... but techies are outnumbered against the rest of the world.

  • @TheShadowstorm117 Ohhhh funny..Whatttttttt No wifi,no front camera..

    Whattttt max Storage 64Gb...

    Wattt No usb....

    OMG this is Crapp..

But no worries Apple fans, the release of Ipad 2 will come soon..

OHh sorry you wasted your money on the 1st one...:D

  • Ya the iPad is dead. For $800 this thing will fly off the shelves. People will line up at best buy for miles. Android os is awesome look at the cool clock on the screen and the weather. Man I can't take it anymore. The lag of the scroll. The choppiness of the pinch and zoom. Apple should just close the doors at 1 infinite loop. Give me a break. As apple goes, the industry goes.

  • Steve Jobs isn't an idiot, either. You don't get to be worth as much as he is by making stupid decisions, which is why his insistence on touting the iPhone/iPad as "amazing" devices is so puzzling. It's not even debatable that the both units can't stand on their own two feet when put up against anything Android. It's a bloodbath, actually. Jobs has to know it. You can't rely on loyal Apple customers forever. The future generations of techies are going to demand innovation and customization

  • This is the death of the iPad. Apple will never keep pace with Android unless they open their source code and let people create their own computing experience instead of forcing everyone to use their device the way Steve Jobs thinks the device should be used. Buh bye Apple.

  • ugly

  • I will buy the first tablet that comes out with this. (hoping for 7")

  • this is so cool... can't wait !!

  • 2 personos are dombasses!

  • @TheTrueTechCentury 1.) you said it yourself, the iPod touch is an iPhone without the phone and 3g. 2.) since android has hardware options, screen sizes vary, thus stretched apps 3.) time line of iPhone updates: 1st iPhone- introduced iOS, iPhone 3g- thinner, 3g, iPhone 3gs- same thing but faster, iPhone 4- rectangle, face time, retina display. that is all. 4.) android can focus on it's updates (i.e. 2.2, 2.3 etc.) because it lets everyone make hardware to run the platform

  • I think Apple will excel in the Design and the variety in Application, but Google will win in the performance and Open Source.

I think Google will win the competition. :) :) Viva Google :) :)

  • Android is THE FUTURE OF THE OPERATING SISTEMS ;)

    thumbs up

  • @emanuelshadys Agreed. I've always said I'll use Windows over Apple because at least windows doesn't patronise advanced users, but the moment Google hit the PC OS market, I'll dump Windows in a heartbeat.

  • I love it because the iPad is and will still be a 9.7 inch ipod touch. The Android Tablets will be their own breed with their own operating system, instead of a 7-10 inch android phone.

  • I love it because the iPad is and will still be a 9.7 inch ipod touch. The Android Tablets will be their own breed with their own operating system, instead of a 7-10 inch android phone... score!

  • already i can tell this is a piece of shit, even in the video you can tell that the browser scrolling isn't as smooth as iOS, the copy paste feature is a complete ripoff of Apples and it didn't look at as clean and good. The UI seems clunky and unnecessarily complicated, iPad is better in every way.

    *yawn*

Every time a company tries to create a huge product, people say its the "iPad/iPhone" killer, when what actually happens is that the product slowly dies itself ahahahahah fucking fail google

  • @Rockyroopam the apple products haven't made a huge jump since the day the iPhone came out. iOs is on iPhone, which WAS cool and nothing COULD compete with it's nice os, but when the iPod touch came out it was an iPhone without the phone. the iPad came out and its a 9.7 inch iPod touch. nothing has changed. the os is getting stale and old. you may say iPad is the next revolutionary device, but its the same old song and dance everyone knows. oh and p.s. 'fluidness' isn't a word. its fluidity.

  • just something else to suck peoples money away

  • WHY, DID I BUY AN IPAD o_o????

  • Umm, although it has the power to beat the iPad, it won't because people are looking for smooth, textures that iPad offer...

iPad can do better than this: 0:23 (seems laggy and croppy)

0:40 umm yeah, fail..... 0:45 Soo much fail you can't even explain it.

  • @Darkninja7396

    umm yeah, 5-year-old-joke...... Soo much old-joke that I think you're 14.

Quite a few people (including myself) aren't looking for a simple, featureless GUI. We'd like a tablet that puts all of it's functionality at our fingertips.

For me, I'd never buy an ipad until it gets:

    -Flash support

    -Multitasking

    -SD Card/USB slots/ports

    -Camera

    -Open ecosystem (app store)

Not sure what you mean by textures, but I've used an ipad personally, and it's not noticeably smoother.

  • @ThugRandles

Flash support? you joking? Have you seen the statistics of the battery consumption because of flash? Flash really does suck, the iPad has the best browsing experience anybody has ever seen, I've used an android before, the whole UI and especially the scroll is nowhere NEAR the iPads/iPhone's fluidness. iPad has multitasking, in the best possible way

  • @Rockyroopam Ipad only has multitasking for native apps- what if you want to stream pandora and monitor facebook at the same time? Can't- they're third party apps.

As far as flash, if you don't need flash, that's your experience. I browse a lot of flash heavy sites, and not having flash is a deal killer. I disagree with you that flash "sucks." I'm not sure how you'd explain it's ubiquity across the internet if it's so terrible.

  • @ThugRandles

All these stupid ports, USBs etc are past technology, when apple discontinued the floppy disk, it raised ell towards its customers, but OH look what happened now? Its gone, Apple is doing what it does best, and that is killing the past technology and going into a new one, the cloud. the iPad is a wireless device. Android just isn't prepared for it i bet, so it uses cheap shitty hardware to fit perfectly.

Camera is coming sir, 2 of them

The app store is the best damn thing ever

  • @Rockyroopam USB is shitty? Think about what you just said for a minute.

Not all devices are equipped for cloud interaction. Say I have a 5-10 gig file (or group of files) on my laptop that I want to transfer to my tablet. Would it make sense to upload those, then download them again? No- that would take hours. Rather, i could plug in a USB flash drive, or pop in an SD card and copy them from one device to the other in <10 minutes.

  • @ThugRandles And dont even talk down the the retina display, the build quality, the tremendous ecosystem of customers who can share highscores, play games together, collaborate with apps. The iPad has set the bar for many things, honeycomb cant do shit

  • @Rockyroopam I take it you're already locked into the Apple ecosystem, eh?

  • @ThugRandles Not really lol, I hate iTunes, I dont like how the iPad can only sync with itunes. And what exaclty do you want to sync? Documents? theres an app for that, you can use itunes to sync anything if you have the right app to do so, such as how I love watching movies on the ipad, and I can transfer ANY video whether it is HD or like, shitty .wmv files, I have an app for that, theres apps to transfer photos, documents etc, tell me one thing you cant sync with the iPad

  • @Rockyroopam You're missing the point- I want to circumvent the upload/download process necessitated by cloud syncing. It doesn't matter WHAT i want to sync, it's how much. Let's say I have a 8 gig video. That would take me a little over an hour to upload on my connection. Then another 45 minutes to download- assuming I'm maxing out the connection. Or I could do it via USB in a few minutes.

  • @Rockyroopam

I don't want "an app for that," I want native compatibility. I don't want to only use itunes-accepted formats. I want my sync method (itunes/usb drive/sd card) to allow me to sync whatever file types are supported by the device.

"An app for that" is the worst mentality a company can have. Instead of building these features into the core program, they just add them on as plugins. That works great for 3rd party plugins, but it's stupid if you're making the core program.

  • iPad should find a place to hide quickly :D

  • 1:11 shes kinda creepy :/

  • NERDGASM

  • Please no more ipad stuff, if apple makes a new ine please make it the best of tablets not just hafl way functional devic, I like android the better free, easy to use, open source

  • i love android and honeycomb looks amazing but for some reason this reminds me of tron

  • The Ipad is a closed OS and it will be that way for a long time untill apple learns to stop trying to sell to sheeple.

  • Android Tron, indeed.

  • *yawn

  • Android what?

  • @JESUSLAAA NO, I haven't seen any of those videos. Bit from the way you describe it, it doesn't sound very intuitive at all...

  • look at android 1.6 and 3.0 and back at 1.6 and back at 3.0....GEEZUS CHRIST

  • Honeycomb is sick and with the Moto Xoom even sicker.

  • the buttons of home, search and back on the lower part of the screen is so damn tacky, Apple implemented the same thing in a better way, with multitouch gestures, and u can switch between open apps too, i guess apple taught android another lesson...

  • @JESULAAA lol no. Personally, I love the style of the buttons, it reminds me a lot of old school tron design, but in a modern futuristic way. Also, I would like to see how apple have implemented this better, last time I checked, the iPad has only one navigation button, which juts out like a sore thumb, ultimately itself being tacky. And yeah, check the live demos. Android has the best implementation of task switching since MS created the taskbar.

  • @Gohansan01 clearly u didnt see the new multitouch gestures in iOS 4.3 beta, swipe 4 fingers up and the multitask bar appears, swipe left and right to switch between open apps and grab the screen with 5 fingers to get back to menu

  • @JESULAAA by "open" u mean apps which the iOS shows as "open" right??

cos even ios 4.3 does not support full true multitasking :)

  • @JESULAAA

    applicationDidEnterBackground:(UIApplication *)application

In iOS 4.0 and later, this method is called instead of the applicationWillTerminate: method when the user quits an application that supports background execution. You should use this method to release shared resources, save user data, invalidate timers, and store enough application state information to restore your application to its current state in case it is terminated later.

  • @JESULAAA Your implementation of this method has approximately five seconds to perform any tasks and return. If the method does not return before time runs out your application is terminated and purged from memory.

Dosent sound like "multitasking" does it ?

  • @dineshabe86 I'll take my pseudo-multitasking with fantastic battery life over real multitasking and crap battery life any day.

  • @Ketzusaka Respect !! cos u did recognize the "pseudo-multitasking" . but most of the "battery life is bad in android" is fake. i have been using htc magic for 1.5 yrs nw. my battery seems to last for 4 full days.

Android has a completely different app life cycle compared to other systems. apple is just using the shallow knowledge ppl have on android app life cycle for their usual smear campaign. most ppl see lots of apps "open" in android using their task manager and think their app is runnign

  • @Ketzusaka i am one of the many dev who moved frm ios to android ad a dev platform. and it took me sometime to understand the app lifecycle in android. so i dont blame people who believe that multi tasking in android is eating away their battery.

PS by multitasking i am not talking abt widgets.

  • @dineshabe86 It was the opposite for me. I started with an earlier Android device (Sprint HTC Hero). The battery was very bad on the device even with the task manager (which I believe shouldn't be needed on a mobile device). While I enjoyed & respected it, I found the iPhone user-interface and the App Store to be more of a polished experience. I'm a developer as well and continue to develop for both, but the App Store has proven to be much more profitable than the Android Market.

  • @Ketzusaka If device A running android has battery pblm and device B running android has no battery pblm dont u think the pblm might be beyond the OS ? Task manager in android is very very tricky. Cos u told me u r a dev i will tell u why. finish() in an android app shld "Call this when your activity is done and should be closed." Try calling that in ur app and open the task manager it will show as if the app is running. Then use System.exit(0) and check :)

  • @Ketzusaka The biggest battery hog in any mobile device is actual phone calls, sms , 3g , 4g , gps. Any app which does these will defn suck ur battery. An app in itself wont suck that much battery. in phones level wat ios is doing is enough. but in tablets i wont be able to open both my gmail chat and fb chat in same panel and chat in both of them if i want to can i ??

wat i see is . in ios u do wat apple wants u to do. in android we can do wat we want to.

  • @JESULAAA yeah im not quite sure what your getting at? what exact lesson have apple taught android?

    to multitask?

well.....can i suggest you check out slidepanel, its an interface app for android that is the most simple and useable multitasking manager on any device. i cannot wait to be truly multitasking using that on a tablet such as the xoom

and for me thats the defining feature....you dont like a feature on ios, tough, with anroid...you can just download a new one?

  • Android mobile version is coming in May/June 2011.

  • i really think they should mae better onscreen keyboards for tablets as having a screen bigger than 6 inches makes it way too hard to reach the buttons in the center of the keyboard unless you have the device laying on a flat surface. soo pls make the screens a but smaler or change the keyboard style...maybe you can make it so that a man can select between a few different styles

  • i love the music.

  • i don't know what to get now.....

  • Apple invents, google perfects.

  • @cataclysmichael apple didn't invent the first tablet, and ios is way more stable than android, since it's still pretty early in development

  • @hilerc

Neither did they invent the first mp3-player or phone. But still they kinda re-invented it.

Maybe iOS is more stable, but I haven't noticed anything about that going from an iphone to android. But I do find android way more intuitive and easier to use. That iOS is more stable and easier to use is what I call myths.

  • @cataclysmichael that's funny, because even though i prefer android to iOS anyday, I find iOS way easier to use. I think many would agree with me that apple makes so much of its computing revenue from simplicity and stability in their devices.

  • @hilerc

Maybe right off the bat, but after a day getting used to android it's way easier IMO. I actually find the iphone to be pretty cumbersome in many cases. But I'm probably more technical then most :P

  • @hilerc true. apple offers a very neat and consistent UI. and as everything is closed, it integrates easily.

never the less, after a day i find working on an andorid device way more fluent than on iOS. But w4.3 for iPad looks pretty cool, want it or not.

(im a proud android user by the way)

  • @cataclysmichael - You mean Archos invents, Apple steals, Android beats them both...actually joins Archos.

  • @cataclysmichael Just thought I'd let you know that Apple, although they started the tab wars, never created the first computer tablet.

  • does anyone know if this is going to be on the samsung galaxy tab?

  • this is definitely going to be my next mobile!!!.. :)

  • Overall these Android systems must be superior to the Ipad, much more possibilities and faster. One thing that concerns me though, in this movie and most other (hires) Honeycomb movies I've seen, why is the framerate of the animations not perfect? Look at the Youtube scrolling, 3D switching in the homescreen, sort off smooth but also a bit choppy, not flawless, even with the Tegra 2? Is this intrinsic to Android? Because lets be honest, in Apple systems animations have been flawless for years.

  • @rolyars that is the very only thing that Apple could keep for them, high FPS user interface thanks to GPU acceleration. I do hope that Honeycomb comes with acceleration also. Google stated it's not as easy for them since they have to support more than one hardware combination unlike Apple. But still, I'm rather confident this has been addressed in Honeycomb, eventhough it doesn't look too promising in this video.. but hey, it's just a video.

  • TRON: Legacy much? lol Android 3.0 ftw.

  • Lol minute 1:00 Apple ipad- Introducing the Ipad XD

  • what's up with Android and Food names? Jingerbread, Honeycomb...Next version of Android will be called "Chickenwings"

  • @trulireventeit Its not food names in general only sweets hm who doesn't like them?

Hold on I need a cookie....

  • @trulireventeit All of the names are inspired by desserts. Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt), Gingerbread. I dunno what kind of dessert Honeycomb is though. xP The next update is rumoured to be called "Ice Cream", continuing the sweet tradition.

  • nice

  • Dual core definitely needed to run this. Good for Google, sick of seeing craptablets put out every week with 2.x on it.

  • awsome!! dam now i regret buying a ipad!!!

  • love the tune.. :D

  • I sure hope I'll be able to see honeycomb on an android device soon...heck maybe by then the galxy S phones will finally get android 2.2 lol

  • This is awesome!!! But, why not cellphone?! >.<

  • Might come for phones but not that interface

  • This will help out Android tablets for sure against Apple. I still cant believe the iPad sold 8 million. Remember when everyone made fun of the name? Seems like a long time ago now.

  • @SportzComedy Well, the iPad isn't a particularly good product.

I expect such a device to be able to print and share documents easily (without the help of a desktop PC), give me more than a bunch of stupid icons on its home screen etc.

Android is a fully capable OS that can do everything a PC can do. The real war will be between Android and the next version of Windows (which will run on ARM hardware and have a tablet UI, too).

  • @SportzComedy only douches made fun of the name

  • @SportzComedy no it wont we are still coding the openiboot! we'll install this in no time!

  • so honeycomb isnt for phones?

  • @chaotic778 I'm sure Ice cream will be for both.

  • @chaotic778 no, but the guy responsible for the UI (forgot his name) stated in an interview, that this is the direction for Android, both Phone and Tablets. Let's hope it comes to the phones sooner rather than later!

  • So hyped for the Honeycomb, it's going to kick the iPad's ass.

  • @eatcarpet yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, no it wont. the ipad 2nd gen will dominate like it already has with the 1st gen.
