  • with a smile, even a sarcastic one, he doesn't look that bad

  • with a smile, even a sarcastic one, he doesn't look that bad

  • No one touches Erik's boxy :(

  • his mask looks like the transvestite version of V's

  • Why does it seem like every character in this cartoon looks like they're wearing to much eyeliner????

  • I must say, i am loving the cape swish!

xD Christine's run at 4:25! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Also, I can't help but love Christine's expression at 7:46

  • I kind of love (and by love I mean it nearly made me choke) how Erik talks like he's a player right after his face sends Christine into a fit of weeping and over-dramatic gesturing.

"I'm a kind of Don Juan, don't you know..."

    No, Erik. No, we don't.

  • lol, at 5.43, the subtitles look like 'take off the mascara'!

  • The Persian! It's nice to see him around! He's been sadly missed from most of the other versions.

  • Someone seriously needs to make a YouTube Poop of this

  • i just wanna see again

  • hello, can you show us the spanish version of the animated phantom?

  • PERSIAN FOR THE WIN.

  • LOL

    'I am Erik.'

    'You are a man!'

    *bursts into tears*

    'BUT I'M A LESBIAN!'

  • LOL AT HER RUNNING!

  • and is it just me or is Erik cocky in this?

  • I miss all the songs :(

  • and LOL at 'forwardd! forwardd! forwardd!'

  • who is that guy with the funny hat thing?

  • OH MY GOSH! WHY COULDN'T THIS BE A LIVE ACTION VERSION INSTEAD OF A PATHETIC CARTOON? THIS IS SO TRUE TO THE BOOK.

  • 6:36 attractive smile :D

  • omg, the phantom is so funny XD

  • i can't stop laughing! OMG! so funny!:P:P:P

  • The only reason I like this is because their facial expressions are totally epic. My favorite part though had to be when she fainted and he caries for what looked like hours of stairs and passages. Other than that the way the phantom has mood swings and non needed dramatic hand gestures mad it funny too

  • this is such a great cartoon. only because it stays so true to the original story and especialy because they keep the end with the torture chamber!

  • 7:40 ... Is he making out with her dress? xD

  • 3:54 Behold, the Phantom of the Dramatic Hand Gestures!

  • @Glora That's nothin! You should have seen Lon Chaney's Phantom. It was awesome.

  • @XevanescenceXangelX I second that! XD

  • Can anyone see that he clearly looks like he's wearing V's mask? lol

  • all i can think of with Erik's nose in this version is Voldemort's nose idk why i just can.

  • The phantom doesn't even look ugly. He looks better then Raol

  • Who's Robert? Buquet was the first to be killed, and he didn't even kill him. He hung himself in the torture chamber. And this is closer to the book??? I don't think so!

  • So while Christine is running she is dribbling an imaginary basketball?

  • oh god I fucking LOST it at 6:00, erik's big mouth and that terrible animation LMAO

  • I thought this was the Phantom of the Opera not V for Vendetta

  • Maybe they made his mask so creepy looking to show the kids that he isn't supposed to be nice....

  • I wonder whats creepier in this film, Erik's voice or his mask,(shudders)

  • God

    Christine,

sorry sweet heart but if I have to listen to you cry anymore,,,,,

I swear I will shoot myself.

    Love,

    Can't take it anymore

  • 4:25 that is a weird walk

  • @2:03 All I can think is, "V!"

  • Christine runs in a really funny way!!!!! I mean, who runs and swings their arms side to side like that??? XD

  • @aShLeYlUvSrOcK098 well, hehe, this is really embarrassing but I do run like that xD

  • Love it! But Erik's mask creeps me the heck out O__O

  • you know I dislike everyone in this except the phantom and the persian

  • when Erik's carrying Christine i kept waiting for him to drop her, stretch and groan, "i'm getting to old for this..."

  • Erik looks like a monkey and he sucks at playing the organ, christine's annoying and werid(not in a good way), and Raol is just plain ugly!!!!

  • this is so freaking cheesy!!! but i got to see cartoon erik, scared me, but two seconds after omg huggles. hate the mask its creepy, NO GUY FAUX MASKS PLEASE!!

  • at least garold butler didnt look like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:01 HOLY $#&$ its V!!!! From V for Vendetta. Shesh. That movie's such a Phantom ripoff. . .

  • @OvaltineEucerin fuck off, V for Vendetta is a brilliant film/comic with absolutely nothing to do with Phantom of the Opera. Just because both the main characters happen to be deformed, yet intelligent and sensitive does not mean that the themes, plot and even characters are the same.

  • @WaxedLegs Oh good heavens, I was only expressing my personal opinion, there's no need for name-calling or insults. You said yourself in another comment that this film reminded you of V for Vendetta. Your response to my comment makes absolutely no sense.

  • @OvaltineEucerin The difference being that you called V for Vendetta a ripoff, a very silly thing to say. And you said it in such a convicted, annoyed tone as if it were fact. My response makes absolute sense, and my original point still stands.

  • 4:30 - 4:55 was the scariest part in the entire movie for me as a kid.

  • Wow this animation is so poor. -.-'

  • V DE VENDETTAAAAA

  • Can't believe he has the patience to climb those stairs XD

  • 6:00 I actually felt bad when she took off the V for Vendetta mask. He probably lived for years craving her presence, yet was aware of the hideous nature of his face and how much she would fear it. Then he finally has her in his lair, and BOOM. It all goes to shit.

  • Erik looks so much better without the mask actually! The mask is just plain freaky AND ugly!

  • bhahahahaa!!!!

  • Oh my GOD ! I hate Eriks mask it's so...JUCK!! BLEH!!

  • I love 6: 47 - that loo is priceless- and then how he just tilts his head back and laughs like a crazy.

And Christine just is like, "Oh geez, what do I do with this guy?"

  • Why was she screaming? Our beloved phantom is way too funny!!! hahahaha... *In this version*. Ok... May be it just me...

  • Erik's voice reminds me of British actor Ian Holm a bit! Hee Hee!

  • this is the exact dialogue of leroux!!! I love this cartoon!!!

  • 3:00 this is the only verision where they have that scene, thank god SOMEONE remembered it!

  • WTF MAN.

    Why isn't Christine blonde?

  • @Shrimpyviksu its a detail that bother me to in all the versions and I think: where are her blue eyes and blonde hair? I agree with you

  • @ktabella13 Also...isn't Erik supposed to have black hair instead of grey? And also Erik isn't supposed to have nostrils because he has no nose, he does have two circles for a nose but I think they overlap each other....I think the reason why they made his hair grey is because if he had black hair he would look younger.

  • Comment removed

  • @71crm Of course, but I have to recognize of all the versions of the phantom this is the more loyal to the original version from leroux, actually this is one of my favourite versions of the story :)

  • his mask is so weird get a new one D:

  • I choked on my pop when Erik turned around.

  • Dang. The three are so quick to confess their love for each other in this version. o_O

  • Comment removed

  • "*GASSP* you shall never see Erik's face."

Nice going with that third person talk, there.

  • @PhangirlMusician He does that all the time in the book ~.-

  • @PhangirlMusician Seriously there is this one speech he says to the Persian where he never says "I". He just says "Erik"!

"If Erik's secrets do not remain Erik's secrets, it will be very bad for the whole of the human race!"

  • I'm so so happy i found this!

This is really close to the actual book and not the Andrew Webber version (not that i don't love that one too)

But all the other film adaptions are based on the musical and not the novel.

  • "The glory of my music shall make you love me!"

    Christine's Face: WTF?

    I lol'd so badly there.

But I wish there was a likable Christine...

  • @XevanescenceXangelX At least he makes a brad Pitt mask later

    XD

  • raoul has a cleft chin xD

  • I love how they took some quotes from the book...It does make Erik creepy though. Then again, he's SUPPOSED to be creepy, but we love him anyway. :P

  • wow. they made erik a creep in this...

  • XD, did she throw perfume at raoul?!?!

  • What is this version called? I've been looking everywhere for this!

  • the mask and hat reminds me of Vandetta xD

  • The Phantom is HORRIBLE at the organ.

  • They both love eyeliner. They have that in common XD

  • "I am looking at your great genius!" Boy, is Christine a rotten liar. I'm pretty sure Erik knew that in the back of his head, he's not stupid. And Raoul must have been like wth when Christine was like "Sssh! He will hear you!"

  • Holy shit, Erik suddenly turned into V? O_O Scared now.

  • The V mask is guy Fawkes a famous figure of British history.

  • Still...I'm scared.

  • I'm just saying, if I were Christine, I wouldn't have tried to escape. Then again, I was obsessed with POTO before I even saw any versions of it (I'm a synopsis reader) and I guess since I know the story so well, I'd just stick around and make it end the way it should have.

  • The score for this is actually incredible. It must be impossible to find a cd or mp3 i imagine.

  • yea finally an erik like in the book!!

Poor lovelorn fellow I'd love him <3

  • XDDD "EW HE'S TOUCHING ME!!" "Erik, believe me!" lawls.

  • 2:20 Apparently, Erik's hand is made of chloroform...

Anyone else notice that the Phantom looks like that silhouette on the Neighborhood Watch sign?

4:55 6:45 Oh, Erik, I'm in love with that evil laugh already. <3

Geez, everyone's despicable in here. Erik's a clingy wimp, Christine's a lying heartbreaker... and Raol's hair... bleh! xP

  • i think the sign's hidden message is "stay away from creepy, masked people....even if they have cute personalities"

  • @Donteatacowman Erik smelled like death, so Christine probably fainted because they were so stinky. And yeah...that's really how it is in the book. Erik and Raoul just spend the entire book crying over Christine. They're just whiny, bickering little boys. Poor guys, lol. I love them both.

  • 6:00 It seems Christine isn't the only one who goes overboard with the eyeliner. Kinda reminds me of the phantom from 1990 movie, he always blackened the area around his eyes, even though his mask was flesh colored. It was kinda weird, really.

  • @PinkCharmander It's because his eyes are supposed to seem sunken in.

  • So... he just chloroformed his girlfriend?!

  • nope lmao she just passed out is all.

  • This is an adaptation of the book... And Erik is... *shudder and face-palm*

  • god i wish i had the soundtrack to this

  • Who made the cartoon???

  • Lol I love how he picks her up. The only thought in my mind was 'Yoink'.....

And isn't her limp form gonna get heavy after lugging it all that way?

  • I think that it´s pretty cool that they made a cartoon, of Phantom of the opera, but the drawings, and the moves is not so good... It is not as gracefull as disney

  • That is because almost all the Emerald City studios' productions were made very quick and on low budget. I am still wondering how would Disney tell us this story? Would there be Erik as he is in the book and other curious things.

  • Erik would probably be under some sort of spell where his face wasn't REALLY ugly. Disney is...screwy like that.

  • Disney allowed Quasimodo to remain deformed.

  • You never know what they'll do though.

  • @Wykletypl They would probably make it a honeysweet happy ending and make christine a Disney princess XD

  • This was the first version of Phantom I ever watched, and it's been years and years since I last saw it. I love Erik's voice in this... Thank you so much for posting it!

  • Oh, yeah, the voice is great ^^

  • 6:35 I love that little smirk of his! So cute! :3

  • Don't think they look like he's trying to be all sexy with Christine?

  • Lol, I don't really think so...perhaps...but Erik was always a gentleman, even when he lost his marbles. XD

  • Yeah....

  • Oh whoa.......the guard's eyes are so creepy in 0:36!

Also speaking of creepiness, why is Erik's mask so darn weird looking? And doesn't Christine look through that?

Christine: I like your face.....it looks so painted! how did you do that?

    Erik: Uh........plastic surgery!

  • I was waiting for these "creepy eyes", and bam there they were!

  • Hooray! Christine doesn't like Raoul at all at this point! Yay!! *claps hands excitedly* And I recognized several lines from this cartoon as being directly from the Leroux novel too, Chunks. That is amazing. Hooray hooray hooray!!

  • This was, without a doubt, the most faithful adaptation of the book that's out there. Many of these lines were clipped word for word straight out of the text. BRILLIANT.

How can you not love Christine's fixation with eye-liner and Erik's V for Vendetta mask? Also... 7:40? EPIC WIN

  • The underground lair deffinately like the shadow gallery!

    V and Phantom = boss

It's like putting my two loves in ONE :D

just add Dracula and im good :D

  • YESYESYES! :):):)

  • Christine sure is tempermental

  • In part one, someone commented that the phantom was gentle. In every adaptation I have ever seen, he's creepy, violent , and murderously jealous over Christine.

  • 7:54...so funny! Christine's like "Yeghh, this ugly asshole is kissing my expensive dress!!!"

  • make that 7:45 XD

  • OMG Erik's laugh at 6:44 is *so* creepy but so awesome at the same time!!!

  • the face is not scary...but what do u expect from an 80s Saturday morning cartoon-style adaption...but other than that, it *rules*!!!

  • omg when Christine tosses the perfume at Raoul...hahaha, now he's gonna smell like a chick! serves him right for eavesdropping on her... ;-)

  • Agreed.

I like the way the music continues when Erik's hands are floating off the keys. X)

  • whoa...is Erik's glove spiked with chloroform? way sneaky...lol

  • What was that noise Erik made at 5:44? Lol!

  • its like a suprised *gasp* or something....

  • I was laughing at the same thing he sounded like he was getting suffocated.

  • Very good.

  • lol ugly

  • I never thought about how strong Erik was...dragging Christine's limp form all over hell's half acre! XD

Man, but Chris is such a shallow chick. She doesn't deserve her own groveling, half-crazed musician. XP

  • I concur XD

  • whats with the mask they should have kept it black or white

  • Well, um, duh, Christine........Raoul's a jerk and you stay with HIM!!!!!! Christine is a weirdo!

  • Rofl, Eric goes insane and Christine makes a "Oh, for the love of god"-face at 7:05... XD

  • "The glory of my music will make you love me!"

But instead of playing something soothing and romantic he busts into some maniacal organ rant. Now that's how you make your girl swoon!

  • Wow! He truly IS the world's greatest composer! How many people do you know of that can play the organ with both hands off the keys? ;)

  • I tell you, his organ Music sucks! >_> Some Master Composer.

  • It's hysterical!! It's all dramatic and tense and he's like, "I shall now play my Magnus Opus!" And then he puts his hands on the organ and sounds like a three year old plunking out random notes. xD

  • Wow, this movie is really close to the actual book. Yeah, it isn't exactly the same, but it's a lot closer then most of the other versions. :)

  • i love this version besides the shitty animation of course. :D

  • o_o Raoul looks to me, like jack the ripper...

  • You don't find his sharpie mustache to be attractive? o.O

    LOL!

  • duh :P

  • I would love Erik

    I would have picks Erik

  • realy? in the 2004 film i would have chose Erik. but this one...

(I'm probally getting thumbs down now)

  • not yet :) I just love Erik not for his looks I don't do that to people.Truth be told I do not think That Erik in the 2004 film was good looking ....and I know thats were the thums down comes in..but

  • He's too crazy for me in pretty much every version except maybe Charles Dance, heh.

  • Charles Dance is the sweetheart of Phantoms! His picture is in my closet. <3 In his picnic attire and hat. ^.^

  • Charles Dance's Erik is my favourite too! If you want to see Charles in another movie I recommend you to search for "Nicholas Nickleby 1 part 1" in that movie he is fantastic (as a villian:P)

  • That's not the newest Nicholas Nickleby is it? Because I've seen that one a bunch of times, and if Charles Dance has been in it as a bad guy all this time and I never knew, I'll be MAD at myself!! =O

  • No, not the new one. its the 2001 version, the year before. beleive me, you will recognise him directly! especially his beautiful eyes:)

  • Ooooo... I can't wait! Thanks! :D

  • you're welcome:) believe me, you're gonna love the other version, even though i haven't seen the 2002 version yet.

  • @PrincessDeFiggs hey question, which phantom of the opera(year it came out) was Charles Dance in? I'm a little curious :)

  • @moonfairy978 1990. The year I was born!! Not difficult for me to remember ;)

  • I agree, Charles Dance was really sweet!

  • Charles Dance!!!

  • I like this version, though. It's pretty accurate, except for Christine's hair color and stuff...

  • Really? I don't think it's that accurate. But I do give it props for having the persian (can't remember his name at the moment) in it. Of course, back in the 80s, he's identified as a persian only because he has a turban. Quite stereotypical.

Not to mention Joseph Buquet doesn't die too.... There's tons of other things but I'll stop here XD

  • Yeah, the persian is one of my favorites. XD I know it's not completely accurate, but it's more accurate than alot of versions out there. XDD

It's mostly just based off of the 1925 version with Lon Chaney, isn't it, though?

  • Comment removed

  • Exactly.

  • lol, why does that mask remind me of V for Vendetta? XD
