I'm just glad to see there's life out on that Kyle Railway. Been driving through the section of I-70 that parallels the railroad twice a year for 15+ years now, never seen a single train moving. Of course, we see the parked cars all the time and even they barely move.
@dasparkylad Yes its the weight. This plough has sand and concrete in it. It don't take much ice to derail it as you can see on my other video " Snow Plow Derailment". Thanks !
I love your videos lol. By far my favorite train vids on youtube. Do you guys still run the SP and ATSF colors today? I'm sure you've witnessed alot of what I wish I could only see; born Aug '86
We still do run them and some others that they leased including our own Kyle ones. Thanks!! and glad you enjoyed the vids. Hopefully we'll get more snow this winter where we can run the snow plow again and get more vids. put out.
Hopefully it comes down like mad hell so you can break them Tunnel Motors like wild horses lol. They sound so great and they've came so far from Tehachapi duty.
How close to the rails does the blade go? I'm guessing it don't scrap 'em.

my favorite part was when it was plowing the snow

If a drift is highly sloped and much deeper on one side, can it force the plow to the other side and derail it?
What about ice in flangeways at grade crossings?
Would a sharp disk ahead of the wheel cut it up enough that wheel flanges could cut through with out riding up and derailing?

You sure wouldn't want to get by that snow plow. It probably split the car in half. Not to mention, there's a lot of horse power there.

just as a matter of interest, what do they load the plow up with to give it weight? I would have thought they would have to to keep it on the tracks.

The plow that derailed had dirt, concrete, and chuncks of steel in it. Thanks
