  • is there really a right or wrong or is it a matter of preference, tuner vs v8?l think we all have to admit not matter what....we've seen nice versions of both!

  • Agreed, Not sure though. My dad also got an ´69 Camaro (Funny is, it looks almost the same without compressor and other rims.) He've been revving quite nice too but not that much. (He was revving like 6 000 on the 3rd gear, and was gonna throw in either 4th or 5th and accidently try to put in the Rear. That was quite a show, the gearbox survived though. :P)

    I've seen a hundred dyno runs, at least. The car simply isn't a torque monster. It sounds sweet but there's really not a lot to it. Strong valve train = no bent pushrods = no valve float to fuck up the engine's high rpm pull.

  • I'm just saying that sure it looks more impressive than it is but that thing has to weigh much more than even a stock Supra even if it's stripped.

  • I still don't know why you brought curb weight into this; I already pointed out that how much a car weighs has nothing to do with any pull anywhere. "...it looks more impressive than it is...". It's like those garish body kits attached to an import. If that isn't a wannabe presentation then what is? Since aero-kits are useless (increased drag, obviously, and even if it's every bit functional it's effective ONLY at HIGH SPEED and ONLY during braking and high-speed cornering. Top end is killed.

  • Also, close enough for argument's sake: Supra curb weight, 1460 kg (3219 lb) (non-turbo) 1581 kg (3486 lb) {turbo}. There likely is not enough difference between respective as-sold weights to even pull it into this thread.

    Time spent researching Camaro info is intentionally left to you. Never forget the 40-year difference between build dates. That alone can nullify any imaginable comparison, except that the Camaro will always draw more enthusiast attention through looks and sound alone.

    the onlything the supra has going for it is efi, better weight distribution and a modern suspension.

    both weigh close to the same, both rwd, both are 2 door.

    And even an old Camaro can be equipped with EFI, MPFI etc. Suspension isn't that hard to swap.

    Also, there's a 40 year time frame....so of course things are going to change.

    But I'd take the Camaro.

  • These are nice cars and a part of American History. Without the guys that love and build these cars there wouldn't be the modified cars you see today. Every real import tuner gives much respect to these cars AND their owners. Cars are a huge part of my life from Mustangs to Fits and I love them all...so what if my Civic is faster or better on gas than this car...this guy obviously spent alot of time, money, and effort to make this car what it is...that makes us all the same in my book...

    Don't get me wrong, a V8 sounds great but as a package. American cars are pretty poor. poor interiors, rubbish handling, big fat heavy cars that seem to have hardly any extra room inside that smaller european cars.

    And the fact that most 'Muscle' cars need a big old 6+ litre engine to produce such a small amount of power (considering the engine size).
