  • Some people think that the late president Roosevelt allows this incident to happen. Well I disagree. First of all U.S.A. during the early of 1941 does not want to go to war. U.S.A. at that time, is one of the industrious and rich nation...will gain nothing by going to war.... Secondly, U.S.A can just help by simply supplying minition and materials to its allies and remain neutral .That was President Roosevelt's plan before P.H. was bomb by the Japs. Just my 2 cents.

  • @angelofmusic477 supporting one side in a war is not remaining neutral. switzerland e.g. remained truly neutral by selling weapons to both sides. simply because this way they were able to make twice as much money i guess.

  • The narrator forgot to mentioned although the fleet was decimated, the Japanese completely miss out the 3 aircraft carriers USS Enterprise,Lexinton and Saratoga. U.S.A. being a large indusrtrialized nation will soon recovered to exact more terrible vengeance in a few years time....first destroying almost all the Japanese Aircraft carriers and dropping 2 A bomb on Japan.

  • @angelofmusic477 thank you for your thoughtful comment. In fact, the narrator mentions it and reviews this entire part of the story on the documentary which is available on my website. What you are seeing on YouTube is a clip from the documentary which is 90 min. long. David Hoffman–filmmaker

  • @angelofmusic477

All the battle ships at pearl harbor were there because they were obsolete and useless for combined operations with Halsey's fast carrier battle group. Halsey didn't want to be slowed down to the 12 knot cruising speed of those old WW-1 era ships or be limited to their short cruising range of just 2500 statute miles at their top speed of 20 knots.(20knots is a battle groups moderate cruising speed a WW-2 CBG's top speed was +30knots).

  • Under the rules of engagement a country should declare war on another countryr before attacking that country. In the case of the attack on Pearl harbor there was no prior warning. Japan during WWII is less honorable warrior on her role in the attack on pearl harbor.

  • @starscreamer47 you were right... and at that time they were awarded as the "Backstabbers"

  • @starscreamer47 the Japanese pilots thought war was already declared, the Japanese brass told them that because they knew under the Bushido code the pilots would not attack. The pilots did not find until out after the war and were devastated, some Japanese pilots even converted to Christianity because they were so devastated that they broke the Bushido code.

  • roosevelt is the one encourage the american people to atack japan and roosevelt show his feelings by standing in the wheelchair then they bomb succes the japan for their democracy

  • I wish conspiracy theorists like ones below would think about how many people would've had to have been in FDR's conspiracy to make it work: Gen.George Marshall, Admiral King, heads of intelligence forArmy/Navy and their respective code breaking heads/teams, Sec of War, etc. It would require admirals to stand by while a political hack got their men killed; pride of the nation sunk; men they knew and sailed with; ships they had sweated on and sailed round the world on. It was Gov't incompetence.

  • This is just more lies. As soon as I heard the voice of the narrator I know it was a History Channel special and therefore did not hold the truth of what brought the US into WW2. Roosevelt let this happen so that the citizens who did not want to be in the war would rally and clamor to get in the fight.

  • @Emsworker68 - Actually, this film was made for PBS. Your “facts" about American history at that time are not borne out by any research my team did as we worked on this film for almost a year and a half.

  • What did you use for documents? Original documents or documents/information given out by the government. Winners write the history and they spin things to give a good lite to things. Have you read any works by David Irving? He uses only original documents, diaries etc. His books have no bibliographies in them, because he never uses other peoples research/books to justify his position. Though, I enjoy documentaries I have come to not trust information in them.

  • @Emsworker68 The US knew that the Japs were going to attack somewhere but thought it was going to be the islands closer to Japan. If the US had known it would be Pearl, they would have taken most of their battleships out of Pearl before the attack and left a token amount of ships which would have been just as effective instead of losing the ships that the US still thought were the key ships to winning any war,

  • most of the aircraft carriers were not in the harbar .... without it , hard to peresuade the amercan to join the war , also China Dai Li gave the info of attacking to the US ...

  • it is said that President of the US let this happens to wake up the American people and join the war ..

  • @frankqio you are fucking stupid.

  • @NFCDallasCowboys Before telling someone that someone is (and I quote) "fucking stupid", please know there is quite some research being done into this. Main issue is that the US Navy suddenly just "lost sight" of an enormous Japanese fleet, they had been shadowing for months. It is still much debated whether it was a combination of errors and bad luck, but the fact that the only active radar station on Oahu picked up the incoming jap planes and didn't think anything of it... is weird.

  • @Roeinerd Plenty of errors in judgment along with some bad luck. We did pick up the Jap planes but couldn't have done a thing by then. More importantly, we had decoded a message from Japan asking for location of where our ships were tied up in the harbor and the type of each days before the attack. If you get the chance, get a copy of 'At Dawn We Slept' by Gordon Prange. Fantastic read; could have been called 'In 1941 We Slept'. Plenty of blame to go around.

  • i don't trust the japanese... they're always taking pictures.

  • Great and concise video. My Uncle Bill was stationed at Pearl Harbor but lucky for him his destroyer was pat of Admiral Halsey's carrier group returning from Wake Is. on December 7.
