Thanks for the memories, surfer dude. I finally caught on and caught up. You were always on my mind, Love, The Flowers of St. Francis Girl. P.S. I never stopped crying when Old Yeller died.
I would still be doing science if I had met more scientists with Feynman's mindset. Too many scientists and science students are so convinced of their own superiority vis-a-vis the rest of humanity, that they were just teeth-gratingly annoying to work with. I don't care how many times you've been published, and no, artists and philosophers are not second-class citizens in the world of academia.
Well this contradicts most evolutionists on you tube. They like to say the the sum of a thing is not the desire but the constant pursuit of trying to find the answer is desired. To always be looking but never finding- That way they call a guess a fact because " that's all we know about it at this point"- They seem to enjoy guessing about a thing more than finding the absolute truth. After all, the puzzle is no longer fun once it's put together- YEAH that does sound stupid doesn't it?
What he said at 3:30 has more value than most will ever realize. Remember that there are geniuses in other fields other than physics such as poetry, philosophy, and even morality or government. Those thinkers have taken things deeper than we know, and it can take life times to understand just how deep and how far they have taken their speciality. Think about it, there are millions of books in our libraries... millions.
Except most non-sciences are theoretical, with no right or wrong answer, meaning the vast majority of the material contradicts itself, as there are a plethora of different directions and theories. Science deals with concrete truths, and the pursuit of those, and have a much higher value. And this is coming from an artist.
@ChudFapper I have just re-read what you wrote to my comment 5 months ago and after some thought, I agree with you. Science has brought something to my life that no other academic discipline has, a sense of truth.
@ChudFapper I have just re-read what you wrote to my comment 5 months ago and after some thought, I agree with you. Science has brought something to my life that no other academic discipline has, a sense of truth.
I agree with Feynman, you'd have to be ignorant or dumb to not understand how science ADDS to the awesomeness of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING around you.
This video is great, but I highly recommend reading the book version of "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out." It's my favorite non-fiction book. Feynman truly was a national treasure. The world needs more people like him.
@jimmyti9cer YES! And then sit back and see how the world would change for the better!
His only short fall (and I am not very serious) was his early bias against "the humanities" which is very much the soul of the university. A university is the place you go to get what you cannot get anywhere else! I was once asked why I like Shakespeare? Because I get something from Shakespeare that I cannot get anywhere else! The Sciences and the Humanities are not mutually exclusive!
How wonderful to see Richard Feyman after having read a lot of his books; he was such a great educator, had a great sense of humour and very good looking - someone to to sit round your dinner table...
I can live with doubt and uncertainty and not knowing. I think it is much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers that might be wrong.
Few day of looking at Feynman interviews, has really changed the way I look at the world and the way I think of things. Today was the first day that I just sat down and really thinked why things happen like they do. This guy is just brilliant!
I was a kid when I first saw this on TV. These days I'm listening to the lectures on physics in mp3. Recommend it to anyone. Feynman didn't believe in God because he was too modest. He was the only candidate for the job ;)
What a wonderful son and what an incredible father. When I'll have a child, I'll do my best to give her/him a proper education, like Mr. Feynman's father did. Words cannot express how incredible these men are.
@buckfushes, I agree. Richard Feynman, while not quite as eloquent as, say, stephen hawking when it comes to writing, still has quite a bit of prowess and even better, he has some of the most fascinating stories I have ever heard.
I don't threaten anyone shill...thats part of the point.
As to weak and tepid denial of Roman subversion...history is the best indicator of the the truth of that statement.
That you use the term 'conspiracy theory' at all places you far behind a luminary like Feynman. You evidently have gained nothing by listening to him.
Question all you have come to know, from the first moment you could know it. So much for your imputations.
my father didnt have the education he is trying to afford for me now, he taught me some other kind of things, but conscious rising is always a wonderful thing.
I can only wish to be able to one day teach my child as Feynman was taught. But if not at least I'll make sure my son has an inquisitive mind. Thanks for this post.
I am startled by the lack of views. No where on YouTube or anywhere else have I witnessed such a high quality of thought process. I am so impressed and inspired by Feynman.
@Olsonic No, it is merely an updated version of the Catholic Action rags of the late 1020's...conditioning youth to Catholic meme, error and ignorance.

There is little to no 'education' occuring on googles 'youtube'.
You don't threaten me abbesieyes, you come across as supremely over-confident.
Especially in the context of these videos, which are incredibly lucid remarks on "what it takes to know something" by a very brilliant man. I suppose you think Feynman has a hidden agenda?
abbesieyes, youre fucking hilarious. it would be rather scary if people actually took you dumbshits seriously. Your channel is proof that anyone can upload anything, but you still claim its just a conditioning tool? @abbesieyes My hole? You think when planes fly by and leave jet exhaust they are chemicals being sprayed in the air to kill people. Which of us do you think lives in a hole? Fucking moron
@Transfectingood Lol...when you actually become a pilot...do tell me the difference between a contrail at altitude and other particulate matter at altitudes too low to propogate contrails...especially ones that diffuse across the sky for hours.
And who said that the aim is to kill people?
What occurs to temperatures below a cloud blanket...however diffuse?
@abbesieyes There you have it, you live in a hole to avoid chemtrails. So shut the fuck up about telling others to come out of theirs. Especially when we have been out, in school for example, when you obviously have never been to college where you could simply ask a professor or two, who would laugh and prove you wrong in seconds.
Feynman's behaviour is not what usually one would call "wise". He was someone who was never afraid of appearing childish. However, I believe that this is what is missing today. We are just too serious in some manner.
Of the actual Feynman lectures? The undergraduate ones he gave at Caltech? Where do you get them, I thought there was only the books and audio recordings.
I think you're right - the odd b&w clips tend to come from lectures filmed by BBC in 1965 - the text of which was worked up into The Character Of Physical Law..
Well if you want to know more about this beautiful world we live in, you don't have to become a physicist, there are lots of popular science books and magazines that offer you something great ;)
Well, then you should learn about it! For good beggining i`d recomend available here on youtube "Cosmos" series by Carl Sagan. Then come back and ask for more :)
Feynman is one of my all time favorite humans. He was so interesting, and COOL, in so many ways and on so many levels.
He was a truly great person.
It is interesting to note, I think, that Feynman, despite his brilliance, could never have been elected to any significant office in the US; simply because he was honest about his metaphysical world-view.
@dfarmer1584 what I find interesting is that people like Feynman and Sagan, whom I would actually trust as my president, would never want such a position...and people call them arrogant. They're knowledge is what *MAKES* them humble
