Can someone tell me where to find a good and simple to understand tutorial of either blener or anim8tor? I don't understand the programs at all but I really want to make cool things in them. :(

@happyguy1931 cre8tor is kinda kewl yes, but too bad it won't run in windows 7. I shall try it sometime though in XP I guess. I tried everything in win7 but it refused giving a crash. It looks amazing though, and even has a neat terrain system, which blender doesn't.

You've clearly missed the point of the video. It's simply a parody of the video i replied to. I've never claimed that blender is a weak software. Read the text in the video, and you'll understand.
@FreeHandPictures and your attitude ( slightly old post) shows that the blender community is made up of jerks, as are the developers who continue to make a rigid application specifically for just supposed professionals, with no concern for possible new users to 3d who might have a difficult time with standards setup by blenders supposed caring , professional team. Mactetra is just showing how anyone can make an unscientific comparison to look however they want it to look by choosing examples that support whichever program they like. I doubt. The ART-Raytracer had just been released for anim8or, and was quite hard to use. someone who were new to anim8or, and had such a low moddeling ability would not be able to make the reflective effect on the table.
Blender can do better pictures, yes i know. That is the whole point of this video. if you watch it all the way through, you'll understand.

excellent point, also with blenders high learning curve evens good artists may take longer to produce better art than anim8or, until they become proficient
@myboy128 You can say that, but you probably never used Blender, which is capable of being on par with the leading softwares that cost hundreds of dollars, and use Anim8or for the, even though it is a chunky, simplicity of it`s interface. Telling by your name alone. and confirming by your videos, your probably around 10, so you probably don`t unsterstand the concepts of what cg or rendering is, you just like making models without textures and maps.
I `ve used both Anim8or and Blender, but to me, Anim8or has a crappy interface, and even if it`s ``as good as Blender in capable hands``. YouR examples didn`t give blender much justice, implying that Anim8or is, if not better, than Blender. Because it`s still a fact that Blender, even the older 2.4x versions were, and still are, more advanced than any Anim8or versions now. For example, the scene at 0:20, the compositing and rendering could be from Anim8or, but I highly doubt it.

hmmm at 0:20 that robot or walker (GDI Titan) is from tiberan sun and i dont think they had anim8or in 1997 (game was realesed in 1998 but i think it was making year)

People are still argueing this! Uh, it's useless to flame war, it just makes you look stupid in front of everbody. I use anim8or, and I've used blender. They both can do excellent things and make excellent renders. It just depends on whos behind the screen (whos making the work).
To be honest, I've never been able to figure out how to use blender. I think Blender was made for learning pros in college and Anim8or was made for ammatures/begginners/teenagers that have time on thier hands.
so this is like, uh 2 years old. the original vid was 3, the one you responded to. I'll just throw in here that I've worked with both anim8or and blender and I have to agree it's what you put into it. anim8or was made by 1 person, that's pretty impressive, and it works good too; Blender definitely has more features that make workflow easier and things quicker. that doesn't mean blender is best, maya could easily own it. so showing art isn't as important, showing the process of it's creation is.

well i've decided im going to use both. Im not good at modeling in blender so ima use anim8or for modeling. and anim8or rigging style is so dumb so ima use blender to rigg and animate my models :). I think that could work out.
I think every application for making 3d objects which can operate on vertexes edges and faces with simply controls like move scale and extrude can do everything.
Important difference between simple programs like anim8or/ms3d/wings3D,[i don't saying that these programs are poor or sucks] and bledner/3dsmax/maya/cinema4d is big bcs these second, has more options. go to google and search "blender 2008 f1 winner" and click on images and look at first picture that pops up of the blue and whie car looking thing. that is blender at its best. you can search for blenders f1 challenge and look at a number of other unbelievable pictures made with blender. the detail is incredible.

Of course you could make a terrible model in blender, that doesn't make it bad! What you can do with it depends on the modeller/animator. Anim8or is ok to use to start out, but Blender is much more advanced. A professional modeller could make an awesome photo-realistic model in Anim8or (though it would be much easier in Blender), that doesn't make it better than Blender. Anim8or is much more limited than Blender, overall it is not as good.
@Mactetra Sorry, Thats's a Recreation. And it was done on Anim8or. Check out the Anim8or Forum, The creator of that shot shows his step by step construction of the model and Rendering
Learning blender takes months, Anim8or takes minutes. And with that i mean the functionality provided in anim8or. I completely agrees on that blender is several hundred times more advanced, but some stuff are unnecessary difficult.
I would love to see an app with the combined force of both worlds. But I think that if you want something you have to do it yourself.
I have only been using blender since June But i would consider myself one of experience. and trust me IT IS NOT THAT HARD just spend a few days on youtube and you'll be one of the greats.
@salmiak911 Nothing in Blender is unnecessary, some people need to use all that they can find in it.
Anim8or doesn't "take minutes," only the stuff that you see the most is that easy to do, because it's one of the animation programs that most people use to prepare themselves for bigger ones. The features are easy to apply, but doing a real project on it can take as many "months" as Blender.
For the people who are more experience, they have already moved on to a bigger animation software.

You arent making any scene. Its like saying a VW Bug is better than a Ferrari because the guy driving the bug is going faster at the moment. Blender is capable of things much better than anim8tor. Example: Particle systems, liquids, cloth. Blender also is open source and has a better community. Blender owns!
@sh6dowflameX I wouldn't say they have a the same capabilities. Last time I checked Blender uses advanced computing techniques for special calculations and skeletal systems. Definitely has far more scripts for developers and tools. Blender definitely is a superior program but, what the artist makes of the software is what matters. By far the artist is what makes the art, not the software but, the software helps the artist give the window.

well the only different from the two programs is that anim8or uses a lot less memory than blender. for those that doesn't have a fast of a computer can use anim8or to do 3D modeling. And Blender for the faster computers.
Anim8or lacks many important features such as particle systems, rendering engine, etc. Blender possesses far greater capabilities compared to other freeware 3d software, but it has one major flaw which is the UI. Its not so much difficult to understand as it is just plain weird, and does not offer any real advantages in terms of efficiency as blender users would have you believe.

Thank You for the video. Watched another video that was terrible. Glad people put time and effort into both of these programs. They are both powerful if used correctly. Anim8or has a easier interface and is easier to use , but Blender has a steep learning curve and powerful features. There is a game engine for Anim8or its called Crea8or. Personaly I find anim8or to work out much better thatn blender, but thats just me, others can use blender better than me, each artist has their preffered tool, it up to them to make a master peice, at least this video was a lot better than the first "Blender vs Anim8or". Theres good work for anim8or theres good work for blender, theres bad work for anim8or theres bad work for blender.
It's sort of bizarre to compare them. Anim8or is developed by one guy in his spare time, so far as I can tell, whereas Blender is open source, thus calling on the aid of a much larger community, and is also developed by a number of professionals and has a considerable amount of funding from related product sales. So obviously Blender is more robust, flexible, and up-to-date.
thats why theres a help button and tutorials online i'm not kidding people are kinda stupid your not going to learn it over night but in the long term all that time you spent learning it really ganna pay off
Blender is more powerful (no question) but what I personally like doing is using a combination of blender and anim8tor, because anim8tor is considerably easier to use. basically, I make a basic model in anim8tor, then export it to blender and work on more complex details there.
yeah that makes sense. Also to say that blender is better than anim8tor is completely stupid, bc first of all only ONE person created Anim8r, and many people worked on Blender. Also, Anim8tor is a little more user friendly, so to speak...
Anim8or just isn't as powerful. It's renderer leaves a lot to be desired, and it doesn't have very many modeling features. Blender just outclasses it in just about every way.
There is no reason for a "flame war" over this discussion. Although I personally use 3DS Max, Blender is technically a far more powerful application than Anim8or. Blender carries far more features such as particle systems, physics simulation, and a more advanced set of modelling tools.
While there is no question that Anim8or is a far more basic application, work done in either of the two will vary greatly in quality, depending on the specific area of 3D it addresses.
I agree with you about the purpose of this video, and thought that the other one was horribly biased, but I prefer Blender, as it is so much more intuitive once you learn it.

I use anim8tor, only cus its the first program I ever used to model. When it comes down to things though there is no short cut to making a model look exactly the way you want it. Anim8tor does the job just fine, I posted my video showing some anim8tor things I have created and animated using soly anim8tor and people say its not bad. Its not a bad program if you put time into it, likewise any professional grade program is useless in the wrong hands.
well, you are right, i did NOT put much efford into the blender examples, in the same way that the video i am replying to did not put any efort into the Anim8or examples.
if you had read the text at the end of the movie you would see that i point out that it is easy to find crappy work done in one program, and good work in another.
i'd have to agree with baxter and blastofftek, good models are made by good artists (computer artists) i think that blnder has more options but anim8or is WAY easier to use, i use anim8or util i get a little better then ill try blnder
i must be dislexic or something but i thought i just read that anim8or is hard to use. i think its the easiest thing in the world for the modeling part. and everything has its pros and cons, i think if u did it right u would use both programs and compensate for its cons. none the less keep at it. and turn this hobby into a profession.

Blender actually competes with $3-10,000+ dollar software, anim8 does not. Playdoh vs Sculpting clay...thats all it really is, both can be fun in the right hands.
If you are going to publish a video on the internet, doing a spell check on your claim shows a bit of maturity. You are 16 so go figure. Maya, 3dsmax, xsi...they are expensive. $3,000-10,000 range, and Blender is on par with those costly software packages, Anim8 is not.
You're correct about Blender comparing favourably to commercial software. But really, did you need to be so rude to Mactetra? People make typos, especially people who don't natively speak the language. Spell checking shows OCD more then it does maturity.

well i've decided im going to use both. Im not good at modeling in blender so ima use anim8or for modeling. and anim8or rigging style is so dumb so ima use blender to rigg and animate my models :). I think that could work out.

I think every application for making 3d objects which can operate on vertexes edges and faces with simply controls like move scale and extrude can do everything.
Important difference between simple programs like anim8or/ms3d/wings3D,[i don't saying that these programs are poor or sucks] and bledner/3dsmax/maya/cinema4d is big bcs these second, has more options. go to google and search "blender 2008 f1 winner" and click on images and look at first picture that pops up of the blue and whie car looking thing. that is blender at its best. you can search for blenders f1 challenge and look at a number of other unbelievable pictures made with blender. the detail is incredible.

Of course you could make a terrible model in blender, that doesn't make it bad! What you can do with it depends on the modeller/animator. Anim8or is ok to use to start out, but Blender is much more advanced. A professional modeller could make an awesome photo-realistic model in Anim8or (though it would be much easier in Blender), that doesn't make it better than Blender. Anim8or is much more limited than Blender, overall it is not as good.

The developers of C&C Tiberian Sun didn't use anim8or for the game's cutscenes, and that is screenshot from one such cutscene.

Learning blender takes months, Anim8or takes minutes. And with that i mean the functionality provided in anim8or. I completely agrees on that blender is several hundred times more advanced, but some stuff are unnecessary difficult.
I would love to see an app with the combined force of both worlds. But I think that if you want something you have to do it yourself.

@salmiak911 Nothing in Blender is unnecessary, some people need to use all that they can find in it.
Anim8or doesn't "take minutes," only the stuff that you see the most is that easy to do, because it's one of the animation programs that most people use to prepare themselves for bigger ones. The features are easy to apply, but doing a real project on it can take as many "months" as Blender.
For the people who are more experience, they have already moved on to a bigger animation software.

You arent making any scene. Its like saying a VW Bug is better than a Ferrari because the guy driving the bug is going faster at the moment. Blender is capable of things much better than anim8tor. Example: Particle systems, liquids, cloth. Blender also is open source and has a better community. Blender owns!

@sh6dowflameX I wouldn't say they have a the same capabilities. Last time I checked Blender uses advanced computing techniques for special calculations and skeletal systems. Definitely has far more scripts for developers and tools. Blender definitely is a superior program but, what the artist makes of the software is what matters. By far the artist is what makes the art, not the software but, the software helps the artist give the window.

Anim8or lacks many important features such as particle systems, rendering engine, etc. Blender possesses far greater capabilities compared to other freeware 3d software, but it has one major flaw which is the UI. Its not so much difficult to understand as it is just plain weird, and does not offer any real advantages in terms of efficiency as blender users would have you believe.

Thank You for the video. Watched another video that was terrible. Glad people put time and effort into both of these programs. They are both powerful if used correctly. Anim8or has a easier interface and is easier to use , but Blender has a steep learning curve and powerful features. There is a game engine for Anim8or its called Crea8or. Personaly I find anim8or to work out much better thatn blender, but thats just me, others can use blender better than me, each artist has their preffered tool, it up to them to make a master peice, at least this video was a lot better than the first "Blender vs Anim8or". Theres good work for anim8or theres good work for blender, theres bad work for anim8or theres bad work for blender.

It's sort of bizarre to compare them. Anim8or is developed by one guy in his spare time, so far as I can tell, whereas Blender is open source, thus calling on the aid of a much larger community, and is also developed by a number of professionals and has a considerable amount of funding from related product sales. So obviously Blender is more robust, flexible, and up-to-date.

You should not compare Anim8or to Blender. At all.
Blender is a full-on 3d suite, in the same category in terms of power and use as the likes of Cinema 4d, Maya, etc.
It's got an initially-unfriendly interface that ends up being highly productive once you get the hang of it. It's a tool made for serious work.
Anim8or is a simpler, friendly intro to 3d that may also be all you need to make nice art.
We should be thankful for both

Blender is more powerful (no question) but what I personally like doing is using a combination of blender and anim8tor, because anim8tor is considerably easier to use. basically, I make a basic model in anim8tor, then export it to blender and work on more complex details there.

Anim8or just isn't as powerful. It's renderer leaves a lot to be desired, and it doesn't have very many modeling features. Blender just outclasses it in just about every way.

There is no reason for a "flame war" over this discussion. Although I personally use 3DS Max, Blender is technically a far more powerful application than Anim8or. Blender carries far more features such as particle systems, physics simulation, and a more advanced set of modelling tools.
While there is no question that Anim8or is a far more basic application, work done in either of the two will vary greatly in quality, depending on the specific area of 3D it addresses.

I use anim8tor, only cus its the first program I ever used to model. When it comes down to things though there is no short cut to making a model look exactly the way you want it. Anim8tor does the job just fine, I posted my video showing some anim8tor things I have created and animated using soly anim8tor and people say its not bad. Its not a bad program if you put time into it, likewise any professional grade program is useless in the wrong hands.
