  • growing up i watched my dad, uncles, grandparents do this hundreds of times.. its the quickest and most humane way to kill a chicken... however, i still cant bring myself to dispatch an animal by holding it and cutting its head off. nice job guys.

  • nice hair hahahaha

  • Ignore the idiot comments. This is what happens when a culture has become so completely disconnected from where its food comes from.

  • Mohawks, the new Mullet

  • im not a wimp or anything or a vigan but that is just nothing about that is humane because it didnt die on spot it was still fluttering

  • @gunsndrums1 please read the other comments as the fluttering is explained. The bird is instantly dead, however the nerves "freak out" because the brain is no longer connected. Thanks for the response!

  • In the ten seconds it takes to walk the chicken away from the others, I would have already become emotionally attached to it XD

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • sick hair dude

  • The young man should get a job as living rainbow

  • Piss off man if you want to eat go to a local store or something. Them chickens dont need to be killed.

  • we gotta eat to survive!

  • Good way, I think. I would use a gallon jug cut to fit a bird to put in head first. Contains the wings and easy slice or head chop! We slice the throat to bleed out the bird. We processed two birds tonight with ease!

  • this was probably the most humane way of killing a chicken, i don't think it had any idea whatsoever that it's head was just hacked off, congratulations. we may all have to resort to our own little backyard farms when society falls apart, at least now i am prepared to know what i may have to do in an emergency,

you could also lift up their heads while they're still walking and swing a real sharp knife or sword through the air and have off with it that way too, elminating need for two people

  • did ya kill a nigger?

  • the guy with mohak, is hott!

  • How does a headless chicken move?

  • @LOLZpersonok the muscles from the chicken reflexes, it does that because it was suddenly killed

  • @Setraxful Oh that just gave me chills down my spine

  • @LOLZpersonok there is a nerve on where you cut the chickens neck, and when you cut that nerve the musles twitch and when all the blood is drained out it stops twitching.

  • i want to eat that chicken i want to kill a chicken so bad just take a machete and chop it's head off simple easy and just plain humane no pain to the animal means no pain to you

  • I've never seen a rake used to hold the head. Pretty clever. We always used two big nails driven into the stump. We'd put the chickens neck between the nails and stretch it's neck out. It only takes one person that way.

  • mm mm mm chicken

  • Oh for Gods sake guys why do u show this shit..thats why you get so may idiot vegetarians say..oh don't kill animas!..morons!

  • @ThePSYCHOChannel If I understand you correctly, you're saying that videos like this are the reason why idiot vegetarians say don't kill animals? How else would you quickly and humanely kill a chicken in a way that guarantees the chicken doesn't feel anything? Yes, it may be bloody, but that's generally what happens when an animal is killed by decapitation (instant) instead of breaking its neck (which may or may not be instant, depending on the skill of the butcher).

  • @ThePSYCHOChannel It is a godsend that these videos can be viewed online for the homescale chicken farmer who is just starting out. I am a bit nervous that I might do something wrong when butchering my first chicken and I want nothing more than to do it in the most humane way possible. This is not sick, this is educational. It is more humane to share this information rather than let the inexperienced butcher cause unnecessary suffering to the animal due to ignorance.

  • Clean, fast, the chicken didn't have a clue what was going on. Perfect. The best meat comes from happy animals!

  • I wish big farming industries would do this. Instead of letting them sit in there own feces, in the dark, in an overcrowded pen, while being kicked and stepped on. I wish i could buy my chicken from you!

  • @shmoopsy87 I hear ya! Raising chickens is expensive, & doing so on a small scale will cost the consumer more. So if you want humane, be ready to pay up. You could post on Craigslist asking if any1 sells meat birds that they raise themselves and humanely process. There are many methods, including bleeding (a quick slice to the jugular that does the trick almost as quickly), which many people find repulsive.

  • @charbobjesus On the contrary, I actually find that raising chickens is very cost effective. My 3 chickens more than feed two households with their eggs, and at 3-4 dollars for a dozen eggs of comparable quality, they payed for themselves in the first year. In feed, I probably spent a maximum of $100 in one year and another $100 in hay and feeders, the coop cost nothing but labor, and rounding up. At least $200 worth of eggs have come out of those chickens.

  • @shmoopsy87 (con't) Sometimes you can find a farmer who sells it, but unless he is USDA certified he might tell you it's not for human consumption. In that case, buy the birds live & butcher them yourself! It's not that hard as long as you have the stomach for it...and you can control the cleanliness and how humane the process is. Thanks for the post!

  • @arshdeep125 @charbobjesus Well at least your child knows. and to Avri Have you ever tried to understand that in Ancient Canada, And Europe and Asia, that the children are shown what TRUE LIFE IS.Not this BS what you call "Law and Service" forget that, Learn the truth. the only way to survive in the 3D Level of Consciousness. Also, If that child was conditioned to believe that the McChicken he ate came from the McDs store, Its pure conditioning. Believe what you want. Reality.

  • Thanks for this! Excellently, humanly done. We're thinking of getting a few chickens for eggs/fryers. When I was a kid, younger than this one, we butchered once/year also. Except the chicken ran free after the butchering; my brother and I had to "catch" it. The pail is very smart! ....now off to see how to scald them for plucking.

  • girlfriend and I keep chickens and we dispatched the first one a few weeks ago - from when I was about 5 or 6 I would go out and help my dad with the chickens we kept at home so it doesn't seem wrong and I know that you have to have a sharp blade so you can do the job in one.

  • Nice job! And I like how you are teaching your son the ways of life. I know our son will probably not like butchering once we get to that point, but he needs to see it. I mean, what are people gonna do if we have an apocalypse? Food comes from somewhere and you'll have to get used to killing an animal at some point. Up until we had butchers and slaughterhouses, we had to do it on our own. People are so uninformed and get their feelings hurt too easily these days! It's called LIFE!

  • i wouldnt wear gloves....

  • good one

i like it and you did what i was waiting for :)

if you want to kill something than do it without making them suffer .. just one chop and it should be headless orless the chicken will suffer more than death .. just kill it without waiting or teasing.

  • So that was a dirt rake you used to keep it down? Did you remove one of the teeth, or will the chicken's neck fit between? And what do you do with the blood? Can it be made into sausages? And I'm glad you showed your son where his food comes from. Most kids don't realize that hamburgers come from a cow until they're in high school (and sadly) even college. And hopefully you will make a video on "cleaning" the chicken, such as plucking, and removing organs and the like. Thanks!

  • @RogueRaven17 Yes, it's a dirt rake, and the chicken's neck fits perfectly between the tines. I don't do anything with the blood, maybe use it for catfish chum/stinkbait, but not for cooking with. I am planning on making a "cleaning" video, but I gotta have some chickens to butcher first! I had 2 that I was going to do, but they got too big and "flipped" (when they have heart attacks due to size). Thanks for the post!

  • OMG. dont be xtreme people. It is not suffeing at all. just couple of seconds TOP. no more. i personally would preffer that than a 2 years cancer. this is the right way to kill a domestic bird. Well done Sir.

  • 1:03:"That decides it,Im becoming a lawyer..."

  • @avrilrocks55 Why, because we let our child see where his food comes from?

  • @charbobjesus,I was just joking XD...but yeah. I just felt I needed to comment it...hence my randomness.

  • @charbobjesus Hi, I agree with you that children should know where food come from and I'm in no way telling you how to raise your kid. but when I was that child's age, I've never witnessed animals being slaughtered and I can't say that at present, I'm worse off than people who saw animals being slaughtered when they were very young. So what I'm saying is, letting a child see an animal being slaughtered is neither right nor wrong - but it's unnecessary. Unless you want to make him a vegetarian.

  • @eriquerique 1 of 2: While I understand where you're coming from, I disagree. It has been 3 years since this video, and I am grateful that he knows what it means to eat meat, and even at such a young age he can see that an animal gave its life for our summer bbq. Case in point: cruelty to animals is not an option for him. When another child had no problem kicking and beating a fish to death, our son admonished him and told him that wasn't appropriate behavior.

  • @eriquerique 2 of 2: When the other kid said the fish was going to die anyway, our son told him that he helps take care of our meat chickens & that he makes sure all of "his" animals have good lives before they die. Unnecessary? No, for anyone who eats meat it is very necessary. I don't want my child living in a bubble thinking his food comes from a plastic package in the grocery store.

  • @charbobjesus That's such a nice kid you've got there. And basically I don't disagree with you. When I was a kid, I discovered that food does not come from plastic packages when I came to understand the concept of death and food chain, and I don't think that this is wrong as well. Also, when I said unnecessary, I mean to say "unnecessary for that age". IMHO witnessing animal slaughter becomes very necessary when you're at a certain age when you are perhaps less impressionable.

  • lol

  • nice clean kill, good job.

  • What the HELL did you do to your hair???

  • Well done sir...he never felt a thing. good job. I have one request could you possibly make a video on the next part..cleaning the insides? I have 13 roosters and I need to know how within a couple of months. I noticed all your birds are white..are they the kind that live 8 weeks? What kind of birds are they? Thanks!!!

  • @london1817 We won't be butchering again for a while, right now we only have 2 that need to be butchered and I don't know when we'll get around to it. These chickens were Cornish Cross from Estes Hatchery, they are about 12 weeks old in this vid. I think they're supposed to be ready for butchering @ 8 weeks, but ours weren't either due to the breeder or our own lack of knowledge (this was our first batch EVER). Thanks for the comment, & when we process the above mentioned 2 we'll post a how-to.

  • @charbobjesus Thanks very much! That would be awesome! I am definetly going to use the rake method you used here. I have watched video after video on you tube and you just would not believe how many people just hold the head with their hand and almost cut off a thumb or worse! you are a very wise / smart !!!! Thanks again....

  • Free range chicken taste much better .

  • Thanks for doing it humanely :)

  • WHY was it freakin out after its head was cut off??? it cant feel n e thing n e more right??? its just nerves??? right????

  • @Allthatglitters4u Yes, the twitching and spasms are nerves that are still firing. The brain is no longer receiving and sending information, so the nerves have no idea what to do=spasms. Thanks for the comment!

  • @charbobjesus so your meaning to say once the head is cut off it cant feel pain at all? even if it's shivering? I thought a humane way is by first cutting the nerv from the neck side quickly isnt that it?

  • @ProudSikhJatt The brain is what process impulses from the nervous system, and since the brain is instantly disconnected from the rest of the body there are no signals/impulses going anywhere. Any nerves in the neck or elsewhere are severed, meaning that no pain is registered. The nerve impulses can't go anywhere because the brain is no longer receiving signals, which is what causes the muscles and nerves to spasm. Like when a person loses a finger and the finger keeps twitching.

  • i like the use of the rake, ensures good clean cut without chance of hitting a person. question..... was the blood collected to keep the mess down? or for sausage?

  • @westcoastSRT4

We used the bucket to keep the mess under control. Thanks for the comment!!!

  • If you eat meat, you have no room to talk down about this guy. At least he's not paying someone to mis-treat chickens their whole life, kill them with a massive machine that doesn't always do it the first time, then package it up in a nice neat little package at the supermarket so that you can buy your meat without having to stop and think about how it got there. If you want to see inhumane, look up slaughter house on Youtube. THAT is why I raise and kill my own food.

  • I have had chickens for about a year now and I am about to kill my first chicken (Well cockerel - I've hatched him and unfortunatly where I live it just isn't going to work and no one wanted him). I've heard all the rumours so its nice to know what to expect - Thank you

  • that was quick

  • lol this has nothing to do wit the video but nice mohawk.!

  • that was easy

  • The head chopping off is humane, not too fond of the rake neck, but still a clever way of holding it still I suppose.

  • @KrumpingKatie i think the point of that is to avoid accidentaly hitting the other guys hand if he held it there, sometimes peoples aim can be a little off.

  • very well done. i give that chop a 9.6

  • why was it still moveing isn't the head cut off

  • still don't understand why the chickens move with no brain... muscle spasm?

  • poor checken... poor dudes head >_>

    hair fail

  • Traffic cones (witches hats) upside down work well and you don't have hold the flapping chook s oyou can do heaps concurrently

  • Thanks for the humane method, Using the rake is a really good idea that I never thought of doing, I've seen people use nails but the rake really makes it easy and quick.

  • Great Job !!!

Finally I find some intelligent, humane humans who can quickly and efficiently dispatch a chicken.

Much better than so many other morons I see on youtube!

    Kudos to you !!

  • True. For all those people that watched this video and thought it was cruel, think about how they slaughter chickens now! Hell, i would rather eat a chicken like this then one filled with crap and hormones from a store. But I have no choice cuz my mom shops not me. lol.

  • That';s actually more humane than the slaughter houses

  • better halal

  • you peeps are a little more civilized. we just let 'em flop around on the grass until they're done.

  • :51 death

  • its life, we gotta eat

  • very well done. nice clean cut.

  • this is the first vid on youtube that I've seen anyone actually use a sharp knife to behead, gd job. quick painless and delicious

  • no chickens were harmed in the making of this film

  • @koolkat214 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @koolkat214

too funny! You are right though, that chicken never knew what happened and it was a very humane butchering. Sorry if you don't like it, but unless you are a vegan, this is a quick and humane way to have it done. I will never eat commercially raised eggs or chickens again once mine are of age.

  • its moving because of the nerves.

  • I dont think u could get more humane than that. If you eat chicken then you should be able to do this.

  • a better idea hang it up side down and cut its throat but a bucket bellow or something and wait a day or less

  • damn i wonder what that would feel like coz of that sound it made when its head came of

  • thats a undead chicken!!!!

  • Great post!! We bought straight run chicks and have to thin soon. The only other time I've done this was when I was 14 yrs old and it turned out poorly cause I didn't know what I was doing. This really helps! Thank you, tubedog

  • i get to do this tomarrow but we arent cuttin the heads off...we r just gonna cut their throats....it could be worse the way animals take chickens like a freakin late night snack so some of you have to grow up and stop freaking out at the fuckin food chain

  • the rake is a great idea. very helpful. thanks.

  • Dude, how can it be disgusting. Its sad, i know, but we human have to eat too. If chickens took over the world (rofl) dont you tihnk they would do the same to us? Its life.

  • it seems eseyer to do it when u hold down its head with the rake cuz i usually just hold it by its legs and cut its head off and it hard cuz its head moves so much thanks for the vid it helps

  • SNAP THE NECK

  • LOL puny chicken.

  • then dont comment or watch it

  • you should probably have cut lower to avoid the spasm

  • this is not an insane video, this is just a piece of living farm. Not cruelty in this vid. i think is important can be sure every animal we go eat it's slaughtered without cruelty!!!!!

    Respect for all animals!!!!

  • aww the little boy as gonna cry when he saw it = L

  • nice shot ur cool

  • Poor chicken! I would hate to be a animal!:( Geez.

  • the dude on the right is paying tribute to the chicken using his hair

  • damn still alive after head cut off and blood squeezed out of it

  • That was verry quick and humane. I've seen some that took like four or five whacks with an axe. try also to be a little more humane hanging the chicken upside down for a min or two. It makes them pass out.

  • its their chicken and at least they did it the right way...theyre just trying to teach others sumthing

  • That seems pretty humane, it's definitely a lot better than some nasty stuff I've seen/heard of.

  • DANGGGG OUCHHHH

  • Did it taste good?

  • You guys did it the really good humane way. Im pretty sure the chicken had a good life. it beats popeyes that's for sure.

  • Since you have nothing constructive or intelligent to contribute, your opinion will not be posted here. In the future, please refrain from using foul language, and do not comment unless you want to calmly and nicely present your views.

  • humain, have a rake throow ur neck. i stil find it wird how it flapt about with no head. can any 1 explain this to me?

  • There have been several people wondering the same thing. If you scroll through the first several comments, there are some very good explanations for why a chicken seems "alive" even after it's dead. Thanks so much for your comment!

  • nerves.

  • that kinda sucks but it show chicken are not very smart that they can live with out a brain

  • Yeah... if i had a choice(i don't), I would of done the same thing. Slaughterhouses are similar to HELL for the poor chickens... they have to endure a very...very...slow death! 5/5!

  • It clucked just when he cut its head off!

    so good!

  • THATS SOOO COOL

  • Really though, I think people need to learn more about farming and gardening and how to do things like this to survive this depression & learn how to do it their own self!!!!! Don't you think?

  • no dis but dude learn maybe some day u'll need to do that really dude it natural and even taste better not to mention healthier peace to all

  • have any of you seen roster still alive overnight after head been chopped? i did and i'm the one who chopped it. after that incident i use traditional method by quick swipe around the neck, cutting through the jugular veins.

  • why was it flapping around?? have you tried hypnotizing the chicken before killing it??

  • I really support the way you do it... I can't stand all the people bitching about animal rights and then they go to kfc and eat chickens who were kept in tiny cages their whole lives... At least your chickens have a pretty nice life able to run around and then you kill them within ten seconds... Very humane and I applaud you! So much more heart than the hateful people that eat chickens raised in tiny cages... Good job!

  • ur a vegetarian?

  • Animals were put on the earth for one reason to eat and to be eaten.. Good video

  • and make more of themselves so the cycle continues! ^^

  • This is the way all chickens should live and die, live happily on a farm and then killed in one second, instead of the factory farming bullshit.

  • i agree

  • Hey, I Incubated 7 chickens.

I wanted hens for eggs but got only 2 hens the rest are roosters. I have been wondering what do you do (on you farm) with all the roosters? PS very good idea with the rake!!

  • We either butcher or use them for breeding...Thanks for the comment!

  • i know a better way to kill it it without blood coming out..

  • Pretty cool video, to be honest i'm surprised it isn't LOADED with hateful comments from vegetarians :))

  • how is the chicken stll alive? poor kid hadto watch that :[

  • This is maybe the best humane way to kill it. Its moving because of the nerves reacting, but mainly the chicken is dead. I hope this answers your questions. And dont reply to this is negative comments LOL

  • OMG ITS STILL ALIVE!!

  • Its better than having a slow painful death though.

  • That is the best way. nice job!

  • i do have to say i never seen the rake method looks very effective thanks for showing im always thinking im going to hit my hand

  • I agree. The rake method was different.

  • good job man!!!! speedy death! this is important!

  • that poor chicken :( i bet he was mighty tasty :D

  • Can we not be abusive? My last post doesn't mention any!

  • The way that chicken was killed was VERY humane. It was quick and painless. It beats having to hold it upside down and hit it with a stick, or cut its throat, or strangling it to death.

  • My perspective might not go down well with most of you- but anything forced on anyone is not humane. Given a choice, the chicken would've escaped- if he knew what's going to follow.

By this logic, would we call the deaths of people on the Hiroshima ground zero, 'humane'? They were even more instantaneous!

  • A rather interesting but odd perspective. I think that's comparing apples with oranges. They are nothing like us and are not exactly very bright. Besides, people raise chickens for a reason and that's a fact of life. Chickens may not people, but I believe they do have right to die in the quickest most humane and painless way possible. Let's see you kill your dinner. I'll bet anything that under extreme circumstances of survival, I don't think you would have much of a choice.

  • I can identify with your stand. I agree hands down, that I'd kill my dinner if I had nothing else to eat. I quit meat in 9th grade, because I saved my meat-eating for 'extreme circumstances'.

I feel vegetarian options are far less violent. (Yes- they too are violent).

The merit of the apple-orange analogy is is doubt, because chickens and humans both have an 'intelligent' life, and are equally subject to pain-fear.

  • Hiroshima was a massacre, but if I had a choice I would LOVE to go instantaneously. It was the nuclear fallout and exposure to radiation for the survivors that made it even more terrible. However, in light of war and whatnot, I think it was preferable to chemical warfare, torture, starvation, etc. Not that I support what was done, not by any means, but for the sake of the comment this is my answer.

  • Chickens are interesting animals, but as far as intelligence goes I'm leaning more towards them NOT being very smart. They are ruled by instinct, and although they can "remember" certain things (like the whistle I use when I'm throwing them food) they don't go much further than that. I respect people who believe otherwise, or who don't want to eat animals, but that's not our stand. From what I've learned while raising chickens, they are a little "bird -brained" and they provide good meat/eggs.

  • why does it still move when its head is cut off

  • its an involuntary nervous response which often (but not always) happens when you break a chickens neck, it is by all accounts dead but its muscles are still spasming

  • Nerves and the muscles spasming. Happens when the spinal cord is severed.

  • how could you possible kill it any more humane than that? its death was instantaneous!

  • cool family outing

  • thats some good Chicken Nuggets

  • This is a humane method. Swiftly dispatched, no pain or torture involved.

  • nicely done.

  • Good veducational ideo, people should have an idea of how this process works.

  • whoa he clucked for the last time when you hit it with the machete

  • How are they still alive after their heads have cut off?

  • it5s just there nerves

  • Are they in pain after their heads have been cut off or not?

  • no soon as that blade hits theres nothing no pain

  • No, as soon as the head is severed there is no feeling, the dying movements are the nerves, its involuntary movement

  • They're not, that's just it's nerves discharging.

  • very well done and i like the idea of using the rake to hold it still.

  • Thank you for being very humane about this. Just looking at you I wouldn't have guessed that you were so responsible with a task such as this. Guess I won't judge people based on how they look from now on. Good job guys.
