I got myself the 2011 Giant Defy 3 changed everything,mavic aksium rims continental ultra tires,full 105 black with 12-27 cassette,had alot of carbon fiber parts from another defy i had,great ride and awesome for the mountains,thanks alot your build helped alot
I bought 105 group off of ebay for $500 some parts were new bike take off some where brand new. I installed everything except for bottom bracket and the only reason I had shop do it is because I wanted them to resurface the bottom bracket so it would last longer.
The way the bike is set up its the best way for hm. it also has alot of power through out the bike it self, though the way the cranks are he can take off with a good burst of speed. it is a lite of course the uphills its best suited for him. if he was going down hill or in a road race he would might wanna reconfigure the bike it self. over all not bad though.
nice bike dude

I'm impressed by your dedication. Nice bike! I'm wondering why you used Shimano 105 brakes instead of Ultegra brakes though...

@breakdance74 Price was the only reason.

You ended up spending more on the parts than you did on the bike :P

@ftpaddict
Nope, I bought most of the parts used from Ebay. It came very close though but the knowledge I learned from building it is worth it.

@ftpaddict
That's how you assemble a great bike. Great wheels cost more than your average bike.

@bluemystic7502 I know. My seatpost alone cost 80 quid.

@ftpaddict
A truly great bike off of a showroom floor would probably cost $5k. That seems crazy but even at $3k, they give you crappy wheels.

@bluemystic7502 Makes you have to weigh your priorities quite a lot. That's the price of a motorbike or a good second-hand car.
