@Umpeldink when I insert a DVD, ubuntu can't mount it. this is for both pirated and original DVD's. it only happens on movie and concert dvds, i have no trouble with data dvds/cds. when i reported this bug, it was confirmed by the ubuntu community. i haven't been able to mount video dvd's, and believe me i have tried almost every google and forum answer that i have found in 2 months of searching for an answer. root access won't do me any good either.
@enriquecaribe don't be a smart a** dude. i'm not the only one not able to mount the dvd's. it's a commong bug. some of us have it, some don't. i'm glad it works for you. however i managed to get the dvds working. i just hope that 10.04 will fix this problem.
You need to download Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras from synaptic. That will add support for all the proprietary stuff you are trying to play. It is always the first thing I download. In Synaptic go to Settings> Repositories> Other Software and check both boxes so it will show up in the search box.
