Pure art! I can't even place it on my Facebook next to other movies because I feel that would be a blasphemy. So this is the only movie on my Facebook profile. It's like watching the most beautiful paint in the world.
@sartanko There are no scenes where a large army fights another large army. But some of the main characters are meant to be legendary and do "encounter" the King's large army (who are freakin' crazy with their arrows man).
@MeMorYo9, the flying is suppose to be a myth and an ancient martial art technique in china where someone could make it body lighter and levitate itself, if that martial art every existed nobody knows, but in chinese wuxia martial art movies kung fu masters often shown to be able to fly.
@kmorley111, well you never know, it is so embeded in these films, that there is bound to be some truth in it. as it was very common for ancient chinese masters if they havent found anyone suitable to pass it on, to keep the crucial part of their art and trade for themselves and even take it with them into their graves. as of this day the shouling qigong technique for instance has proven that they can make their bodies inpentrable by knifes and swords, so nothing is impossible.
@zakuzen Yes, it is indeed plausible that they found a way to jump slightly higher or longer or whatever. That doesn't mean they could jump 40 feet....

im a big fan of most Jet-li movies. and i haven't watched this but i think itll be safe to say allready that this is one of the worse. every1 likes something different. and for me fung-fu movies where the invisible line is beeing used this much is not the shit :)
@Mbluum Yeah I'm not a big fan of the rope style of fighting either but Hero is an absolute exception and a work of art. You should definitely give it a chance.
@Mbluum The movie has a the pacing and storytelling common to mythology. As such actors are portraying far more then the mortal men around them. The setting itself makes full use ot the techniques and they blend in to the story.

Are there large army vs army battles in this? Or just those fly around duels?

@sartanko But those "fly around duels" are meant to be taken rather symbolically.

@MeMorYo9 in Marco Polo's record it says there were people that can "fly" using "chi" as part of their kungfu.

@MeMorYo9
"fly" or the Qing-kung (literal meaning: light kung-fu) is a very common element in wuxia genre.
In fact, Qing-kung is considered as one of the basic matial art skills in many Chinese fictional stories.

This is a wuxia movie, so there are lots of "flying" scenes.
Besides, the "flying" scenes adds artistic value to the film.
