From Saudi Arabia, I read about the rebellion today and I'm really impressed with the heroic sacrifice they made. It paid off at the end and you got your free Island. Oh well, most of it.
Good to see that the people of Athy also remember the men & women '98, who gave their lives that the 'Rights of Men' might hold sway. Sometimes, I think we need a new revolution, a new Republic anyway...Speed the Day"
This song commemorates the Irish Protestants from the Belfast area and Catholics in Wexford who rose up in rebellion against the Crown in 1798. Some of the Irish leaders had fought in the British forces in the USA and were much influenced by both American and French Revolutions. 40,000 people were killed in the risings which ended with Robert Emmet ( a Protestant ) who was the last person to be hung drawn and quartered in the UK & Ireland .

In Bodenstown churchyard flowers bloom for a brave man, whom none of our leaders of today are fit to look upon.
