  • Everybody on both sides of the gaming issue blow their opinions out of proportion. There are plenty of shitty old games just as there are plenty of good new games. Games have always been kinda pricy. Good story telling isn't some lost art, you're all just aware of all the shitty stuff you weren't aware of as a child. We all forget the mundane garbage of our youths, it's why "Things were better when I was a kid" is around. It's wasn't.

  • BrandUn DeShay sampled this for Hodgy Beats' song, "Memorex Cds"

  • @SoCalTactical You are TRIPPING out. I agree with the sentiment but if you think old games didn't lag or have bugs you're delusional.

  • @LeginNoslen Well, they did have bugs, but they could be used in a fun way, like mockball technique in Super Metroid.

  • is chrono trigger theme slow?

  • @chaosarmada truer words could never be said............

  • Comment removed

  • every chrono trigger track gives me the chills

  • you see my life hasn't been as easy as most... being depicted as a freak just for a tag like aspergers. but I see all that misunderstanding in reference to chrono trigger. miseries. good friends. battles for the best (in my case not monsters). groing smarter. depending on friends (in chrono trigger the combos). Understanding others miseries (earthbounds) (my best friends only bro dieying) but all the times I hear this song and I get ready to face life face to face like crono and lavos

  • @Snowfireblues but those times pass and I watch them as memories of green. I shall endure what comes, fight for what is best, and expect another great foe to overcome and become who I wish to be...

  • I wonder if this song has inspired the theme naming in Radiant Historia.

  • I have sooooo much nostalgia from this song :) love it

  • travel to the future to save the past

  • 2 people played final fantasy

  • When there was a limit in gaming graphics, your trumph card was a good story and music. That's what I miss the most. Now days everyone worries about realistic shit, when I play a game, I want to get lost in the world full of new and exciting things, not feel like I m playing real life thru a T.V.

  • @chaosarmada you're right...i hope that we can return to that time again.

  • @chaosarmada Even pokemon is starting to lose its nice music flavour, the last decent soundtrack i heard was in Diamond/Pearl, the new ones are kinda.... odd.

  • @TheJP3372 The song from pokemon white/black "Tower of Heaven" is a remix of Secret of the Forest. Of course, uncredited.

  • Good God. This is just a giant Tidal Wave of nostalgia crashing down on me.

  • Man i have this for a Emulator and i get so into it such a good story

  • gaming has been made possible for everyone, games in the older days however could glitch in the way of freezing or something. i still don't know much about this because i'm just 17 but if i look at gaming these days it is more being a competition then it is being fun. the games back then made you think about life and everything in it. the games today are all like AGRHRGA SHOOOT!!!! ARHGRA. done. if i play a game i want the game to tell me a story. like chrono trigger did for me.

  • funny, it's like a reminiscence version of Dream of the shore near another word (ironic because this is the original)

  • I remember baging my first babe. As I entered her for the first time, her little bro was playing this in the next room, and he just used to let the theme go on for ages while he messed around with items and such. the whole world seemed to float by. she smiled at me ^-^, I smiled back at her, and yet there were tears in both our eyes. we both pushed towards the climax, and then.....we laid back on top of the bed, both naked, just looking at each other.

with this song playing.....it was magical.

  • @kdreamland bro what the fuck? LOL

  • I remember blacking out my TV screen at night and turning the volume down low just to fall asleep to this song. Then I finally picked up the OST and all was right with the world. ^_^

  • Oh, games had bugs alright. Games had bugs…

    They were not, however, gamebreaking.

  • Interesting that Bladerunner has a track called "Memories of Green" as well, and the beginning piano riffs are similar. :D

  • and i just ran through the forest like crazy just to keep listening to this, throwed the SNES control away to keep listening to this... i wish i could sleep while listening to this.

  • @Tigreloaded That's why you go and slap "endless" in front of "youtube" on your address bar. Instant video loop!

  • @manlyman367 You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Internet Brofist Issued.

  • I miss the old days of gaming. Before there were such things as griefers or bugs in games. Yeah can you imagine that? Games weren't full of bugs. They didn't crash. They weren't expensive. They didn't require patches and didn't lag. They actually had good characters and story lines some even took *gasp* skill! I'm sickened as to how gaming has turned out these days.

  • @SoCalTactical Shame what happens when mass marketing becomes the all-consuming goal.

  • @SoCalTactical The Golden Age of gaming is gone, but videos have come a looong way. I think there are still some gems out there. I hear great things about Xenoblade.

  • @SoCalTactical To appeal to a wider audience, games must be addictive and skill-less.

  • @SoCalTactical I get what you're saying and I understand. But you have got to understand a couple things; one, I know the games are bugier than they should be, but bugs exist in the first place because the games are so fucking big. second, when you say requires skill, We're talking about the average american because that is where most videogames go. So mw3 for most Americans (not me) Is fucking challenging as shit.

  • @SoCalTactical I miss the days when people didn't complain every five minutes saying 'everything was better in the old days'. Games on the whole, are far more immersive and intense then games in the old day. but people are desenstized, so even the most beautfiully designed game with the greatest music ever gets old to them after 5 mins.

    but nostalgia NEVER gets old.

  • @kdreamland Mainly the shooters, Once in a while I find an RPG that is actually "Immersive"

  • @kdreamland

not true ... gaming goes through cycles ... ever hear of the video game crash of 1983? a flood of badly made ripoffs one after another basically killed off video gaming for a couple of years in the U.S. -- same thing happening now, look at how PS2 sells way better than PS3 after 10 years! People want story and experience not just wam bam over and over again.

  • @Jijenji well at this current moment in time, more PS3's are sold than PS2's, but I see your point

  • @SoCalTactical You forget something VERY important about old-school gaming.... OFFLINE MULTIPLAYER. Tough online multiplayer is indeed revolutionary and fun, it's become a killer economic strategy and it seems developers every day let offline co-op or versus die outside games that are not shooters...

  • @SoCalTactical Words of truth, back then the games had much more love in it. That's what i miss in all the mainstream nowadays.

  • @SoCalTactical Chrono Trigger cost $60 at retail. I would know because I bought it the week it came out. Not exactly cheap. Otherwise good comment.

  • @WSilva832 and I bought it for 19.99 paired with FF5 .. Fail sir.

  • @WSilva832

$60 for one of the best games of all time. of course, thats expensive

  • @Kanubai I think it lowered......PSN port came out a while ago for $10

  • @SoCalTactical ...*Sigh* Good days..

  • @SoCalTactical Err.. Games were more expensive back then

  • @7Tijntje But you got the COMPLETE game for your hard-earned cash.

Now, almost every game is half-finished, with an inevitable wave of DLC for characters, levels, areas, storylines and game modes. All of which, you have to pay extra for.

  • @7Tijntje Hmm? I got crono trigger for the PS1 so it was quite cheap actually. I remember PS1 games at $20 or less. Maybe that was after a year from release or something. But yeah games weren't bugged to hell and you got so many hours of gameplay it was amazing.

  • @SoCalTactical

Absolutely agree with you. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't snes games just as expensive if not more than games today. Like Chrono Trigger sold for $80 when it came out and regular snes games were $50 something, which would be nearing the $100 mark today.

  • @MatthewShadows69 Yeah I remember two games distinctly costing $70! Holy crap. One for SNES one for Sega

  • @SoCalTactical

Chrono Trigger was 79.99$ when it launched back in 1995.

  • @EnduringArts Good god. Thanks for the info. I got the game for the PS1 why I thought it was cheap

  • @SoCalTactical I agree with your point, except for the expensive part. Back in the day, over a decade ago, I was paying $50 for new NES games. I'd say with inflation $60 isn't too bad. Granted I don't buy many games at cost. With Steam, GoG, CAG, Amazon, Craig's List and other websites and services I'd have to say it's easier to get games cheap these days.

With that said games today suck, comparatively. Too many sequels, DRM, overpriced DLC, Uncompleted new games because of DLC/Patches, etc.

  • @Kuvter As I had posted below got crono trigger for cheap as it was on the ps1 heh. But yeah no kidding huh...

  • @SoCalTactical great point of view mate this game is EPPPPPPPPPPICCCCC huge legend those who never played it ..... well YA DAM SHOULD

  • @SoCalTactical did you just finish playing Skyrim or something haha

  • @JordanMeAwesome Yesterday yes what sorcery is this how did you know?

    Burn the witch!

  • @SoCalTactical the kind of games you talk about still exist, they just aren't the most popular anymore and have to struggle to survive.

  • @SoCalTactical

Did you seriously just say games didn't lag? I think you have forgotten how many games were riddled with slowdown when more that two enemies appeared on screen at the same time. I do agree with you though video games are starting to suck now.

  • @SoCalTactical

THIS SHOULD BE THE MOST THUMBED-UP COMMENT ON THE WHOLE INTERNET.

  • @AngelofKaos I hope not get enough spam in my inbox already lol.

  • @SoCalTactical

Sorry, but I can't find a way to agree with you more....It's just pure truth on every single word.

  • @SoCalTactical

this post hit me like a ton of bricks...the truth hurts. :(

  • lavos 2nd form is hidden in here

  • I love this song.

  • Today's games concentrates too much on graphics and "action". I would BET that if someone makes a new RPG with epic music, STORY, which harmonizes and create an atmosphere that makes you think you're part of that world is far more amazing than other "modern" games. They all forgot what makes "epic" games so amazing.

  • @Kirnale The images are actually a bit more important than the story and music most of the time. This game had some of the best graphics in history. Better then any xbox 360 games or ps3 BS. The 3D graphics they use just arent very nice and look like they have no soul. 2d games are what your brain actually likes to look at. The important thing is the position of the objects and the colors. btw i agree chrono trigger also had the best story and music, probably in the history of the world.

  • @AdamGoulett the way i see it 3d has not reached the "pinnacle" that 2d is at....if you ask me the difference between making a 2d or 3d game is like making a book or a movie, a book promotes imagination and creative thinking and a movie....well just shoves photons at you.

  • @DarkestXIII You know I never though about that. But yeah 2d games we're basically as good as they could have been for their time. You have a good point.

  • this game is ugly, I prefer to play in ... millennial fair

  • This game was a work of art, the music and graphics (for the time) were excellent, but I'd easily brush those off the table for the story. Well not the music, it stays.

  • I was going to play this on an emulator, but I think the game is going to be too awesome to do that. This is why I'm going on ebay to get an snes and this game :) (for a pretty big price- but it's worth it)

  • @lukefonfabre26 I don't think you'll regret it at all--the sound effects are better in the SNES original. (I've played both, and used to own the cartridge.)

  • @musicluvr1974 I'm glad I bought it, it's an awesome game with a great soundtrack.

  • @lukefonfabre26 are you kidding? with the save states you won't lose any word that is said and you can revert to fix a mistake or watch a scene again.

  • @emasterpiece15 That's true, but I'd rather have the feel of playing an snes lol

  • @lukefonfabre26 true, if you're happy that way then do it

  • I could imagine someone writing love letters frantically to dim candlelight as this song plays.

  • I stopped playing for a few minutes just to listen to this.

  • *looks at reactions* I can't decide whether or not this is classic or incredible.

  • @Chucknorrisaurrus It's Classincredible

  • @NickandSasuke Or Incrediblassic

  • Listening to this while high is as good as sex

  • see now games don't have that nostalgia likes some of these old school games did back in the 90's. i don't care how many millions of games have insanely new graphics or enhanced sound effects. all i need is my super nintendo, PSX, NES, and my Genesis. the memories flow through my mind and there's no stopping me from actually being there with crono and friends as they travel through the most beautiful of landscapes. never forget this song. recently bought this for $80. to me, it's worth millions!

  • @McScreamo I understand you. In another hand, this make me sad, cause i realised that more the game, it was the mood of the childhood/youngness, play with your brothers, your friends, on Christmas, and share dreamful moments...

I discovered CT very late, with an emulator, so this game isn't part of my childhood, but even so, I really feel how nostalgic and beautiful it is.

    So : a masterpiece.

  • @DamascusTer lol yeah. for me, it was a magical experience back in late 95. i was up at 6 in the morning. me and my brother were looking at the christmas presents. when we finally opened them i had gotten chrono trigger and breath of fire 2 whilst my brother received Super Mario All-stars and Secret of Evermore. Both of us played this one first as he loved seeing it when I was playing. Sometimes we even sat down to listen just to this song for a good 5-10 minutes. Those were the good days ;D

  • @DamascusTer Same here, dude. I beat this game 5-6 years ago on an emulator for the first time and I can still whistle those tunes and see the accompanying images before my eyes. One of my absolute favorite RPGs together with FFVI (which I also played on an emulator, haha). CT managed to be really memorable, which I can't say for a majority of games these days.

  • Hodgy Beats - Memorex CDs

  • OH MY GOD THIS THEME! (Head explodes from awesomeness)

  • Calming...very...calming...

  • If you have to think hard listening to this song, someone has too much stress in their life.

  • Beautiful, but it sort of scares me too...

  • @Kaledor104 its supose to lol

  • onl;y noobs and pathetic faggots would dislike this

they deserve nbnothing more than death

  • @greendagger87 Death for disliking a song? Do you even know what you are saying? Maybe some people can actually dislike this music. Just because a majority likes it, doesn't mean everyone does.

  • @syketo shut up i own this osv stop trolling

  • @syketo shut up i own this osv stop trolling

regardless this was played at my brothers funeral

  • @greendagger87 It's ironic that you say people who dislike this should die. Maybe your brother actually disliked it, so he died.

  • @greendagger87 u are a fool to think that speaking on the dead u would stoop that low

i see ignorance in your soul and u are worthless shit your won path of karma will consume your fate

  • @greendagger87 this was his favorite game actually he played this 100 times literally

if u so dislike this why waste the time to listen to it in the first place

  • @greendagger87 Hater's gotta hate. Whaddya gonna do?

  • @Catchfraser u are a hater u show up to a matserpice only to hate

  • @greendagger87 I'm actually not a hater, I have been playing the game for a while now. The plot, the characters, and the music have entranced me throughout my journey. In fact, I have taken the task to actually learn Secrets of the Forest on the piano, being the great song that it is. I merely created that comment to see if you would be naive enough to react to it. Good job, buddy! (Y)

  • @syketo u must be blind to hate something so incredible lets see u put some music ina game and get the title of the greatest r

  • @greendagger87 When did I ever say I disliked this at all? I said some people can dislike this music, but I never insinuated in any way that I did. Please don't be so abrasive, I don't have anything to prove to you. Hell, tons of people love Rebbecca Black, so if you dislike her music, do you deserve to die for it? Also, I find it rather insulting that you say only "Faggots" would dislike this, as that is just unintelligent gay bashing.

  • @greendagger87 regardless u are a noob pathetic vile knave

only one would go to a a song they hate and dislike it without logical intention

dont be mad because your were a mistake and your family never wanted u

  • is it the song or the times it brings me back to ????

  • used to walk to the southern area and just stay there and listen to this song

  • who the hell thumbs downed this???

  • @facug10 some one who did not like the song im guessing.

  • I loved this song when I was a kid in the 90s =] I am so fortunate to say that.

  • @Guitarisma Ditto.

  • This is one of those parts where I set the controller down and sit there with goosebumps for a while. I can't tell you how many great games I've saved an extra file so I could hear some great song whenever I wanted.

  • Ice Box lmao

  • I play this song as a lullaby to my baby every night.

She loves it as much as I do.

    =D

  • people think that video games, like this, make you wanna kill things, and yes i was pissed at the kitten in the sewers for getting me into a battle that got me killed, but this game is why i saved a kitten once! >.< i never thought kittens were really that cute till this game... but that damned sewer kitty can burn... or drown either one

  • Chrono Trigger has arguably the greatest videogame soundtrack ever produced.

  • @widdowson91

If by "greatest" you mean in terms of composition, that could be debated -- other Yasunori Mitsuda soundtracks are just as good (Chrono Cross, Xenogears). However, I would state that the Chrono Trigger soundtrack is the most _impressive_: It still blows my mind that such a great and varied OST was made for a system running on a 16-bit micro-controller, with a ROM size constraint of about 15 megabytes, and was small enough for the (rather large) game to fit on the rest of the ROM.

  • @stewartcbutler I'd disagree, I've played both of those games and many others and CT is still the only game soundtrack I'd actually want to own.

  • @JacobPaige Oh HELL no. There's millions of great themes out there from TRILLIONS of great games... all just waiting for the right ears to hear them and the right imagination to update them.

  • @cabbitsd sure there are a lot of great themes, but this is one of the few great soundtracks.

  • @widdowson91 You can find this comment on practically any video game ost video on youtube.

  • i can tell its hard to make a sequel, something that was already perfect,

  • used to just sit down and listen to this song when I played this game... ah.... so relaxing...

  • @shanethefox Same here :) This is my favorite track.

  • i played this game young and old age.

    wow..still epic.

  • glory days when i didnt have a care in the world.... need to get back to these days by doing something to make millions so i won't have a care in the world again

  • Nostalgic...

  • This music made me uneasy when I left the Truce area. >_>

  • miss you man u were the best...

  • Comment removed

  • no on no! You're missing the point completely. When you sit down and play these games, its not antisocial and lonesome. The party members aren't there to remind you of lacking friendships in your lives or disappointments. Its like opening an ancient book and reading a tale. If its life and adventure and companionship you seek, then get out there! Do anything, go camping, do medieval reenacting, just go out and see friends. The game is supposed to remind us how beautiful our world is

  • @ChocolateBear0217

You are so right, I agree with you to the bone, he along with Secret of Mana 1 and 2 are awesome...

  • @ChocolateBear0217

    WOW you have won, epically

  • @ChocolateBear0217 FLAWLESS VICTORY

  • @ChocolateBear0217: And that's the only remaining reason I play video games and will listen to no one who may call me lazy or geeky for enjoying a timeless and brilliant tale.

  • @ChocolateBear0217 best comment on youtube really...

  • @ChocolateBear0217 Very well said.

  • @ChocolateBear0217

But our world isn't beautiful, it is gray, it is dreary and boring, and we will never have the beauty that we dream about in games. We have destroyed the world to create these games that remind us of a world without society that destroys.

  • @Ericanious with life, comes beauty. Open those pearly eyes and let yourself unlearn..

  • @Ericanious oh here we go

  • @Ericanious Of course it's beautiful! You just have to look! Besides, with the way technology is advancing, we CAN have such a world!

  • @Keitaro2011

All I see is huge steel buildings and pollution getting worse and worse, buddy.

  • @Ericanious Why can't steel buildings be beautiful as well?

  • @Keitaro2011

Well because they do nothing but house more pollution and obstruct the natural world. Can you imagine this peaceful music amidst a poison chemical sky? A crowded street with beeping horns? Of course not, this music is beautifully natural and peaceful, steel buildings are commotion and chaos.

  • @Ericanious I guess beauty is subjective...

  • @Ericanious I think you're both kind of right. I think our world is both ugly and beautiful. I think crowded cities with gleaming skyscrapers are blemishes on the green world and they're just hives of ignorant and impatient people. But outside the cities, the world is still gorgeous. Mountains piercing the clouds, canyons, sapphire oceans, massive flocks of birds and herds of free horses, the smell of the calm Spring breeze at night while gazing at the infinite stars in the sky. Beautiful =)

  • @CerberusGX

I hope that lasts for even a few more decades before it's all gone.

  • @ChocolateBear0217

If you do medieval reenacting, you are GAY! I agree with the rest.

  • I really love this game a bunch. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to play it on a SNES, only an emulator, but seeing as my brother downloaded it when I was a kid, it's still a very fond game from my childhood, and I love it. <3

  • @YellowMagi

How is medieval reenactment homosexual in any way? So, someone likes history, and reenacting it, doesn't mean that they're any less of a person, or any less intelligent/untintelligent than anyone else. Nor does being homosexual. Saying someone is gay isn't a 'valid' insult.

  • @ChocolateBear0217 Well said...

  • Chrono Cross and Xenogears both show us how truly alone we are in the world.

These games make me sad, ultimately.

    The music doesn't help.

  • Man, I miss this game...

One of my favourites, next to Final Fantasy back then!

  • Anyone who is still living play this.

Anyone that wants to be loved play this game please

  • how does playing this game make you loved??? wtf/??

  • lmao i thought the exact same thing, i don't get it

  • @sistagirl488deleted lmao me2

  • I've been trying to find this song for MONTHS now.

Many MANY thanks for posting it!!

  • Feels like I'm on a long journey in the country......but Truce isn't that far away.
