Epic doesn't mean cool as much as the internet abuses the word. "Epic" refers to a type of majestic poetry of vast scope where a hero overcomes many challenges. So if you think it is a good story it might be epic, if not, it isn't. (It isn't majestic he isn't heroic.) Indirectly, "epic" does connect to quality. No one should think a 4 year olds sloppy crayon drawing of a dragon is epic. It might be cute and a feeble attempt worthy of encouragement but not a work of art to be hung in a museum.
@distinctvagueness dude, that is besides the point. Correct, but besides the point. Dragons, battles etc ARE epic. Epic does not however imply quality.
@OutswingingYorker If by epicness, you mean generic fantasy cliches and horrible storytelling, then yes. He's always taken the easy way out when it comes to potential, and frankly, I could have done with a lot less "exploring".
...wow. Not until now do I truly realize how much of the plot is (seemingly) copied from Star Wars and slapped into a high fantasy setting called Eragon. It doesn't really make me enjoy the story less, but it makes my respect for Poalini drop a good bit. Hopefully he's learned his lesson by now, and the 4th book will be very original and well written. Hopefully.
@OldMac89 Yeah hopefully. The 2nd and 3rd book weren't so similar, but rambling and boring. Although now that I think about it book 2 was Eragon going to be trained in magic for most of the book while a second tale involved a young couple in a revolution... I expect book 4 to be very average by my standards. I think he should be old enough to avoid as many cliches plot holes and other errors but I doubt the 4th book can suddenly be some masterpiece, especially weighed down by whats come so far.
Are you fucking kidding me? :D

@RivalNitestrike Possibly. The series is crap quality, I know. But it was epic.

Paolini's epicness made up in part for all these flaws, but the last book wasn't even epic. Fuck. So much potential fucking unexplored.
