My parents had 9 kids. Yes we are 9, but my parents never got any kind of welfare not food stamps nothing. We are a very happy family we are all grown now. The youngest is 25 we are 7 girls and 2 boys. I love having a big family but not everyone can have this many kids and make it. let me clear something up. i am not rich and i have definatly not had a privleged upbringing. that said, i am not talking about mentally disabled people. if they simply cannot suppport themselves then that is different. im talking about people with little to no money. children of parents who keep them out of school can get emancipated. less fortunate people take out loans for college or get good enough grades to get a scholorship. there are ways, you just have to find them.
No, actually, they can't get loans. They have bad credit ratings and no houses to mortgage or other collateral. And not all kids are mature and independent enough to emancipate themselves. You could say that these people "deserve" to be impoverished but I don't think I'd like to live in a society that says only the strongest deserve to survive.

My parents had 9 kids. Yes we are 9, but my parents never got any kind of welfare not food stamps nothing. We are a very happy family we are all grown now. The youngest is 25 we are 7 girls and 2 boys. I love having a big family but not everyone can have this many kids and make it. My parents had their own businesses and my older sisters helped my parents with the businesses. I am so blessed to have come from a big family but i personally would not have that many kids. Meh. Listen I agree it's a bad idea, and it sucks that we have to spend some of our tax money on borderline loonies like this. But this is extremely rare and the amount of pressure she puts on the economy is miniscule. It's absolutely nothing compared to the big issues like the financial crisis our banks and financial institutions have gotten us in to with a generous helping hand from our own government.

well, reading all those comments I only can say one thing:
Done is done. The kids are alive, and what is important now is that is the american system now that should be taking care of them, since they let it happen.. They should be recieving Love, not only from her mother but also from her country! Give that women a break man, she now needs all her strength to take care of her kids!

let her have as many children as she wants. but she has no right to take from our government. she chose 2 take the risk of iv & she needs 2 figure out how 2 pay this on her own. there r plenty of single mothers who dont get their hospital bills payed only because they only had a couple. i have an idea! lets all have 14 kids so we can get handouts from the government. its like costco for children. why have one if u have 2 pay the bills, when u can have 8 & pay nothing.

Fine but if you're not willing to set a limit then you have to say no one is allowed to to take government support, period. Which would be justifiable but if that's your plan make sure you get ready for crime rates and homelessness to skyrocket.
Also I think you're way overreacting, this woman isn't getting more or less money from the government than any other single mom. What makes you think she gets special treatment?

to be clear, i dont beleive in welfare. i dont think the government should give anyone money just because they made bad deciions. they can get a loan and then pay it off.
also, she is getting special treatment because the government will pick up her doctors bill that will run into the millions. they wount make her pay that. i dont see the government running off to pay every other bay bill. i would tolerate welfare if they didnt give anyone special treatment.

I can understand that point of view and in a perfect world I might even agree with you. The thing is there are a lot of people born in to situations that no amount of elbow grease is going to get them out of.
Without things like welfare a lot of families are going to go under. I'm not willing to sacrifice them (and in the process create more homelessness and crime) just because a few rare individuals like this screw up the curve.
I love capitalism just in moderation, as everything else.

anyone can do anything no matter what situation they are born into. it just take perseverance and willpower. homeless people let themselves fall into that situation and they wount get off their lazy butts and do something about it.

Really? What about people with mental problems that were never diagnosed? What about people born into poverty, who consequently can't afford an education and as such never get a chance to leave their impoverished neighborhoods? What about children with delinquent parents who keep them out of school? The list goes on and on and on. You think all those people should just 'suck it up'?
If you can't imagine a hopeless situation you must have had a very privileged upbringing.

let me clear something up. i am not rich and i have definatly not had a privleged upbringing. that said, i am not talking about mentally disabled people. if they simply cannot suppport themselves then that is different. im talking about people with little to no money. children of parents who keep them out of school can get emancipated. less fortunate people take out loans for college or get good enough grades to get a scholorship. there are ways, you just have to find them.

No, actually, they can't get loans. They have bad credit ratings and no houses to mortgage or other collateral. And not all kids are mature and independent enough to emancipate themselves. Besides those were just examples, the point is not everyone can break out of poverty on their own strength. You could say that these people "deserve" to be impoverished but I don't think I'd like to live in a society that says only the strongest deserve to survive.

Fine, so define how much money you need per kid? You can't just make up arbitrary rules like that in order to get a law passed you have to know how to fill in the details. And details tend to vary from person to person. Which is why we don't have laws like that.

I ask those of you who believe she was within the realm of her "freedom of choice" to have this many kids I say: THESE ARE HUMAN BEINGS- they are not teddy bears (one reporter: oooh but they're so CUTE!) they are people. She cannot possibly give them the love, attention, resources & time they all need. 3 of the 6 she already had have special needs- how can she possibly take care of 14? It's not the money that matters the most, it's the damaged lives that will ultimately be her horrific legacy.
