How does that work? the spindle is needing to hold onto the part hard enough to keep it from spinning but loose enough so it can feed out more?

@RYDERkN What you see is more of a bushing than a collet. The real collet is behind it inside the machine. That's what's grabbing it and pushing it forward. The one you see just provides transverse stiffness.
