  • the funniest, most beautiful thing i have ever seen.

  • What's this Al Jolson shit?

  • how can this be deemed bad taste

has anyone seen white chicks, two black actors, whitening it up and then portraying bimbos.

Whoopi Goldberg fantastic actress, The Associate one of her films, she whites it up as an old white guy.

Maybe people should view this video for what it is a tribute, a fun one at that.

  • Im sorry this is definately bad taste! Any white guy that results to darkening his skin in a mime or an act is definately making mockery of the black skin. Stop being daft and dont kid around with issues like skin darkening. You might be a fan of Makeba, but this act is an insult and i ask that you remove it. Skin darkening by a white man impersonating a black woman is not a joking matter

  • @TheMackyo7 Don't be so serious.

  • 50 dislikes doesn't know good music

  • Richtig geiles Lied :) früher hab ich aber immer : Verzieh dich duz dummer Sack du dummer Sack..." verstanden :D

  • I am not offended by this video and Pata Pata is my favourite evergreen since a century...

  • Love the song, just watched the documentary of mama makebas life. Wonderful film.

And how the man here covered her, it is somehow funny but also creative. I think she would have liked it, since he's doing it with enthousiasm and seems to like his role.

  • simplesmente deliciosa canção :)) Adoro Miriam Makeba !! Grande Mulher !!!

amazing song !!! the idolo Miriam Makeba :))))))))))))))

  • I loove this! I think this will be my future cure for any bad moods! You can see this man did this video in reverence to Miriam Makeba, in his own quirky fantastic way :) Most definitely no offence intended, and it is a wonderful song; makes one want to dance along

  • very happy song :D

  • Love this! Should be SA's national anthem.

  • I'm sure if a friend recorded this video for me, I would love him for the rest of my life!!!!!! LOL, So funny and full of meanings. Good for supporting the LGBT rights in Africa!!!!

  • When was it that she passed away?

  • @mikes230 She passed November 2008.

  • Arrrrw I  this song!!!!

    Pata pata

  • this guy dressed as a black with paint is an ofense to Blacks is an offense toMiriam ,

  • @Princeduard Get a life! Never seen the movie "White Chicks"? There are 2 black guys as two white chicks. Jeez, you're really pathetic. You call yourself prince. You're not a prince, so you are offending royal people.

  • @jurgen100 `In America , dressing up as Blacks with paint its considered offensive to African Amercicans~~now the movie ''White Chicks'' has a story its a Comedy and its the reverse-- ( Black dressed as Whites ) the offensive Act is when people paint themselves in black ,That is here in America...and how doyou knowI am not a Prince, and I am~~ ''offending royal people-- come on...you are anal and pathetic and don't know anything about Racism in America

  • @Princeduard When whites can paint themselves as blacks it is ok, but the other way around it's seen as offensive? How pathetic is that? Maybe Rick Perry can say some prayer that racism in America is going away. I am not a racist myselt, but I believe in the same treatment of people, no matter what color they have. If a person treats me well, I'll treat him/her well. Color is totaly irrelevant for me. So, lighten up!

  • Slurpeay, Kissesssss for U, I love it!!!

  • I think this is an endearing musical tribute to the people of South Africa, and even though Miriam was banned from her BORN LAND she never forgot where she came from. God blessed her with a wonderful VOICE and a humble and true spirit that lives on today in her songs. Thank you slurpeay for this wonderful tribute

I loved that a brief bio of Ms. Miriam Makeba was included - the makeup... not so good... but the presentation WONDERFUL!!!! Loved the video - thank you for sharing it!

  • this is the best video on whole youtube!!! xD congratulations !!!

    5/5

  • good quality

  • oh yeah and thanks for the history lesson....

  • ...dont they say that immitation is the highest form of flattery? I can see that you love and admire this woman who the world loves and admires also...I think she would hve smiled at this video...I liked your cloth....

  • I don't think is racial. I think is really nice video cuz, when you have a person like Miriam Makeba wich everybody or black people admires her, is good when somebody tries to imitates her cause that means that nobody is or was or going to be like her !!! She was absolutely talented and beatiful inside and outside !!! God bless her soul for ever !!!

  • Wow. This Just Brightens My Life!

  • I guess because I am from the South in the USA the black face will always garner a raised eye-brow from me as a big no no. However I'm going to guess that you aren't from America so the black face would be just like putting a feather in your hair to be an American Indian, or painting your face white to mimic a Japanese Geisha. So you get a pass on this one BUT wearing African garb is quite enough.

  • @sebrinaej Look past your own views, and think about how others see this. Yes, it's blackface, but the intention is not racist! Sometimes the view of racism just goes too far - I know some African-Americans who think the American flag is a racist symbol. So if EVERYTHING is racist, then NOTHING is racist. This video is just fine - no mean spiritedness here, just pure fun. Too bad you are so hung up on political correctness that you can't enjoy this song like the rest of us.

  • @sebrinaej Except that "putting a feather in your hair" or "painting your face white" are still means of reveling in stereotypes of a group. Neither of those are entirely unproblematic (or, really, at all unproblematic).

  • I'm sure that angels in heaven are having a great time since Ms. Makeba is there with them. We all miss her.

El video me parece un homenaje de lo más enternecedor. No entiendo como alguien puede calificar este trabajo de ofensivo.

    Ms. Makeba would love it!

  • I'm all for LGBT rights as a member of that community but as an African American I have to say the black face will just be forever off limits. I don't care how many years have passed there are some things that cannot be transformed and appropriated and black face is one of them. I think you could have channeled Makeba without the painted face and it would have been equally effective.

  • hilarious. too funny

  • I freakin loved this vid. Cant stop watching it. Awesome job!!!

  • I want to know how the hell you imposed urself on the Jungle Book movie..? Love it!!

  • LOVE IT!!!! creative, original...and you can tell you're a fan of Makeba!

  • You know, I enjoyed your version...You told the story of a great South African Singer, this is a very creative video, though I don't know how to take your black face...I'm going to take it you were a Miriam Makeba fan and just wanted to channel her, like a drag queen but different. You are a mess, but this is certainly one of the most unique remakes and as I said I did enjoy your rendition.

  • This was an international classic,a truly heart-felt song! Brings back memories of AM radio! MS MAKEBA will be sorely missed.:)

  • Bravo!!!!

  • hahahahaha. you're ridiculous... thumbs up

  • brilliant - well done on a great piece of entertainment :O)

  • what the hell man! lol

  • this song is in englis

  • This is definitely more than what I expected, very very funny...good job...nice surprise

  • Well at least the audio was good, and it did get a chuckle from me.

  • This is so much fun to watch. It's partially laughing an dpartially amazed that someone put so much effort in this. Regardless...well done.

ps: anyone who wants to turn this into a race thing needs to get a life. My man is just having fun.

  • Had a crappy day and needed to listen to Miriam........I now have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. What a great tribute to a GREAT LADY.

  • What a great video and definitely a great tribute to Miriam Makeba... Definitely performed with all the joy and happiness Miriam herself felt everytime she sang Pata Pata. Lloyd ... when you get time, I hope you will another video doing Mama Africa's Qongqothwane (The Click Song).

  • :DDD

  • If it helps you, I am Black and I do not find this offensive at all. Imitation is the sencerest from a flattery. You are paying homage to a great african woman. RIP Mariam, one day we will all join you.

  • I love Miriam it is good to see that you really do too :)

  • LOL

  • I see nothing wrong with this video - he is truly enjoying what he is doing. Just like going to the drag shows and seeing a black guy dressed like Cher or Streisand or a white guy being Diana Ross - if it makes you fell good then keep on doing it!

  • i agree its all good people can over sensitive....

  • ahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • hmm it's great ^^

  • i love this song :D

  • this song is the best its awesome

  • Nice intro about Mariam. Would have been nice to see more of her.

  • At first I wasn't sure how to take this video. But judging how joyful this guy seems, I don't think it was made out of disrespect. I think this guy was just really feeling the spirit of the song plus when you read his comments at the end it just solidifies it. I first heard this in 1982 when I was 7 years old, we danced to it in gym class for folk dance. It is such a great song that it remains with me today.

  • Thank you for the video! In Dominican Republic we also listened to this song.

  • Love this song.. heard it on the honda commercial

  • Haha, this is so cool! You look like you're really enjoying yourself making this video, great! And, hey guys this is a very funny video to a great tune, it's fun, it's entertainment and NOT politics!

  • Offended offended?? Hell no this was hilarious.I first heard this song on a episode of LAS VEGAS where Casey was dancing on the Roof. LOVE THIS SONG AND VIDEO.

  • No offence taken... It was hilarous!

  • WTF?

  • i was not offended by this video,or the gay man pretending to sing it."he looks like hes having fun"i am offended that the first time i ever heard miriam makeba was in a t.v. commercial"not your fault"

  • Nice . Real nice. o_o

  • Lloyd! I've watched several of your videos now and let me tell you - You MAKE MY DAY ... What a fun and talented (and slim, congratulations!) guy you are! Thanks for bringing all this joy to the internet!

  • This is such a great tribute to Miriam Makeba - Wonderful Happy Song - Wonderful Happy Entertainment. Thank you for honoring Mama Africa with this video! Please do one with The Click Song!

  • Nice...little of a shock at first but ur heart is in the right place.....u seem to have lots of joy n fun while singing...good 4 u

  • I was more taken aback by the fact that none of the plants or architecture was indigenous to Africa. That said, I was always taught that whites performing black face was an insult to the African and African American culture (although why you have to preface "American" with "African" is beyond me as we're all American). But for as long as I can remember, people of all races have been portraying other cultures. Bill Dana, Tracy Ullmann, James Whitmore, etc. No harm I guess.

  • Been black is to understand the struggle, the suffer and humiliation Africans have to endure.

Miriam Makeba job was sensitize the world about the apartheid regime and how to overcoming racism. Anyone that performing black face actual missed an important message. This video was probably not intended to be racist. Nevertheless poor taste.

  • Some Historic Facts:

Miriam Makeba was South African singer and activist, also known as "Mama Africa,".

She was a Legendary voice of the African continent and symbol of the fight against apartheid.

in 1960 her South African passport was revoked when she tried to return home for her mother's funeral.

  • In 1963, she testifying against apartheid before the United Nations,

her South African citizenship and her right to return to the country were revoked.

She has had nine passports, and was granted honorary citizenship of ten countries.

Nelson Mandela persuaded her to return to South Africa in 1990.

On 9 November 2008, she became ill while taking part in a concert organized to support writer Roberto Saviano.

  • White people struggle. Get humiliated and beaten up on a daily basis. Welcome to the age were we are all just people.

  • To imply that the White man's path is intertwined with the Black man's is a false notion, however as nations rise others will fall and soon your people will know the true meaning of suffering.

  • GREAT NOTE! we are a world full of people... not of all different races or colors. we are all human beings. the time is coming soon to where judgement will come upon those who are racist and hate... and yes black people can be racist too towards whites... BET anyone?

  • LMAO!!i found it funny and not racist at all. Im black and you can tell there was no mal intentions.Hilariuos!!

  • LMFAO!!!! HILAAAAAARIOUS!!!! I loved it, and I was way too busy giggling my ass off to notice any racism.. at least he didn't put on red lipstick and brown the tops of his hands, jeeze. Plus my dad's from Johannesburg and he approves, haha

  • Why is blackface considered racist? It is considered a form of art, just like ballet, mimes, etc. People, you need to chill

  • This is not racist at all, its just a funny video to one of the best songs ever. I think Miriam herself would have loved it!

  • I was shocked, then laughed. I read some things I did not know about Ms Makeba and I did not look at it as blackface, only some white girl making a funny video. People should lighten up and and I am a proud black woman.

  • U're good haha :]

  • Wow, I just wanted to listen to the song. But I got A LOT more than I asked for. lol That's cool.

  • it's not offensive at all, so chill

  • damn i feel fat and sassy after watching this

  • Probably racist...but still funny

  • anything truly funny is.

  • dude for 2 seconds I thought "my god cant believe someone is doign blackface in this day and age" But man, this is good and sort of humorouos. Its no different than dressing up like Elvis and swiveling your hips. You obviously respect the artist.

  • disturbing

  • i clicked this because i wanted to just listen to the song. but you really entertained me. thank you.

  • im doing the dance for my school this year!

  • however u look kinda cute in a dragon cute way..lol

    5 stars n e way..not offended

  • u look like a dragon

  • i thoroughly enjoyed the video. i'm glad your spirit shone through in it. a very free spirit.

  • This is great! I wasn't offended at all by this sweet tribute.

I especially love the late 60s style cartoons of the elephants and monkeys in the background. This video really captures the flavor of the terrific song and of that era.

  • this made my day! Ms. Makeba is such an amazing woman i think she would think this was funny too!

  • this was soo great: )

  • You know, I can say with all honesty that I can excuse their using this in a Honda Accord commercial. I always loved this song and it's so great to hear it again.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Hey I got the point and I also read books. No need to get offensive. I understood your passion for black people.

Your post is being seen by +8000 people and you will get +8000 different opinions. If you can't take it don't post it. It doesn't matter what you say, you can never win all votes and that's the freedom of opinion.

Thank you for this nice version of the song. Live happy and be cool.

  • @Bull6645 youre right, but he still has the right to set those people straight regarding the nature of the video. i mean he ISNT being a dick about it, they are.

  • This isn't anymore offensive than Chappelle impersonating a white man with a white face. Cmon its all in good fun.

  • This is pretty offensive.

  • @chairsarecool then, my friend, you are easily offended.

  • I'm not your friend, buddy.

  • i'm not your buddy, friend

  • I'm not your friend, guy.

  • guy.

  • what a wonderful song!

  • hilarious.
