  • @CNNFootage62 Well, They Still Use The Redbirds For Garbage Desposals only DX

  • Those subway cars are too clean, back in the 70s and 80s there would've been graffiti all over the walls and seats and some garbage on the floors, too. NYC subways back then were like the wild west, dangerous but also more free.

  • hahahjajhahahahahahahaha

  • Classic

  • Such Memories I Had. I Fucking Hated 2001 And 2009.

    2001 Reason: Because Of 9/11

2009 Reason: Because Of Michael Jackson And Billy Mays' Deaths.

    RIP Twin Towers 1990-2001

RIP Michael Jackson And Billy Mays 1958-2009

Dispise The Fact That It Is Gonna Be 2012 5 Weeks Later, But People Are Still Gonna Remember Those Happening In The Past. THE PAST IS THE PAST BUT WE STILL REMEMBER AND RESPECT!

  • Wow. You could smoke on the subway cars? I've heard about that...

  • @AJourneyOf1000Miles what did they say about it?

  • i was born in the wrong era.....

  • HORROR180 - You just put a historical treasure together. Thank you for the creative effort. You do NYC proud.

  • damn New York subways are filthy! How do people live like that

  • @PRHILL9696 the subway today is NOTHING like it used to be.

  • @PRHILL9696 Because They Are WAAAY Too Busy

  • The Excorcist was set in Washington DC, Not New York City...

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 Just Wait 'Till Excorcist 2. They Might Take Place In NYC

  • I would've done the same thing as Paul Kersey, but I would probably have used bear mace instead of a gun. Or maybe I'd wear razor-sharp baseball cleats and kick him in the face?

  • 2:36 Does real anonymous upholder exist ? Peoples who upset of crimes and have balls enough to do justice by their own.

  • The Devil's Choo-Choo train

  • Wicked! Taking of Pelham 123 is also a awesome movie re: NY subways.

  • Graffiti filled trains, checker taxis, prostitutes, pimps, junkies, thieves, artists, bums, heroin, punk, cbgb, disco, studio 54, cocaine, peep shows and more and more...good old days

  • I JUST LOVE THE WARRIORS.

  • yea dam2630 is right. Pelham and The French Connection. Too bad I was in 1987. I love watching movies from the 70s or hell even from the 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s but I love the 70s. Movies, music everything about the 70s I love.

  • Wow! Home sweet Home,

  • Nows thats the New York I remember!

  • Only missing the French Connection and Taking of Pelham 1 2 3....

  • Oh okay thanks for putting up the titles in the descriptions.

  • what is the name of the 2nd movie clip that popped up? And what is the name of the one where the enormous gorilla is attacking city subway tracks?

  • ok

  • HELL YA ! MY WORLD LIMELIGHT NYC. WEBSTER HALL DANCETERIA PLUS WE HAD TO FIGHT EVERY WEEKEND JUST TO GET HOME , TAHT PART I DONT MISS....... GREAT STUFF. 80'S RULED.

  • The Charles Bronson scene could have been made by Polanski, Tarkovski or any other "deep" movie director. The whole clip is very touching.

  • I always thought Charles Bronson was mexican, but he's actually latvian.

  • that first clip there was from the Exorcist, which takes place in Washington, DC, not New York.

  • I don't miss these days AT ALL.

  • @ejdf870 why not

  • @0ut0fdiz High crime, and blighted areas throughout the city.

  • @ejdf870 Oh, I ask because I always hear ppl talking about how they miss it, but to me it just looks plain scary.

  • @0ut0fdiz Yeah, people tend to remember the past with very selective rose-colored glasses. They conveniently filter out all the bad shit, and focus on the few good times they had during the era.

I can guarantee that during the 70's there were many people looking back to the "good ol' days" of the 50's. I guess the golden age is never the present age.

  • HAAHAHAHAHA!! RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG, the 'gangs' back then were hilarious, mimes, Michael Jackson's Beat It dancers, what the hell!

  • This also coming from a native new yorker, new york city is the best city ever and these were definitly the good old days. Thanks again for the upload

  • @noreaga12326 When did you live in NYC? How has it changed over the years? Do you think it's better, worse, the same?

  • @8bobthebuilder I've lived in NYC all my life. The difference between how NYC is now and how it used to be is that NYC back then, was more of an ADULT scenary. For example, Time Square used to be an adult playground. Now a days, Times Square and most of Manhattan is full of snobby college yuppies. As far as the subways, the videos pretty much explain it all. Now a days, the MTA is creating ugly ass computer trains. I prefer the trains u see in this video. They represented NYC in a big way.

  • @8bobthebuilder When u ask me if i think NYC is better or worse, that all depends. Personally, i liked NYC back then because it was rougher, more adult and of course, I missed the old skool, graffiti filled trains. NYC now a days is full of college, snotty yuppies and thanks to our old mayor (Rudi Gulliani) he turned this city into Walt Disney World and a tourest spot. If it was up to me, i would defitnitley make NYC to how it used to be in the 70s and 80s. Those were the days my friend!

  • the people from the warriors look small as fuck compared to those other gangs.if it was a real fight theyd get beat to death.

  • I remember when Kong did that in Astoria. Those were wild times!

  • Where's the French Connection?

  • i'm a cat-lick

  • Exorcist! Yeah! Deathwish! I loved that scene!

  • like bronson you always gotta have a piece on you just in case

  • The Warriors was the shit!!!! And so were the rest of the movies filmed in the subways of the BEST CITY in the World! New York for New Yorkers, baby!!!

  • the subway was such a mess back then! there was good graffiti, but mostly it was just crap!

today you cant switch subway cars that easy

  • No Pelham 1-2-3????

  • I love the music at the beginning ofThe Warriors

  • This is a primo example how the 2nd Amendment can save your life. 2nd Amendment infringement does nothing but get people killed. The Constitutional right to bear arms clearly states that it SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED but it is in fact infringed time and time again by the liberal cabal that run this country and insist on utopian ideas that have been proven time and time again to fail in that past., and as a result law abiding citizens are murdered everyday by scumbags.

  • Kong's all "ARRRGH! Hate it when I miss the last train!" Love how the cop thoughtfully abandons his bike so Jessica Lange & the guy can grab it.

And you definitely have to wonder if Bernard Goetz saw Death Wish. It is basically the same scenario, only 2 instead of 4 guys. WTH was that cop doing walking away from those 2 sketchy guys? He could see they were probably going to pull something.

Love Tony Manero having an epiphany in a crappy jacked up, spray-painted subway car.

  • @NYCBlonde Goetz definitely saw Death Wish. The link was made very early on after his arrest.

  • I remember how the movie Death Wish was suposed to be a sad commentary on City life, but we in Brooklyn at the time, felt that his viglanteism was heroism. It was a rough time to grow up, but glad I did, I wouldnt trade what we learned for anything.

  • rofl at the king kong part

  • Thanks ,

    For this nice compilation.

    Ruud Mulder

    Amsterdam

    Netherlands

  • What a GREAT theme for a montage. Thanks for putting this together.

BTW as a Brit I've travelled on the NY subway late at night and felt totally safe - more so than when in London...!

  • yeah but that was back then, when the nyc police had no jurisdiction in the subways and the transit police was very understaffed. Back then our city ws bankrupt and the federal government failed to bail us out. you were crazy if you travelled alone at night in the 70s or you were looking for trouble.

  • It's MUCH safer now than it was in the '70s/'80s. But I thought the Tube was much cleaner than our train system!

  • "The French Connection Car" R17 6609 is in the Transit Museum, and is used on fan trips.I also think the R42's from the same movie were saved from being scrapped.

  • Don't forget the "French Connection" this was the trendsetter for subway/elevated action films in NYC (The speeding "B" el train over New Utrecht Ave, Bklyn).

  • I love how the subway car explodes when Kong" drops it to the street.... like it was an oil tanker! Ah, Hollywood!

  • ahh 70s movies were the best. full of action, cool scenary music and best of all, the old subways, i miss these subway cars with a passion. can anyone tell me the name of the movie in the 1st scenary so i can watch the full version??

  • c'mon.........the exorcist guy!!!

  • horror180...good name if your in nyc i hope your bombing nigga!

  • This is a little similar to what happen to Bernhard Goetz. The guy who shot those three boys back in the 80's.

  • really though, and i hate heroes, but if your going to rob people and they blow you away.... isnt that kinda fair game?

  • ha good for him tho. for real, if you are going to rob people with weapons expect others have weapons. its common sense. sadly if he had killed those kids and bounced, he prob. never would have gotten caught. he was nice, only wounded them and i think hes still in jail. since the 80's damn!

someone killed my friend at a hotel party with knife and he was out in 7 years. (no joke) that guy's been in there since the 80's for NOT killing the people who robbed him.

  • @voidenter ....he got off with a small gun charge... i think he only did a few months and he got major protection when he was in jail...basically he was a hero and to convict him of anything more than a unregistered firearm would have caused a riot...

  • I think the "Goetz Car" was made into a work motor after that incident, but I'm not sure.

  • Ah. The Good Old Bad Old Days.

    Never again.

  • 855waldo you are so right never again !by the way i am a native nyrican!@7

  • @SuperBailey20 - I shudder to think of what the city was like 40 years ago. If it ever happens again, nuke the fucker!

  • @7855waldo yes the good old bad days someone that is a native nyrican!

  • @7855waldo Never again? why? was it that bad in new york in the 70s lol. No wonder bands were going around with names like "Suicide". Some say it's heading in that direction again tho, what do you think of that?

  • @7855waldo nothing like graffiti all over the trains. twas the best. who the hell wants a clean looking train? it s the subway in new york for cryin out loud

  • Right on! "The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3" WAS the ultimate '70s subway film! The NYCTA almost didn't allow UA to film the movie in the New York City Subway due to their fear of some nut job getting the idea from the movie to hijack a train in the system in real life. Sensible heads within the NYCTA eventually prevailed, albeit with the Authority charging UA $275,000 in what they dubbed "anti-hijacking" insurance, plus $75,000 for the rental of the four R-22 subway cars seen in the film.

  • 75,000$ aint that bad i think thats what i paid last year just to ride the subway.... its a wrap fuck nyc. you want that old ny dirt ya gotta go to philly now trust me ive been everywhere.

    .

  • last i checked that was based on a true story

so i guess they had a good reason to not want people to know that 3 or 4 people actually pulled that off. hahaha ya know they dont wanna look bad. big brother is in control and its for your "good and safety"

  • This was cool, but you forgot the ultimate 70's subway film: Taking of the Pelam 123

  • 0:28 to 3:22 this happen in real life, the guy that shot the two robbers turn him self in a week later and got only 6 months in jail.

  • and 2:33 is where the thief is in for a surprise!

  • 2:24 is where it heats up and

  • the frist video was mega ownage! the mustache guy owned those two gangsters

  • HaHa, Props on the King Kong part, (From around 3 mins-5:20ish) for having a go at subway Graffiti on the model subway cars..

  • Too bad they couldn't squeeze in a few seconds deoicting Bernard Goetz capping a few a those nutty-assed mofos.

  • I used to love New York 70s 80s early 90s

Now It is just like Toronto. Sterile.

  • so your saying you'd rather be murdered on the subway and not be safe? good job nimrod!

  • never said that fool

  • You Forgot Taking of Pelham 123 and the French connection

  • jajaja vaya pinta de duros...

  • So cool to see how the subway's were back then! THx for posting

  • look at scenary 0:59 and 1:02 when each dude shoves a newspaper in the dude's face. now a days they wouldnt be alive if they pulled something like that on a nyc subway. they'd be tossed off the train with the quickness.

  • How so? Do you mean there is more security on NYC subways now? Because if simply mean the people having papers shoved in their faces would throw them of the train themselves then that could just as likely have happened back then too--if not more likely. What do you mean?

  • what i mean is that we're living in a more dangerous world. as u can clearly see in this video, they had guns back then but getting shot wasnt a huge issue in the 70s. worse thing that could happen to u is that ur teeth get knocked out. now a days u get gun in ur brain just for looking at someone in a funny way. security also has someone to do with what im talking about but like i said, u cant get away with shoving a news paper in ppls faces now a days and not expect revenge to look for u later

  • I disagree; I think the idea that we're living in "a more dangerous world" is all just hype and empty rhetoric uttered by politicians or other interested parties who find it somehow expedient to do so. I think it is actually the opposite: crime has decreased per capita since the 70s, a time when crime was increasing. I can agree that there is more irrational behaviour exibited by people now, which could lead to stupid and unneccesary consequences like being shot.

  • @unfortunatebeam If crime is decreasing then why are there 2 million people in prison in the USA?..

In the 70's you didn't have one in 150 americans in prison. Drugs and drug dealing has changed America forever.

  • @mooneepondskid there are factors other than crime that have caused the inflation in incarceration rates. For one, the last 30 years have seen a tough against crime stance in both major political parties, and certain smaller crimes like petty robbery and selling/possession of small amts of weed were treated more harshly and lot of people were thrown in jail for minor crimes. During the 90s, when major crimes decreasing, you saw the biggest upspike of incarceration rates.

  • @mooneepondskid - Bloomberg’s surrounded himself w/ contemptible yes-men & he’s becoming his own worst enemy.

He got the $ end of it down perfectly (w/ the help of some timely luck).

But his failings as a human being – which he never seems to be concerned about, otherwise, he would have developed humility - now threaten to undo all of the good that he’s done.

So, yes, anything is possible, because you can’t buy competence.

  • btw, if getting shot wasn't a huge issue, then wouldn't that mean that it was a more dangerous and scarier time then...if no one made an issue out of it. What do you mean? Anyway, I think the farther back in history, the more violent, bloody, and dangerous it gets. We comparably live in peaceful times now, at least within the West, our little bubble. Its amazing what a mass media and a bureaucracy devoted to fear mongering can do to manipulate peoples perceptions of society.

  • right on! the media perpetuates the evils of society by coming up with any new angle they can just for profit.

  • dude u missed 1"the taking of Pelham 1,2,3"

  • WARRIORS!!! COME OUT TO PLAYAYYY!!!

  • @DavidfromOhio

Why did you do it? Why did you shot Cyrus?

  • Nothing from "French Connection" or "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3"? Big miss!

  • How stupid to you have to be to try to mug Charles Bronson? Now I know why they called it "Death Wish"!

  • Bigrene dont get upset because ur parents didnt give u attention as a child. it will be ok little boy

  • Much like you, faggot.

  • The name calling is uncalled for. Its not my fault ur parents molested u or abandoned you. Deal with it bro. So what if the R train has R32 cars on it as well. Everyone makes mistakes fag.

  • Shut the fuck up bitch. I will know more about the New York City Subway, than you will know in your whole entire lifetime, fuckface faggot. Suck a big one, dumbass motherfucker.

  • HAHA! What are you trying to say?

  • LOL! Retard. ::)

  • Ahh, shut up, you annoying bitch.

  • very little has changed in the subway system. the only thing different is what Bonita2079 said. The graffiti is gone. Don't 4get that the A,C, E and a few F lines still have R32s. The R32s have been around for a long time and are one of the oldest trains in the subway system. The reason its still around today is because they've kept it in good shape and its a good subway car.

  • There's a few R32's on the R stupid ass.

  • What about GODZILLA

  • For Pete's Sake, 1974?

  • this video is great, thanks for posting

  • some of these were shot on the PATH trains, no?

  • I still live in the Bronx today, was born and raised here. These trains you see in the films, are the same redbirds I used to ride from 6 years old all the way to 22 years old. Now the trains don't even look like that anymore. They are silver and graffiti-proof. Let's not forget how they are now COMPUTERIZED.

  • beautiful graffiti. I wish it were still the 70s

  • where's the graffiti?

  • wow its cool to see how da subway and trains were back den
