I wish there was some way to write a message to the creators so that I could express my affection for the series. If you watch the subtitled version of this set, they are interviewed and keep apologizing for the series being a failure. They shouldn't have ever felt that way since the series simply had a terrible time slot when first released (7 a.m. in the morning, I believe)?

Just got done watching the series. Its what Eureka Seven is based off of. This and robotech. Good series. Like all shows back in the day, they were subject to early cancellations so this once ended quickly. =(

Also, the sound design in older anime is incredible...its sad that they aren't using those sounds anymore in an attempt to sound more hollywood. Nothing was wrong with that they used--in fact it was more fun and visceral and supported the ambiance of the story, characters, action, etc.

The music in this series is outstanding...there's a certain quality and charm to anime made in the late 70's throughout the 80's that won't be replicated. This isn't to discredit the strong animators in Japan currently (Takeshi Koike, Yutaka Nakamura, to name a few) because the really good ones are really good. Its just few and few between these days. I hope anime returns to its old self to some degree. I find myself liking older series alot more these days.

In the Robotech series (Keynote: "IN the Robotech series") , this would be the third season. By it self [Mospeda], it's just a stand-alone series (if you didn't know, that is).

Something must be wrong with me if "cheesiness" isn't the first thing that pops into my mind when listen to this song (or similar) yet has a "WTF moment" when listening to "the Sausage song" from Lucky Star :U. Then again, I guess that's what happens if you linger around 70s/80s anime for too long.

Malaysian indie band Hujan made a cover of the opening song, with the same title Lonely Soldier Boy. The lyrics are translated from Japanese into Bahasa Malaysia (except the chorus which was preserved)

Hujan ambik lagu ni ubah lirik jadi BM. Cerita ni kat TV2 ke TV3 dulu. Sapa yang lahir dalam era 80an mesti ingat lagu nie. Cerita pun best. Diorang tak tiru diorang buat penghormatan untuk kartun nie.

Actually, ther was no "protoculture" in Mospeda...that was a concept that was created by Harmony Gold when they cobbled "Macross", "Southern Cross" and "Mospeda" together into one long story arc.
