  • i live in hoisington and i was actually away at college in Hays. I worked as a night guard at the Dorm I lived at and I remember this night. I will never forget it. I was on duty and freaking out because my family lives in great bend and Hosington. On the other hand i was trying to keep it cool because a couple girls who lived at my dorm were from greensburg and I was trying my best to comfort them and get any information i could on both places. It was a very stressful night.

  • like a good neighbor state farm is there with a basement!

  • @FlyingDogs22 with a tornado shelter!!!

  • 0:00-0:07 he's paralyzed

  • I used to live by Great Bend, hated that place

  • that was scary , i live in wichita btw

  • that nigt was go scary i live in ellinwood and like he was like great town little and we were in are bament clapping thanking god and then he was like there is a nother tornado in ellinwood we were like DAMIT hhaa great right

  • I remember watching this on their website, my Hubby's grandpa lived in Greensburg which was hit about 3/4 hours prior to this. I was on their website trying to get as much info about Greensburg as possible. It was a crazy night of storms for sure.

  • i was chasing the greensburg tornado.. that was the freakiest storm out of 2,000 ive chased before.. i was in greensburg just before it hit,, it was so big that all you saw in the camera lense was black.. i got out of the town 5 MINUTES before it hit..

  • That night was freaky.... i live in great bend... luckily the tornado kinda split in half as it came over the town...

  • I love events like this. I mean, I don't like people getting hurt and dying. Looks like the radar is not very good. I think they need to update there system.

  • They just updated their whole system. They even moved studio locations as well.

  • Stay safe this tornado season.

  • tornado season is coming soon

  • I live in Tecumseh, just east of Topeka. I remember watching KAKE out of Wichita the entire night. I was so concerned. This was actually the night right after Greensburg. The tornado they are speaking of here did indeed touchdown, but it skipped about 5 miles east of Great Bend, tore up farmland, and all kinds of crazy stuff. Very concerned, that night.

  • wibw livestream did really good tracking that tornado outbreak

  • KAKE-TV (ABC) Wichita had about a 24 hour wall-to-wall coverage period that evening through the next day. It was crazy.

  • Merril Teller trumps Dave Freeman anyday.

  • amen to that!

  • i live in ellinwood....i hated that day

  • omg...i watched that when the storm was going into, you guys had a horrible tornado week, hope you weren't hurt

  • Wichita is very fortunate to have men like Dave Freeman and Merril Teller. They have saved many lives because of their professionalism and accuracy.

I saw this when I moved to Iowa 8 years ago. We had a tornado warning. The local weatherman kept reporting the tornado in the same location for 45 minutes! I knew if this was Merril, I would know where the tornado was minute by minute and I would be able to watch the hook echo. Iowa TV stations are easily 5-10 years behind Kansas in technology.

  • I remember wacthing this in my tornado shelter. It is true that there information was wrong, but I think they need to do a litte better on the tornado shelter.

  • Too bad all thier info wasn't correct. My Grandparents house was destroyed by a tornado. They live in Ellinwood

  • Scary stuff, this is why I'm a Winter fanatic.

  • me too

  • Weather Guys have no soul!

  • God Bless You Guys.....

  • Im glad it didn't hit Wichita

  • yeah, dave freeman is the best meteorologist by far. he gives us the best information and cares about his viewers.

  • Wow, that weather guy was doing a great job. I do wish weather people were allowed to be more forceful with their recommendations. They should be able to say "It's my opinion that you need to get into your shelters NOW!"

  • "They should be able to say "It's my opinion that you need to get into your shelters NOW!""

They do this all the time, including in the video shown here.

  • "They do this all the time, including in the video shown here."

"I'd like to suggest" isn't quite "GO NOW!". It isn't weather people's fault that they have to speak cautiously. If they give strong urgent warnings and nothing happens, then the public won't take them seriously when there's a real emergency. That could cost even more lives. It's a real problem. Perhaps the solution is emergency preparedness education.

I do think this weather guy is amazingly excellent and probably saved lives.

  • "If they give strong urgent warnings and nothing happens, then the public won't take them seriously when there's a real emergency."

Agreed, at some point it's the same as "crying wolf". This guy is pretty good, I live in Kansas and am familiar with this station. One of the other Wichita affiliates handles the situations a little differently, their chief meteorologist will tell viewers they need to take "tornado precautions", which is to seek appropriate shelter.
