The two single kayaks were a Sea Leopard, withtwo sails, the other a North sea tourer whith a single sail. Both these kayaks are relatively old models. The Sea Leopard has been redeveloped but is essentially the same while the North sea Tourer has been replaced by a Tasmanian Greenlander kayak and a Canadian built Seaward Chinook. You can see these kayaks on more recent video clips. The North Sea Tourer was 16.5 ft x 22" the Sea Leopard longer and about the same width. Cost A$3000.
Can you tell me the model of your sea kayak? More specifically I am wondering about the length and width and beam size of your kayak......I wish I can go on trips with you guys, that looks like too much fun........ How much money do you think I need for the kayak and sail kit? Thanks
looks fantastic. thinking about doing the same to mine. putting a windsurfing sail onto my SOT. probably going to need a leeboard, outriggers and big rudder. you think a sail that big would work alright on a 10 footer?
This is definitly not my idea of a "pleasant day kayaking!... I've had 20 years of kayaking and it was always most pleasurable to me. Looking at this video, it was an "experiment with death!"...there certainly was that probablity. I'm sure that these chaps would know how to handle themselves if they had "capsized", but again, it is not my idea of fun on the water.
Excellent clip, that looks like a ton of fun, makes me want to get out in the shed and finish my kayak i'm building. I'm definately going to make a provision for a mast now after seeing this. I'm a bit hesitant about venturing too far off shore since i had a scary half hour being pursued and checked out by a white pointer of Adelaide for about half an hour,(felt like 3hrs) it was about 14 to 16 ft,it came up first from behind and eyeballed me from 1ft and nudged and followed me all the way in
18km/hr clocked by a GPS is the fastest, mind you this was with wave assistance. Its all good fun and the sails get bigger and bigger. Wec are off to Flinders again in Feb with a HD video camera, hope the wind is blowing.

Great video! Did you have to make the mount for the mast or does the kayak comes with a hole on the deck?

What a great video -- what was the music you used. I almost recognize it but cannot put my finger on it.

The music is from Mendelssohn, 'The Hebrides' Overture.
