Removing the clitoris does not impede reproduction or all sex as would removing the penis. The clitoris plays no role in reproduction. The comparison can not be exact. Mutilated, not neutered, is the word.

Circumcision is also a leading cause of premature ejaculation, and it does indeed cause males to lose quite a bit of sensitivity, because they lose hundreds of thousands of nerves. Comparing piercings to infant circumcision is a false analogy. Piercing ones ears or nose does not permanently remove skin tissue and damage thousands of nerves. Also, if one chooses, they can let the piercing close up naturall or have it surgicaly closed up. Once the foreskin is gone, there is no turning back.

FGM is wrong. It can and does cause serious health issues for a women and is extraordinaly painful. I do not believe that male circumcision has anything in anyway over fgm. I have known men who are circumcised and none of them have any problems having sex or finding it pleasurable in anyway. However I do think that male circumcision is a very painful thing for little boys and for that reason I will not have it done to my sons If I have one

A woman having her clitoris and labia removed is much more like a man having his entire penis removed. Now I know that occasionally there are botched circumcisions for boys, but the way they do it for girls is much more barbaric - you just have to look at the footage.
I have seen a picture of an adult woman who had FGM. She looked like she had been neutered.

@purplevolcano Do some more research. There are four major types of FGM, one of which involves removing only the clitoral hood. While I am against all forced circumcision, I don't see why removing a male penile foreskin is legal in the US while removing the clitoral hood is illegal.
Removing the clitoris does not impede reproduction or all sex as would removing the penis. The clitoris plays no role in reproduction. The comparison can not be exact. Mutilated, not neutered, is the word.

Circumcision is also a leading cause of premature ejaculation, and it does indeed cause males to lose quite a bit of sensitivity, because they lose hundreds of thousands of nerves. It's actually very easy to wash an uncircumcised penis; just pull it back and cleanse gently. In essence, both are forced (in most cases, anyway) and both are wrong. One shouldn't glorify certain cases.

Female clitoral hood amputation would accomplish exactly the same thing: cleaner female genitalia by removing the smegma-collecting skin. Since Western women have never had their clitoral hood crushed by a screw clamp as infants, there is very little data available on how this procedure would affect women.

Appearance is the #1 reason American women prefer men with cut genitals. In the same of equality, ban both male and female circumcision or do them both.

There are no medical reasons for male or female circumcision, and no US or European medical association recommends genital cutting. Check the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for their statement.

Comparing piercings to infant circumcision is a false analogy. Piercing ones ears or nose does not permanently remove skin tissue and damage thousands of nerves. Also, if one chooses, they can let the piercing close up naturall or have it surgicaly closed up. Once the foreskin is gone, there is no turning back.

If female circumcision were performed in US hospitals with topical anethetic that lasts 1-2 hours, would that make FGM more acceptible? I don't see how amputation of the clitoral hood is any worse than male circumcision.

No. Some female circumcision removes the clitoral hood and labia minora. This would make female circumcision equivalent to the 600,000 male circumcisions performed in the US every year (33% circ rate, 2 million male births).

Don't get me wrong, I'm against it, but I'm not sure there's anything anyone in this country can do about it. The only real hope is for people in the countries where it is practiced, to learn and abandon the practice. Even the UN would be powerless because they can't go to a sovereign nation and demand they create laws.

I've been to pages about MGM too, however I think that the effort of feminists to isolate the FGM as separate is actively hurting the MGM opponents by helping people to think of circumcision on males as culturally acceptable but on females as unacceptable.

She made that decision based on a medical issue he had at birth and he has had no issues with it, it doesn't hurt, cause infection, it isn't fatal and it was done safely and hygenically. I dont advocate it at all I just don't believe its as important an issue as FGM depending on the country also. They aren't on parr no matter how you look at it. I applaud u tho 4 being passionate about it.
