I really like this movie. I like Warren Oates portrayal of Dillinger and he sort of looks like him. Ben Johnson is also good as Melvin H. Purvis, G-Man.
I love how time rewrites history. These people were murdering bank robbers. They were not getting a hundred bucks a pop when robbing these banks. They robbed banks because they lived a life of fucking crime. Do Not get me wrong, I love the romantic versions of these stories but they are just that. Romanticised versions of really bad stories.
I don't care how inaccurate this movie is. It's a true gem and put's that piece of garbage, "Pubic Enemies" to shame. Charles Arthur Floyd's death scene is pure art and my favorite in cinema.
I think that Hoover should have worried about the depression and the starving and out of work populace. Dillinger and his gang robbed banks because they needed money, and so did others.
The scene outside the Biograph is ridiculous, showing Dliinger and the other men in suits and overcoats. It was hotter than blazes that night, which is why Dillinger took the two women to an air conditioned theater. He wore a white sportshirt, slacks, and a white straw hat. He was shot three times, none of which was by Purvis.
I love the scene at the gas station: "I got his gumball machine."
at the beginig the teller is couting the money ,i belive,and then the ladfy says not to worry about like that and then says that she will take her money elswere.can someone explain please
I agree even though this movie had its problems. Dillinger never struck Billie Frechette, His father was not an ignorant hillbilly (Dillinger came from the middle class) and so on. Never the less this movie tells Dillinger's story, inaccuracies not with standing, better than "Public Enemies" did.
kmaniqc- True. We all wish he HAD. Or hadn't played Dillinger at all, if that was what he was trying to do. It was a fan film, and that's just fine for Depp & his fans. I don't envy them that.
But it was not a story of the times or Johnnie Dillinger.
Oh Dude. thanks for posting this movie. I saw this as a kid in 1986 and it was 1 of my favorite movies of all time. warren oates was really underrated as an actor. you got to post the rest of this movie. this was 1 of the best performances in a gangster flick ever. younger generations need to see a classic actor like this. Thanks
@ctcasey I agree, Warren Otes really looks exactly like Dillinger. He is a good actor, but he hasn't been in the spotlight much back then. Johnny Depp was also a good one too, don't get me wrong.
My favourite movie ever

''Why are you smiling at me like that for young Man!?I-i don't believe i know you?
''No maam,but when ever i see money i smile that way....''
''You've got a nice smile too miss!''
''I'd like to withdraw my entire account.''
''Your ENTIRE account?
''Yes maam the WHOLE thing....!''
''And your name?''
''John.....JOHN DILLINGER.....THIS IS A ROBBERY!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
The BEST version of Dillingers story and alot more truthful than ''PUBLIC ENEMIES''

This was before FDIC; so if the bank was robbed, did you lose all of your money?
shanghaibenny2 1 year ago
@shanghaibenny2
Yes and there was virtually no way to get your money back
jweathers131 1 year ago
@jweathers131
That is one reason people did not trust banks. Now, they do not trust them for a different reason.
shanghaibenny2 1 year ago
@shanghaibenny2
Oh yes how very true that is.
jweathers131 1 year ago
@jweathers131
So, you do not need a gun to rob a bank.
shanghaibenny2 1 year ago
@shanghaibenny2
Actually no. Most Banks tell thier employees just to give the money over.
It was and still is cheaper just to recover the stolen money than pay for hospital bill and insurance.

@shanghaibenny2
Actually you didn't.
Most banks told thier employees just to hand the money over. It is cheaper than paying hospital bills
and insurance.

Melvin Purvis was 30 when Dillinger was killed. Ben Johnson was 55 when this movie was made. Stupid mistake.

6:19 is a great scene with Warren Oates,Geoffrey Lewis,John P.Ryan and a flustered Harry Dean Stanton. Four of the greatest character actors ever.
