i'll answer this.. if u short the infared filter u will fuck up your eyes because of the extra invisible radiation being let out. yes its considerably more powerful and will prob burn but it aint worth loosing ur eyes since its like 60 percent more dangerous

I have a red laser diode from a dvd burner. I connected it to 3 AA batteries @ 4V without using resistors. The voltage on the laser diode drops to 2,4V with 110mA of current, so it should be running at 265mW. But I only get results similar to a normal 5mW laser pointer, I cant burn matches and when I point it at my hand it doesnt get hot. Shall I use a higher voltage? The focus is pretty good, but not perfect.

Ok, focus it so it is as small as it gets and try that :). Find the Take piece of plastic, (black so you can see the dot), and focus it from 6 inches until it is as small as possible (should have to twist the focusing back and forth to reach it). once you get that, try to burn from 6 inches, it will FRY things.

Just to make sure, do NOT use one from a CD player/burner. ONLY DVD. CD players use infared light instead of visible light, and if you use them in a lazer pointer you could accidently blind yourself since you can't see the beam.

Yep. If they are older burners, they may have diodes between 25 mW and if closer to a newer one maybe 200 mW. Rip them apart if you want!

I am telling you, click "more" next to my video and it will save you time. You won't have to extract a diode from a dvd burner. He will send you a 200 mW diode that will be cheaper than a dvd burner, prolly $10 cheaper and save you lots of time.

Not mine. You can also add a resistor if you'd like, but that is not necesarry for my way. From my knowledge IR filters are used with mostly green lasers.

Click "more" next to my video for the case/dvd burner. You can hook up the diode by connecting the wires to 2 of the legs. Off the top of my head I do not remember which 2 legs.

Ah, you caught me. I am not sure if dvd burner diodes are 650nm or 532 nm, although it really wouldn't matter because they are both visible. If you find a dvd burner, send the link via message to me and I will see if it's a good one. Try NewEgg to get a really cheap one for like $30. The hardest part is getting the diode out of the dvd burner so make sure you have some good tools!

Yep :) it could do all of it. To get the 10 mW diode out of the module I had to CAREFULLY hammer it and use a screw driver. Use whatever you wish but be careful. This part is very easy compared to getting the diode out of the dvd drive. ;)

I've heard of people trying to do it, but I heard that the diode is almost impossible to remove without busting the entire casing. If you have one laying around I suppose you could try it. Also, there would be a very low ammount of power supplied (those little batteries are weak).
